This was the best massage I've ever had, and the cheapest too. I got package A, which is a 30 minute foot reflexology massage and a 30 minute body massage. The masseuse was very nice and not too chatty. In both the foot and body massage, everything she did felt like it was being done for a reason; there were no parts that felt too light or pointless. This is not a fancy place, but they do a good job of ensuring that it's relaxing. The lights are nicely dimmed and the music was pleasant and quiet. I also really like that they take walkins. Unprofessional. I was told to come in at 5 for an appointment, so then after walking through a rainstorm to get there in time I was told to 'maybe come back in an hour'. There have got to be more professional places in Charlottesville than this. read more

Update: came back 2nd time, woman just says "Too busy, too busy." There was only 1 customer and only her working. She was not able to communicate when to come back, or any alternatives to "Go away." Incredibly poor business model--laughing and shaking my head. Not worth your time/effort to drive here, park, etc. but I suppose if you're in the area killing time it's an option. First experience: Long story short, I can't complain about a 1 hour foot massage for $32. I had a male masseuse who was very good and professional. About 1/2 way through a female masseuse set up with a client directly next to us (no one else in the place) and talked incessantly for the remainder of the massage to the guy who was working on me. He offered 1-2 word answers occasionally. I found her to be EXTREMELY unprofessional, as the lights are dimmed, spa music is on, etc. yet she was loudly talking and gesturing like you'd find maybe at a nail place or worse. It would have been more distracting had she been speaking English, at least a foreign language is easier to tune out if you can't understand what's being said. If I was her client I probably would have said something, not tipped...I dunno. Especially considering there were only 2 clients in an empty spa you'd think they could maybe wait an hour to have the conversation once they were done with us. Neither I nor the other woman spoke at all--*hint hint*. Definitely best to have cash, it appears they charge extra for debit/credit transactions, which is a little sketchy, though probably imperative to staying open. read more

I love this place! Excellent service for the price. I actually think they undersell themselves for the sake of getting business, but it is what it is. Excellent foot reflexology and full body massage. Although I like both massage therapist, i prefer the male massage therapist. NEVER AGAIN!!! So fucked up. Worst experience ever. I was given a gift certificate to this place, so I tried it. I am traumatized & in so much pain. The woman who came in & abused me was completely untrained, pushing hard on my spine, not letting up when I said it was too hard. She really hurt me & didn't even understand me when I said no! It was really bad. She went way too close to my private areas and took the towel right off me, leaving me completely uncovered & cold. Totally bazaar. If you are modest and or want a "spa" experience, this is not the place for you. I chose a 30 minute Body Table Massage for $30 and what a fabulous bargain. The massage began with me face down on the table with a very thin sheet to cover me. When the massage began, it was rigorous with a firm sweeping motions across my entire back and butt. After my back was warmed up, I could tell that the therapist knew the trigger points to relieve tension. After my back, he worked on my legs and arms. My skin sure felt invigorated. Then came the karate chops and palm slaps to my entire backside. The massage was finished with a warm towel rub down. My husband chose a 30 minute foot massage. When the therapist started working on the trigger points in his feet, the therapist could tell that his shoulder was sore and suggested instead of a 30 minute foot massage to shorten it to 20 minutes and do a 10 minute shoulder chair massage. My husband felt great afterward. I really enjoyed the massage and definitely would go back, but definitely not a spa experience. read more

First, the price. At $45/hr for a full body massage, the price is unbeatable. The massage was thorough with focus on shoulder/neck and the back and done in a traditional Chinese way with lots of elbows. Definitely relaxing, will go back again. Complaints: the masseuse left for about 5 minutes in the middle of the session, presumably to heat up the wet towel used in the massage. Another is that the front desk man kept badly singing along a song throughout the entire hour and it bothered me a bit. The walls of the building aren't very soundproof and I could hear kids yelling at the top of their lungs playing outside. read more

Got a 1-hour table massage because of ongoing shoulder/ back issue. The woman who massaged me was wonderful. Experienced and professional, she spent a lot of time on the pained area and it felt better after. They don't speak much English so no need to make small talk on the table. I've now had several 60-minute full-body massages at Bliss. Needless to say, I'm quite satisfied with the service. It's not a fancy 'spa'--just a good, well-priced massage service. I've always had the same woman masseuse (I *think* it's always the same woman). Her English is limited, but that's not much of a problem, unless the phone conversation gets complicated when trying to make an appointment. Occasionally she has to take to phone call during the massage, because it seems to be a one- or two-person operation. I've never been there when another customer was in the other massage room; I usually book only a few minutes ahead of time (and I walked in once w/o an appointment); only once was another customer waiting at the end of my hour. So, getting a session is easy. Every massage I've had has been is very good. I don't know massage styles/techniques, but I'd describe this as a nice combination of rigorous (e.g., walking on back briefly; vigorous work on my sore back and shoulders) and soothing/relaxing. I like the hot-towel wipe down to wipe off massage oil. The 1-hour full-body massage is truly "full body"--head (including scalp and face) to toe, front and back (except genitals, of course). In short, very good experiences. It's the only place in Charlottesville I go. read more

No, it's not a spa, but very solid, therapeutic work in the Chinese tradition. i'm a massage therapist and I appreciate the full hour or 90 minutes of deep, professional work. They may not speak English fluently, but they are great folks and quite serious about the work. It is low cost, low frills for those of us that want time spent getting some seriously deep work. I've only ever had the table massage. I have never been disappointed. While not a salon spa experience and there're no robes or slippers you do get one full hour on the table getting a massage. The only drawback in my estimation is that the rooms are not quiet. All the mall noise comes straight through the windows. read more

Best massage I've ever gotten. Back and neck had been aching for weeks after a bicycle accident. Went to physical therapy 6-8 times with little improvement. 60 minute deep tissue massage from Zheng, immediately felt much better. Have been back twice since. Hit or miss - they do the walk on your back thing which is good. Other times, it's terrible. Sometimes you will just get pet like a dog or if you were a girl who is for some reason sharing a bed with a creep who just pets you all night. If you are getting massages to take care of actual soreness or to relax your muscles, you don't want to be pet. It's not about feeling loved by some old foreign woman, but about reducing tension. You could say hard in 10 different ways, but when they pretend not to speak any English you realize you just lost your money. I'm giving it 2 stars, because I know some of the masseuses faced dire circumstances in China and are depressed about leaving their husbands and families. I want them to feel comfortable in America, but it was a creepy experience for me to have my body pet by an old woman, and a waste of money.
