Specialties
We are an independent, family run, multiple award winning real ale, cider & whisky freehouse & Post Office Local that also provides artisan teas, coffees, quality soft drinks and snacks. We're also great for live acoustic Sunday trad jazz, Friday traditional singing nights, Thursday folk rhythm & blues and many other fun events. We provide free guided walks at least twice a week with 70 mile views at 850ft on Halkyn Mountain in NE Wales (20mins from Chester). We also provide Post Office Local services.
History
Established in 1760.
An independent, family run, award winning freehouse and Post Office, enjoyed by walkers, riders, cyclists, folk and jazz musicians, game players and locals alike with spectacular 70+ mile views.
The inn was built between 1740 and 1760 (it's on one map and not the other) and has been a feature of Halkyn Mountain since that time. With the advent of new roadways it's only 20mins from Chester but in the past you could catch a horse drawn coach at the crossroads nearby. We've old routemaps on the wall indicating the routes from Holyhead to London avoiding the valleys where the highwaymen hung out!
