Moved in and my apartment was infested with ants. Had to wait a week for pest control to come out. Enough said.

It's been a month since my move-in to Block C, and I have to say that I've been nothing but impressed with the whole experience. William gave a great tour and Janeall has been a fabulous point person as we navigated the move-in process and is always prompt, cheerful, and accommodating when I have a question. The building itself is still getting some upgrades, carpet in the hallways to dampen noise is the newest edition. The apartment is beautiful, with wonderful natural light but almost no storage. You have to be creative, that's for sure. Block C is next to Cal State San Marcos, it's inevitable that there are going to be students living in the complex. Weekends have been loud, but only in common areas. I can never hear anything when windows are closed, and never hear our neighbors. The amenities are great, with the exception of parking, if you have two cars be prepared to bite the bullet and add an additional vehicle to your lease for $125 a month. Street parking, especially with the construction happening around the complex, is obsolete. The building is always clean, the staff is nice, and the apartments are beautifully done. read more

If you like living with a bunch of annoying college kids who party till 3 am every night I would recommend block c for you. Parking is terrible. The amount of loud noises you hear everyday makes paying 2k and up terrible!! They built these apartments so terrible and cheap. You can hear every little noise from your neighbors apartments! It's like living with people who have lead feet! You hear everything from upstairs! The gym is nice but the equipment is always out of order. Maintenance is nice but the office people are very unprofessional. When there boss isn't around they party by the pool area and play loud music. It's like living in a dorm. In The parking garage there is always cars Revving their engines and starting all the alarms. You share parking with all the neighboring restaurants and the school. They make you pay 125$ every month for basically no parking. Friday nights good luck finding parking. Worst place I've lived so far. I'm so happy I'm leaving! read more

My nightmare at Block C 1. They will force you to use ePremium renters' insurance because they require specific language related to pump that drains condensation from AC unit. My Allstate agent had never heard of this language, but couldn't alter the language of their standard contract. So, we paid 120% more for ePremium. 2. When your bedroom is flooded by wind-driven rain because the sliding door was dislodged from track, they (both ePremium and MG Properties) try desperately to weasel out of payment for property damage. I had to get a lawyer to contact them and then they (between them) did actually pay for our damages and the hotel while drywall crews and dehumidifiers occupied our bedroom. It was right before Christmas. 3.The very pump ePremium policy refers too, failed and flooded out downstairs neighbor's place. More appliance-sized dehumidifiers, carpet damage and consternation. 4. My wife's hybrid vehicle was burglarized in the parking garage (third-floor) The criminals hacked out the entire hybrid-drive battery from under the back seat. 5. They didn't give us the opportunity to be present for the post-move-out inspection and immediately replaced the carpets, a $2,200 bill they are now trying to charge to us. Carpet not replaced after flooded 2x. 6. Office staff is dismissive, unresponsive, and and motivated only to extract every penny possible from their tenants. Only positive is maintenance staff particularly, Tom and Tyler are actually good people and respond quickly and capably. 7. I moved from Texas to California last year, my previous apartment management group, returned 100% of my deposit after 7 years. This place returned a fraction of it after 12 months. read more

We recently moved into the new building of block c and the apartments are gorgeous. Sara in the leasing office was extremely helpful during the entire process. She answered all of our questions very quickly. She went above and beyond to make sure our transition into our new home was flawless. The apartments themselves are very modern. The giant windows let in a lot of light. All of the kitchen appliances are new and the townhomes have a double door fridge. The apartments are in walking distance to restaurants which I have made a lot of use of especially copa vida downstairs. read more

Life has been great since my move from Prominence to Block C. John and Jessica are both excellent property managers. The move in was smooth, and they have been very kind and attentive to all of our questions or requests. Pros: -The complex has awesome amenities that are never over crowded. -Community grounds are well maintained. -My service requests have all been fulfilled within 24 hours. -Courtesy patrol was quick and helpful when I texted about my upstairs neighbor playing loud music at night. -Parking is no longer an issue for us with two cars. The garage has ample resident parking. Some other reviewer noted the parking is $170/month which is not true. I'm ok paying $125/month at Block C, it was $100 for an extra parking spot at Prominence (a small garage, far from my apt unit, could barely fit my Tacoma). I believe the price is somewhat justified because it is walking distance to CSUSM where we would've had to buy a parking permit had we moved further out. Cons: -A lot of construction surrounding the area. Although I am excited about the future plans for this neighborhood (google: North City San Marcos). -My unit is facing URGE/Aleworks, which is nice and lively but this does come with noise- especially from the brewery's fermentation tanks and such. -A few inconsiderate residents that do not pick up after their dogs. Don't re-rack and clean up after themselves in the fitness center. But this is something that you will likely encounter in any apartment community. read more

Absolutely love Block C. Everything from the apartments themselves to the amenities like the pool & gym are so modern and gorgeous!! There is even a 24 hr lounge that I often use for studying. Management here is helpful and friendly, even the maintenance guys are great too! They once helped me jumpstart my car when it died in the parking structure. Also love having Urge so close by because they have amazing food & dessert. I do not have any complaints - block c is definitely the ideal place to live. read more

Do not NOT NOT consider block C as a place to live. I am a grad student getting ready to go to school at San Marcos and Block C and their Shady management told me that their complex that was under construction when I looked at it in June would be done no problem by the time school started in August. August roles around and they contact me saying the building won't be done, but that they have arranged me to live in the dorms for about two weeks for free at the college. I accepted thinking it will save me money. They told me to contact the housing department when moving in. I contact the housing department and they say they have no idea what is going on and they have never been contacted by Block C. I tried to go back to Block C and talk to management, but their weak managers kept dodging my phone calls not wanting to take responsibility. It was 2 days before school started and I didn't have a place to live all because Block C is the most poorly ran establishment. So happy to be at Camden Old Creek apartments, much nicer and a honest company. If I could give less then one star I would. Stay away from Block C!!!! read more

horrible application process. flat out scam! we left a 300 deposit for 3 day application review. they intentionally dragged their feet with every document, they never ran my credit but yet sent a letter saying i had no experience, and they would need more money. which is bs! my credit is over 800!! i checked with credit bureau, my credit was never run by them. i sent countless emails asking why this was taking so long. they waited until after the 3 days ended and when we called them on it and said it was taking too long, they refused to give deposit back. i have multiple emails asking chelsea and helena what the hold up was. i asked for a manager and never got a call back. total scam!!! completely fruadulent!! Maggie...to answer your response...I DID contact them. Crickets chirping...heard nothing back. Your Block C office only give an endless line of excuses. WE WANT OUR DEPOSIT BACK! This was YOUR wrongdoing, not ours. We did everything asked of us. This is 10000% on YOU guys for taking your time and dragging your feet beyond the 72 hours. You want to make it right, you say?? Ever since I've moved in, I have loved it here! I live in a spacious 3 bed 3 bath with some roommates, and I never want to leave. The location is perfect: walking distance to campus, a bowling alley (coming in April), a brewery (coming in April), Tapioca express, a Mexican restaurant, and more. There is a 24 hour two story gym, a cycling room, movie rooms, and a room with a pool table. The people who live here are very friendly. The office ladies are extremely helpful, welcoming, and I feel comfortable asking them anything. Together they work hard to make sure the residents are loving their living space. The complex often hosts events such as painting parties, cooking classes, and more. There are so many amenities! Lastly, Block C is extremely safe. There is a security guard who walks the premises every night. To enter the complex, access the gym, and enter the pool or patio room, you must have a scanning key. Block C is beautiful, safe, and it feels as if I'm living in a little resort! I definitely recommend it! Oh and by the way, there is guest parking now! read more

When I was looking at apartments in San Marcos I fell in love with this place. The location is perfect, it is quite literally down the street from CSUSM and 8 minute drive to Palomar College (where I work). There are really cool places all within walking distance, and it close to the 78 to get anywhere you need to go within minutes. I read some of the reviews on here and I'm shocked because Samantha and Helena are awesome at the leasing office, and they have gone out of their way to help me with getting my apartment. They always respond to my emails and phone calls, and made the whole process easy for me. Tyler and the maintenance crew introduced themselves to me personally and assured me they would take care of anything I needed which gave me peace of mind. They have already addressed a few things for me, such as moving furniture upstairs in my studio loft, and they were always happy to help. Between Samantha and team, as well as Tyler and team, I know I'm in good hands here at these awesome apartments. The apartments are extremely modern feeling, and they have a lot of nice amenities. I'm quite impressed with the gym as well, it's small but even for someone who is a workout junkie like me I can still get a good lift in and do cardio/abs. Parking has never been an issue for me as well, and if I can't park on the street then the structure always has spots open. Covered parking is a plus in my eyes anyways! I'm loving my cozy studio loft, and I know I'm in good hands here at Block C! read more

I lived at block c for a little over a year and the staff was nothing but unhelpful and rude. My room flooded three times within two months, and my roommates glass shower door fell off the hinges (due to incorrect placement from the manufacturer, this is confirmed by the block c maintenance staff) and the property managers did nothing for my roommate and I. I was displaced from my apartment due to the flooding for two and a half months while they brought huge industrial fans in to "fix" the mess. The office staff were extremely rude and unhelpful during this time. I cannot believe they treated their customers who pay $2500 a month for rent like this. I am highly disappointed. read more

overall happy to be finally out. Just want to point how weird the front office is to take things out on their residents, the lying, disrespect, disregard. Its so ridiculous its like the come to work specifically to make living there a irritating experience. You can not take up any grievances with the front office as you will either be ignored and have it used against you for some reason. The staff is extremely rude and disrespectful to actual residents. Walking by the front door seeing people wait to talk to the office pushing people out the door for trying to go in the office Elevator breaks down constantly and takes weeks even months to fix. Most recently broken from August- December 6 but it will probabky break again. the place will even send emails saying the elevator is fixed when it isn't. As well as the doors in the parking garage. Not allowed to park on the street by the apartments or on the first floor of the parking garages Over night. Gives parking tickets to residents even when They have a parking permit. Front office is generally unresponsive with email, phone call, and going to front office in person. Constantly having events that block most entrances the property without ever once consulting the people who live here. Tickets people who live here but never the people who come here for events or work nearby. Tried to cover up a spreading Mold problem in the building without telling nearby residents which effected the health and welfare of the residents There is not enough time to talk about the negative reasons to not live here. read more

I truly appreciate the Block C. Unlike other places I have lived Van and the rest of the staff are very personal and make me feel at home. They always handle things in a respectful manner and I am thankful for the hospitality they have given me since the day I moved in. UPDATE June 2022: After being at Block C for three years I am sad to say it has gone completely downhill. They have filled the majority of units with college students who throw parties any given day of the week very late into the night. We have filed several noise complaints only to receive the response "...we can't prevent people from violating the rules," and that we should continue to contact courtesy patrol-- which rarely if ever does courtesy patrol respond to noise complaints and they also often fail to log the complaints in the log in order to keep a record. The leasing office no longer goes above and beyond, nor is there a feeling that they genuinely care--there's been a drastic change since Sara left the leasing office. Additionally, the community lounge area attached to the pool used to be free with reservation, now they charge to rent it per hour. The jacuzzi/spa has been broken down more times than I can count. When the internal blinds in our son's room got stuck, they opted to give us very cheap paper blinds instead of fixing the mechanism that moved them up and down. The elevators are constantly broken, which is very difficult when you've got a stroller and a baby. And, they give virtually no notice before they make you move your car in the parking garage due to system testing or power washing. Most of our friends have also seen the decline in Block C and have chosen to leave, and we will gladly be joining them soon. We will be leaving immediately after our lease is up! read more

Block C is an amazing complex to live in, especially if you are a college student because it is right next to campus! The leasing staff, Janeall and Van, are very helpful and considerate with any issues you encounter along the way of your residence here. They get back to you extremely fast and really care about you. This place just keeps getting worse. There is dog excrement everywhere on the second floor and trash juice stains on the walkways on the third level. The elevators just so happened to break every other week (coincidentally always when I seem to be carrying a lot things). The guests still park in resident parking and no one is patrolling the parking garage to ensure that doesn't happen (at least that I've seen). It takes 30 minutes for our oven to heat up to at least 350 degrees. Not to mention, the AC is ridiculous. If you have any sort of allergy or are sensitive to things like that, do not move here. For example, the AC blasts artic air at all times no matter what the temperature is; often time making it extremely cold inside despite the AC only being set at 75 degrees. It is 78 degrees outside, but because of how extremely cold the AC is we keep it at 75-76 or above because of how unbearable the AC blast is. There are no ceiling fans upstairs in the loft apartments and it gets very warm very fast. This property has not been managed well. Now, they are also raising rents on residents significantly as well so expect a large increase in rent if you want to renew to lease here. read more

I toured at block c last week just to see the options in the san marcos area, I am not looking to move any time soon I have been at my current residence for over 8 years now but I just wanted to see some of the newer apartments. I was toured by a woman named Janeall she was extremely friendly, super bubbly personality. Most places when I let them know I am not looking to move any time soon they will brush me to the side however Janeall did not she still took the time to show me around the community. The apartments are beautiful the floor finishings are to die for, I love the open kitchen space and storage, the clubhouse area also was something I havent seen in a while at an apartment complex. If I was looking to move I most certainly would have left my information with Janeall. I will be keeping this apartment complex in mind for the future read more

I couldn't be happier about my decision to move into Block C! Its definitely an urban/modern living with everything conveniently located inside. Nice size pool, hot tub, game room, a state of the art gym and minutes away from restaurant row! I can't wait for all the fun things to open that are in walking distance as well! All of the staff, including the security night guards are all very friendly, polite, and courteous. Everything you can imagine...from cooking parties to wine/painting parties are all held down in the main clubhouse aka Club 250. There's gas grills on site as well as a huge parking structure that has 24/7 cameras. The sprinter is also in walking distance. I'm so excited to be living here and making new friends in my new home state! Thank you to Sydney, Kathy, and Van for making the whole moving in process an easy one! Update: They were able to change the hours of the study lounge called "The Cube" to 24 hours! Thanks to Van, Sydney, and all the other office ladies! It's also really nice to know there are a usually a couple of security guards on premise which makes me feel comfortable and safe living here. I moved here about a week ago and I absolutely love it! Best decision I've ever made! The apartment is very modern with a sleek, clean look. The fully-equipped gym, pool, common lounge area by the pool, and fire pit are awesome amenities. The cube, a lounge area which I use to study is awesome as well! The only reason I didn't give this review 5-stars is because the resident parking pass is really pricey! The parking structure is completely empty and I wish they didn't charge so much for residents to park especially since the structure has so many empty spaces to park. Also, the lounge area called the cube near the firepits I use for studying closes at 10pm. As a grad student, I wish it was accessible 24 hours or at least til midnight. Hopefully they are able to change this and make it accessible after 10pm since it's an enclosed area and noise shouldn't be an issue. Other than that, everything about this place is incredible! I am super excited for the new bar/bowling alley, pizzeria, and coffee shop opening! read more

I highly recommend Block C! This is my first apartment/moving experience and ALL of the staff has made it an incredibly seamless transition from start to finish. The grounds are extremely well kept and the staff is always available and helpful should I ever need anything. They offer monthly events and activities for all residents and the complex has everything you need to live comfortably and more. PLUS it is a very dog friendly community. This Apartment complex is amazing, The pool area has a very nice set up with the pool and Jacuzzi being very clean. Two nice size BBQ pits which is very convenient for my friends and family who comes to visit for small gathering. Also, the gym is incredible. It's open 24hrs to residents, so you will be able to workout without leaving the complex whatever time is best for you.Maintenance and the office staff are super helpful and nice. Anything that I call for they are on it immediately, works orders are done super quick, and most importantly they care for their residents!!! read more

DO NOT MOVE IN HERE IF YOU ARE A STUDENT AT CSUSM. The split between families and student is around 90% families 10% students, who are currently looking to move out. The families that live here have young kids that are ALWAYS in the common areas so do not expect to have any sort of social activity outside of your apartment. You will hear footsteps everywhere in your apartment, even if you are on the top floor. The elevators are constantly broken and the bridge from the parking garage to the 215 apartment complex has been broken for MONTHS. They say that parking is private and make you pay $170 BUT anyone can and will park next to you, even if they are not a resident of the apartment. There are a lot of retail shops which looked nice before moving in, but now after living here for months, I wish they had never been built. The amounts of people that come to dine and checkout retail is insane. There is no room on the first three stories of the parking garage on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights which makes me question why I even bothered buying a parking pass. I won't even mention management because all of the other reviews are spot on about how bad they drop the ball. As a student of CSUSM, I wish so badly that CSUSM would step in and buy the apartment complex and rent it only to students or recent grads. Expect to walk around the common areas and see couples 40+ open their doors and take their dogs for their once-a-month stroll around Urge and back. This is my third apartment I have lived in and I can say with confidence that I will not be renewing my lease until new management is put into play or the school across the street steps in and does something about all of these old people stealing cheap rent from students! read more

Finding a new apartment to live in is always a struggle. Whether you have been looking for months or have been putting it off till the last minute, it is always a stressful situation. Sometimes, as in my case you have no choice but to find somewhere to live at the last minute due to new opportunities at work and you get stuck googling your way into your next living situation. With the litany of resources and customer reviews out there today you can easily be lulled into a sense of security when searching and can fool yourself into thinking you've found a diamond in the rough. Unfortunately, that is what happened to me. I lived in Block C for 11 months from May 2017 to April 2018 and below is why I would not recommend it to anyone, unless you're looking for an overpriced college dorm. Moving to California from the east coast, there are certain expectations for quality of life that I would expect to find, among these are working A/C, laundry/dryer units within the apartment or close proximity, and a professional, courteous management staff. However, upon first starting my search I realized that due to the favorable climate of California A/C was not a given, but that everything else could pretty easily be found. Using my above search criteria, I went to google and quickly found a handful of apartments to preview. In the end, the one that stood out was Block C. Not only did it have everything I was looking for, but it was in a fun location, with restaurants, and even accommodated pets! After a long cross country drive filled with adventure, my girlfriend and I arrived at the "future downtown of North County," ready to settle in and explore everything Block C had to offer. First impressions weren't the best. Driving up we quickly realized that the advertised restaurants were months away from completion and that we would be living in a construction zone our entire time there. We still stayed positive, though, and tried to look on the bright side. The pictures we had been shown of our loft were promising. Despite its small size, it was new, was the cheapest rent in the building, and had a washer/dryer. And while there were things not depicted - like the "industrial look" of "by design" cracking unfinished cement floors - it still showed promise as a good one-year transitional spot. Also, Urge was right there, as advertised, and the food and atmosphere were fun, so we figured we could just adapt and see how it would all turn out. Upon trying to go to sleep that first night we realized that we had just gotten ourselves onto an unplanned roller coast ride. Due to an unthought-of design flaw, we had 20 feet of windows on the setting sun side of the building and no way to close the blinds, so we decided to ask the leasing office if there was anything they could do to help us. They quickly told us that they had already order poles to allow tenants to close the blinds themselves, so everything seemed copasetic. Thus began the rollercoaster of living at Block C. With my girlfriend at the time flying in and out of town and a busy work schedule, the first few months flew by without a hitch. Cooking classes were fun, and the gym was good enough to justify not getting a gym membership anywhere else; Life was good. That was until everything started to fall apart. First it was the dryer vent coming off the wall which was fixed by maintenance with duct tape. Then it was the office staff forgetting that they had ever said anything about poles for the windows. As the apartment was a sleeping loft with the "bedroom" on the second story, I had to make do by draping a blanket over the loft railing to create as much darkness as I could to sleep. Rather than wait for the promised poles, and tired of not having a way to darken the apartment (as a military officer I need to sometimes sleep during the day after all-night duty), I went into the office and asked if I could hang curtains, as that would solve the problem of the excessive light relatively quickly. I was told there would be no problem with that at all. Also, at the same time my fiancé had begun making friends around the apartment complex and even became good friends with Phivan, the apartment manager. Everything was looking up again. Around the same time the new restaurants, Halycon and Stella, opened up and Block C seemed to be living up to expectations. However, shortly after the opening of the restaurants it could be seen that they weren't being managed well and there was little to no doubt they wouldn't be around for long. In addition to that, due to personality differences, my fiancé's friendship with the apartment manager deteriorated and we were apparently stuck between a rock and a hard place. The A/C in our apartment went out for two months with four separate maintenance calls to fix the problem.
