It has a range of play equipment for children and benchs for accompanying adults to sit and watch/chat. There's two sets of swings, one for younger children and one for older children. A big boat provides climbing opportunities and a slide and fireman's pole as well as imaginative play being the captain of the boat. There's an assortment of climbing equipment for older children as well as a baby giraffe slide, little swing and playhouse for very little ones on a softer, squidgy surface. The park is well used but the equipment is frequently covered with grafitti, a complete shame. It occasionally suffers from vandalism and then the repairs can take a while, leaving the equipment cordoned off. It's a nice place to take children but could be better maintained.

Tucked away from the city centre, Jesmond Dene is a short bus ride away and offers a slice of nature that is rare to come across in such a big city. It is well worth the travel as this little hidden gem provides the peace and tranquility you would only expect to get in the countryside some hours away. Definitely makes Newcastle a worthwhile place to be!

I've always loved this park,spent many a happy afternoon with my children there.Just opposite the…read moreFreeman hospital it's easily found.I love the duck pond as do generations of children from over the years and there is also the play area for the children as well.It has the tennis courts and a little cafe which is open seasonally.I think that there is no other little park around as pleasant as this one on a balmy summers afternoon.It's just lovely.

Heaton park is a lovely green space that extends towards Jesmond so you can walk through to the Dene. It offers a children's play area,several different walking paths or routes and even has a restaurant on its pavilion called Sambucas. Surprisingly tranquil given its proximity to a main road and a nice escape from the hustle of Heaton or Chillingham Road. Sadly they haven't looked after the bowling green which is now overgrown and patchy. Even if not restored this space is central to the park and could do with a bit of love.
