I'm quite particular about getting a haircut, and having to find a new hairdresser in Vancouver was no easy task. I've tried quite a few places but was never left satisfied until I found Eric working here at Blue Hair Design Studio. Every time I come I usually make an appointment although it's usually never that busy, which means I hardly ever have to wait! Eric is a good stylist and I would recommend him to Asian males who would like to get their haircut. He's swift and quick with the scissors. I usually show him a picture but now that I frequently go here I think he's used to my "regular" cut. For a haircut and wash it's $25 bucks not including the tip, which I would say for Vancouver is a pretty good price. I've been to other places which charge over $40 but don't have the same results. Overall, great place for the price. I highly recommend Eric for males who want a good Asian haircut at an affordable price. read more

STYLIST: JENNY PRICE: 9.5/10 Very decent! $25 (without tip) for a Cut/Shampoo/Style. The amount of hair lingering on your clothing upon completion is minimal & you won't be scratching around your collar all night; in fact, Jenny will make sure you're well styled for the rest of the day. SKILL: 10/10!!!! Jenny is a veteran stylist & owns several scissors that cost $1000+ & gets them sharpened regularly while she's at the salon. My GF asked her to a] Cut her hair short b] Make it look long c] Make her hair light; this seems like a head-scratcher request but Jenny somehow pulled it off. TIME: 8/10! Jenny takes quite a bit of time. She'll generally shampoo your hair first to make sure that your hair is evened out & much easier to gauge how your hair naturally flows; this way, she can ensure that the length of your hair is completely even & symmetrical NOT just when it's styled to your liking. EXTRA: { A few of you have complained about someone at BLUE "pushing" them to have their hair washed. I've been coming to this place for several years now & I can say in their defence that they're not ones to push their customers just for a mere few dollars. } If anything, I consider Jenny's efforts well worth my time & payment for her professional service. Jenny & I had a great conversation about that little "Hurricane" on the top of your head that indicates which way your hair naturally flows and how to manipulate style with extra volume by going against the current. How to properly use shampoo & conditioner as well as how often to wash your hair. - The stylist was not really good at English. - She first tried to cut my hair while I was wearing my glasses, and I tried to take them off, then she interrupted me and said 'no, no, size, size' ('sides'?), which was the exchange that I and she did two or three times, and I told her I didn't know why and take them off anyway. Now I guess she wanted me to check if the length of my hair she cut was good, but nobody wants to get their hair cut with their glasses on. - She asked me if I'd like short sides, then I told her 'not short', but she cut them so shorter than I thought. - She corrected my head and shoulder positions a lot of times. Even though my shoulder was sticking on the backrest, she pressed them back many times. - She is bad at shampooing; her finger strength was so weak that I felt like she was just stroking my head, her shower splashed a lot over my body. read more

A good hairstylist is hard to find, especially when you have Asian hair and you want it nice and short. Shorter hair on an Asian head is difficult to cut because any error or stray hair will be immediately noticeable as Asian hair is thicker and tends to stand straight. One time I went to a non-Asian hairstylist when I had long hair (grew it out over 6 months) and ended up coming out with a short sport cut because the person didn't understand the characteristics of Asian hair. With that said, I have had my hair cut by three different stylists here with no issues. I usually go with Eric and he's been able to give me awesome hair cuts. The first few times I got my hair cut here was back in 2010 and been getting my hair cut here again since 2016 as I moved back into the area. I definitely have peace of mind when I get my hair cut here and this is when I have high standards about how my hair should be cut. I've been with various hair stylists in Downtown Vancouver, Burnaby, and Coquitlam, but none of them have been good as this place. The price for a haircut is $25. It includes a wash afterwards, which is nice so you're not itchy for the rest of the day. I definitely recommend! read more

A great hair salon, clean and chic. The staff are all very friendly and I always ask for Kayla. She does makeup hair cuts and styles. Really attentive and skilled work. Got my hair done for prom here and also a cut, a bit on the expensive side but well worth the experience. Will be coming back in the future for sure ! read more

Disclaimer: I have no idea who cut my hair. They never gave me his name. Maybe there is some magical other person I never met who works there. But right now, they are only an urban legend. First off, I gave them four pictures. I want spiky hair. Instead I got one of the most generic Korean bowl shaped haircuts ever and asked if I put my hair down to the left or right. The answer is neither -- because I like my hair up. I never got any sort of head massage like I get at every other Asian styling place. Did not seem to understand the instructions of wanting the front long so I can spike it as it is now relatively short like the rest of my hair. In fact, I don't think he even knows how to spiky hair because when he "showed me how to style it" he blow dried the hair down and then kind of moused it up a little so it's not completely flat. When I stared at him as if expecting the magic trick to be done he told me I showed him some pictures but he thought I would look better this way instead. Thanks, but no. On the other hand, if you want a super generic Korean mushroom type haircut in about 30 minutes, this is the place to go. read more

My wife went here for perm and cut. She didn't look much different when she came out. In fact after 4 days she went to her regular salon in Coquitlam and they never recognized she even had a perm. The hairdresser just didn't have enough experience and it cost $178, she ended up redoing it at another salon. Wasted money never again read more

Did not have a good experience at this salon. I went in for a trim last minute in the last hour before they closed. It ended up taking almost 1.5 hours for just a trim. My hairdresser kept pressuring me into getting a shampoo and wash, which I did not want as it usually costs extra on top of a hair cut. She kept saying that my hair was oily, and shampooing is necessary for a hair cut, when I washed my hair just the night before, AND have gotten many hair cuts without needing to wash my hair before. Then she gave my originally long hair many layers, which I did not ask for, and I ended up with a hair length & style that made my hair look like a mop. She charged me $40, which is ridiculous for trim that did not even include the shampoo and wash she kept pushing me to do. I do not know the name of this stylist but she had very short, unfashionable layered hair. My hair now resembles hers, but slightly longer. read more
