Anyways, desperate and in a ton of pain, I reached out to Susan. I had never done acupuncture before and don't know how it works at all... Susan's warmth and intelligence helped me welcome the fact that I'd willingly be letting her stab me with tons of little needles... but more on that later. Just from watching me walk and placing her hands around my back, she identified the pain points, inflammation points, and also that I've been having shoulder pain for a while, without me mentioning that at all. First, the office setting does NOT evoke the feel of a highly successful practice. When I met with Dr. Joen, she proceeded to tell me that my insurance, Anthem PPO, only covers $50 a visit, although I was told that I was covered by insurance and only had a $20 co-pay when I scheduled the appointment. I asked what the $295 consultation fee that she recommended and other extra charges would do to make me feel better, and she told me wants to focus on my whole body and health and acupuncture would not do accomplish that. This was only after viewing my tongue and checking my pulse. I wanted an explanation of what the greater services would provide and she couldn't tell me as that meant she was consulting and that would cost more. Although I am fortunate enough to afford whatever the cost, she told me that I must be poor, as rich people don't care and most of her clients are rich based on where her office is located. She said she services the poor and devotes time and free services around the world and kept telling me that everybody loves her. Unbelievable. I should have walked out when she insulted me, but I was curious. There was a Catch 22, as I wanted more information to make a decision about committing to more services and to see what she was trying to sell me countered by the fact that she wouldn't tell me more as that meant a consultation. She provided her services although reluctantly. She forgot about me being hooked up to a machine that I believe lasted 3 times longer than it should have. After one day, I am experiencing no benefit from her services in making my back and neck better. This was my first acupuncture experience. I will try it again, but with a very different practitioner.

Dr. Shohre Mehvar focuses on my digestive system and treats other conditions as they come up. For example, I have allergies and when the pollens are high I get sinus headaches and puffy eyes. There are times when I have come in with a continuous sinus headache and I leave with no headache at all! She addresses my ears when I get fluid in them. I even go in when I have the flu! Dr. Shohre Mehvar is truly amazing! Before her treatments, I had chronic digestive condition with constipation. Trapped gas, bloating, and they were not regulated at all! This was a HUGH problem for me. I was truly miserable. All these symptoms made it challenging for me to enjoy a tasty meal. I was simply full all the time. No matter what I tried, nothing worked for me. I was told by my gastroenterologist that I am insanely tight and because of that, I've had 2 colonoscopies that both failed and has to be repeated. I've heard such great things and we've also never had cupping done before. Funny enough three days ago she was like oh I wanna go do some cupping. It's kinda hard to find, but you'll have to look for G which is all the way in the back so make sure you drive around and it's on the first floor. From the moment that we got in everyone so positive energy and loving, we felt very much at home. It's a small and quaint little place but full of BIG HEALING ENERGY. Christina has been such a grounding, healing presence through all of it. She is deeply kind, patient, intuitive, and compassionate. There is something about her energy that is truly unlike anyone else's. I always leave feeling calmer, more centered, and better able to move through whatever I'm carrying. The entire experience at Magnolia is wonderful. The support staff is warm, thoughtful, and welcoming, and the space itself feels peaceful from the moment you walk in. I can't recommend Magnolia Wellness, and Christina in particular, highly enough. My only gripe is that I live ~40 minutes away and wish I could come more often!
