The initial person that was supposed to do my taxes had almost zero communication with me. Theresa Gibson will ignore your phone calls and emails and taxes were not fully prepared by the deadline. My file had to be transferred to Diana Zalis and we had to file an extension to make sure everything was done correctly. There were of course some mistakes on my file which Diana was able to fix. I will recommend Diana who was able to help me at the last minute. I had conversations with other people at Block Advisors but they were of no help. PLEASE AVOID THIS BRANCH AT ALL COSTS. Long story short- one of the tax advisors here made errors on our taxes leading to us receiving a notice saying we owed the IRS. Worst of all, my signature was forged on one of the documents by someone from this branch. I reached out to the responsible advisor and the branch manager but received no response concerning this very troubling issue. The details of my experience follows: My husband and I started using H&R block in 2015. Our first filing experience turned out to be a positive experience, so we returned in 2016. Before mailing our 2016 return, I noticed a possible error and emailed Mr. S (our advisor -whose name I will omit because he has a family) to advise on such. He advised me that he was correct in his filing. We paid over $200 to get our taxes done and Mr. S is considered to be a tax expert so we trusted his reasoning and went ahead with the filing. A few weeks later we received a letter from the IRS saying that we owed an additional $1000 in taxes due to the same error I queried with Mr. S (which he assured me was fine). We paid the amount owed plus interest and decided to move on. We did not let this experience change how we felt about this branch(granted that we had a positive experience the year prior). We opted to entrust our taxes to H&R block Shorthills, NJ once again for 2017 to ensure that they are done by professionals and that we could have peace of mind knowing that our taxes are being done by people who fully understand the system. The advisor started my return but told me that he had to query which form to file in my case before submitting the return. He had me sign a few documents and told me that my return would be ready the following Saturday. I did not hear from him on that day so my husband called him on the following Monday. The advisor informed him that my return would be ready on Wednesday. We collected my return and after careful review noticed that the wrong form was filed. He had all of my information beforehand from email communications with my husband. I informed him of this error. He repeatedly tried to justify filing the incorrect form. We emailed back and forth about 4 times during which I had to find proof from the IRS website and compare my husband's filing to prove that I was correct in this case. He eventually consulted with their tax department who told him that the wrong form was indeed filed. I had to return to the office to collect and subsequently mail an amended return. My issue with this situation is the fact that I had to wait over a week and repeatedly contact the advisor just to have my initial return filed. At this point he had all of my tax documents so it was not a case where I could simply go to someone else. Secondly, even after waiting just to have my initial return electronically filed, I had to be the one to catch this huge error (for the second year in a row)and had I not been persistent about this, we would have had another letter this year telling us we owed the IRS. This is the second year we have had nothing but frustration in dealing with H&R block, Shorthills NJ to file taxes. I am extremely upset by this entire experience and I do not understand why my husband and I are paying tax professionals hundreds of dollars only to have to find mistakes ourselves and go through such a difficult time just to have a preparer acknowledge and correct the mistake. In addition to this, upon reviewing my documents, I realized the signature on the final page of my forms did not match the signature I left on file. I asked the advisor about this but received no reply. I also emailed my concerns to the manager with attached documents proving the signature discrepancy but was also ignored. Please stay away from this branch. They are very unprofessional. They will overcharge you and you still won't have peace of mind in knowing that your taxes are done right. I will absolutely be going to the authorities the investigate this case of forgery. read more

My husband and I used the Block Advisors location in Short Hills for our tax preparation services this year. We were extremely dissatisfied with the quality of service that we received and strongly discourage others from having their taxes prepared at this location. We worked with one of the more senior tax consultants. The whole process required making three trips to the office totaling more than four hours. The first visit took more than two hours, not because our taxes were particularly complicated, but because our tax consultant seemed more concerned with telling stories and name dropping than about the details of our forms. He repeatedly made data entry errors and was unable to answer basic questions during the preparation process. Upon returning for a second visit, we learned that the consultant had misplaced our local tax forms. Both the consultant and another employee tried to convince us that this didn't matter because we weren't required to file those forms anyway. This is simply untrue. Later that night, the consultant called to say that he had found the forms. A couple of days later, my husband scheduled an appointment with the consultant online, for 8am the following morning. The office was closed when my husband arrived. When the office finally opened and we reviewed all of our forms, my husband noticed several errors on both of our local tax forms, including an error in one of our social security numbers. We chose Block Advisors with the hope of forming a longer-term relationship with a consultant who would be available year-round. After experiencing this level of arrogance, condescension, and incompetence, we will not be returning to Block Advisors again. read more
