Our first instinct is to go to Dunkin' Donuts for coffee and donuts. However, I thought the donuts served at Dunkin' Donuts were pretty bad. I ordered a chocolate donut which was cold, dry and tasteless. Half way through, I thew it in the trash. The second time at Dunkin' Donuts, I ordered a French Cruller which was also cold and stiff. The only items I liked from there were their coffees. My mother-in-law recommended Daylight Donuts to us. I've never heard of them, but they are a privately held company founded in 1954. (originators were Tommy & Lucille Day and they set out to create a "light" texture and flavor... so hence the name "Daylight Donuts.") All their stores are independently owned and operated. The sad part is, Dunkin' Donuts is located on the same street so they probably take away some of their customers. Anyway, upon entering Daylight Donuts, we noticed the cute decor which is more old school and homey. We were immediately greeted by the friendly owners. I decided to try one of their donuts and my husband opted for a sausage roll. I do like how their donuts are light, not too dense and just perfectly sweet (not overly sweet.). I tried some of the sausage roll as well and it was warm and good. The food tasted like it was made recently and not sitting out for a long time. We could see them preparing and donuts in the back and they seemed busy baking. They also serve coffee, other drinks, cinnamon rolls, donut holes, croissants, filled donuts, raised donuts, and cake donuts. My mother-in-law told us that the owners are always providing donuts and food to her church and that's how she got to know them.
