He provides such insight that even I didn't think of (such as do not get a colored lens mask bc when diving you can't "read" your child's eyes to see if they are in trouble.) I have no words.. Thank you so much for... For everything.

Great staff, family run and EXTREMELY kid friendly…read more Both of my kids (now ages 11 and 15) learned to dive with Lake Norman Scuba. Initially, they were in the "Seal Team" summer program which allows as young as 8 to start. My daughter completed the summer teen Open Water camp the following year at age 13. My son did Seal Team again that summer while waiting to come of age and then once he turned 10, trained and did his open water dives to complete his Open Water Certification. For the Seal Team kids, they only use a private saline pool. For certifications, there is a nearby private quarry (with good visibility) where they accomplish the open water dives. Other excursions are planned on a regular basis through the year; in fact, my son and I went on one of these trips with some other adult students to Florida where he completed his open water dives. Equipment selection is good with some decent used and consignment pieces available for sale as well. The location is not far off the highway and if you are planning to dive at the PDRA's Lake Norman Quarry, it is a short 10 minute drive. An ideal location if you need an air refill or last minute o-ring or something. I highly recommend them.

Going into it I thought it would be more instructional and less of the actual diving but I was wrong. The first half they teach you all you need to know about the equipment and safety of scuba diving. We went to a pool and we were able to swim for about an hour and half. The instructors were very helpful and gave great advice. I personally had some trouble getting used to the breathing but Mike was able to help and give some good tips. Even if you don't plan to get certified, this is still a fun experience to scuba dive and get used to everything. But if you do plan to get certified, they can also use this class as part of the certification course.
