I too received the termination of care letter after over a decade with Dr. Caperna. Dr Caperna is a DICK with a "God Complex" with absolutely NO PATIENCE or "Bedside manner"…read more Instead of being able to communicate, he left the room, right in the middle of our interaction, and I was left wondering why. He comes back in about 5 minutes later only for him to show that he was frustrated interacting with me... Rather than give me a chance 'do better' or apologize, or tell me what the problem was, he again threatened to leave me in the room again by myself, as if I were a child that needed a "time out". WHAT AN ASSHOLE. If this guy has no ability to "handle" a wide variety of personalities or types of people from the community, WHAT KIND OF PATIENCE does he have for "medical practice?" I simply walked out... what a shame... I was putting all my hope in him, as I felt fragile, dealing with an ongoing issue I'd been suffering from for few years now...and he came highly recommended. SO DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED. I was so nervous just to be there, challenging the diagnosis, or lack there of from another doctor... I never expected this treatment on top of the emotional and physical pain I came in there with... He either has a sever lack of ability to listen and communicate, or all this was a rude ploy to get me out of there because he didn't really want me as a new patient... either way I wish he could have just told me so, rather than have me go through all of this turmoil. I'm glad his true colors come out on the 1st appointment and not months into it. It's a shame doctors forget they are there to help people. --Congratulations, Dr. Caperna, you earned yourself my DICKHEAD AWARD, earned in less than 10 minutes. She was my father's doctor-he liked…read moreher very much- and when I suggested we try to find a more practical office for a wheelchair as my dad was a new amputee he absolutely refused. I personally left Dr. Shachar because I found a doctor who I used in the past that I was happy with and re-established a relationship with. My father passed and Dr. Shachar called and offered her condolences. Dr. Shachar is not the issue here. At least not for me. Our family has not had any bad medicine from her. Her treatment plans are reasonable. She is kind. The problem is her staff. And I am only writing this negative review in the hopes that this kind and great doctor will consider the way her staff treats her patients. Her staff has always been rude, condescending, haughty. As I mentioned, my mother and father have been going to her for over a decade, and after so much time of a doctor patient relationship you would think there would be some kind of recognition of that fact. I work in an emergency animal hospital. I am a senior receptionist. I have dealt with my clients from the day they got there kitten or puppy to the day where we sadly have to choose peace over a poor quality of life. Now if one day my client calls me to tell me his poodles breath is getting stinkier by the day, it's been going on for awhile, and needs to be seen, I don't tell the 80 year old man he had an appointment, that was scheduled a while ago and well obviously it got cancelled. My soonest is on this day. He can't make it. Okay, let's try this date. He can't make it. 1 more try, he can't do it. Frustrating for parties. I get it. If the older man's son says if he can find another provider for care would the records get there quickly? I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT TELL THE PERSON ON THE PHONE OH YES DEFINITELY. SO SHE ISN'T GOING TO BE A PATIENT HERE ANYMORE CORRECT? This receptionist sounded like she was so happy to be rid of my mom as a patient. A long time patient. For my regular long time clients there's a certain bond we have. I have had to walk my clients, most of them I call friends, off the ledge about there dogs diarrhea not killing them and we'll get them in. I will find the owner of the practice or her 2 associate vets and ask them, hey, can one of you squeeze so and so in on your earliest convenience. I would do that for the 80 year old man as well. And these are pets (which many call there fur babies). Dr. Shachars staff is just very quick to shoo away her human patients of 15 years at the drop of a hat. Lucky for these rude insensitive mouthy employees they can act however they want over the phone. A lot of people don't appreciate the poor treatment of their elderly relatives. My mother has verbally told Dr. Shachar during an appointment how her front staff treated her badly. I do not know if Dr. Shachar does not care or just condones the poor treatment of her patients. I would like to find my mother a new PCP, but like my father, my mother said no, she really likes Dr. Shachar and that's her doctor and not mine. In the past years I have also been treated poorly and spoken down to by these young ladies and have had to refrain from becoming very ghetto. Only for the sake of my parents and Dr. Shachar do I keep my mouth shut. But I can handle myself. My poor deceased father and 80 year old mother cannot. I have just my mama left and Dr. Shachar, C'mon, you have always been there for our family. Please do not allow your front staff girls to be so rude. This in no way reflects my mother's feelings.

She is so friendly and understanding, I know that she has my best interest at heart. I'm also very glad at how young she is as she won't be retiring anytime soon and I hope she is my doc forever. Everyone at the downtown location is very courteous and fast, and friendly. I've hit the Urgent care 3 times and always been seen very quickly. All that aside though, Dr. Falquier rocks. I'm not the type of person to leave negative reviews, but I felt my experience here needed to be…read moreshared. This regards Dr. Hoostal and the reception staff. I am a young person who just moved to San Diego from out of state. I have medication I need to take daily I need to get refilled as well as discuss some health issues I have been having so it's time sensitive I get an appointment. I want to preface that every time I have called this office I was put on a long wait and handed off to a different person every time. The reception has always been audibly irritated and rude even with me asking very simple questions politely which has always made me feel like a burden to call to ask questions. Through my insurance portal, this business and its doctor were recommended to me. I call to become a new patient - they let me know only Dr. Hoostal is only taking new patients instead of the other doctor. That's fine, maybe they haven't updated their availability on the backend yet. I give them my information and they let me know they will call me back when my insurance is approved. I waited about a week, I called again to politely inquire about an estimation on when I might hear back. The receptionist became hostile and annoyed on the phone, letting me know the lady in charge of verifying insurance "has a giant pile on her desk and we get more everyday, so when she gets to it she gets to it." My mouth literally dropped. I didn't know what to say, so I let them know okay just call me when it's approved so we can get new patient work started for my condition. She goes "is there a reason you need to come in?" I let them know yeah I have a condition as well as some other issues so looking to get in to see Dr. Hoostal. I then got a voicemail an hour later saying it went through so I wonder if my call helped urge things along. Finally get to booking an appointment after these phone calls and back and forth. I've made it clear in my calls a few times now I have ADHD and am looking to get an appointment so Dr. Hoostal can hear my medical issues and help with my prescription that I need to take everyday. When they quoted me a month time for my appointment I asked if there was a waitlist for an earlier appointment and they said no (never been to an office that doesn't do this it seems pretty typical) and they asked why - I told them its for my condition which I mentioned on each call before. It's not life threatening, but I do have a migraine condition and if I miss anything in my schedule I am prone to a migraine. Right when I finally get to booking my appointment after these hurdles, reception lets me know Dr. Hoostal can't prescribe ADHD medication. I ask if that's a California law (I'm new to state) or an office thing. She said he has a moral obligation against treating ADHD patients (which I mentioned to them at least three times I have already) so I would have to see someone else so my time in the queue to become a new patient essentially meant nothing. Kind of confusing as most neurodivergent people also have ADHD and this is a pretty common disorder. I urge people looking for this to become their PCP to look at other nearby establishments who don't discriminate against patients based on their lifelong health conditions and whose employees are respectful on the phone. I understand healthcare can be stressful but it made me feel really self-conscious and discouraged every time that I called and every simple polite question was met with hostility and noticeable annoyance and tiredness. Healthcare shouldn't be a place where patients need to walk on eggshells or be ashamed of issues they are dealing with. If you are looking to be a patient here I would look elsewhere.
