Have been here a number of times with family for lunch, the most recent being last Saturday. Wife , elderly mother in law, and brother in law.
Moderately busy at 1pm, but service quite acceptable. Standard bar menu with good choice of hot dishes, and special of the day on boards.
I am a sucker for a good lamb shank. The others had Enchiladas, Steak and Kidney Pudding, and a chicken dish.
Very good food, my main complaint was theat really there was far too much of it. Yes, this really was over the top. I managed my plateful but my family and I suspect many other people would leave quite a bit. Seems wasteful to serve such large amounts. It is counter productive as it does not encourage you to order a dessert ! Anyway we did, as mother in law is very fond of her desserts ! I said she didnt deserve one as she left much of her main course ! But she wasnt to be deterred. Again we all had different, and again the quantities were huge ! Waffles with lots of ice cream and cream, and a 'fruits of the forest sauce'
I just got the feeling that at busy times service may be rather slow, and I seem to recall on a previous occasion (Sunday lunch) this happened. They are always full on Sunday, so booking is necessary.
Not worth 5 starts because of the waste (does anyone actually have 3 courses here?), but 4 stars well deserved. read more
