After building two structures here in anchorage, and on my second in Seldovia, I am pissed. I just returned an unused garden item at lowes, no receipt, past 90 days, the store manager allowed it. I just tried to return a small box of emt fittings at browns. The socially detached, un empathetic jack-a$$ millenial immediately sighed a long sigh, and threw out half of my receipts because they were past the 60 days allowed, citing policy. The rest of the items, i purchased less than a week ago. Strange, the Sales clerk to my right kept looking over uncomfortably, as HE KNEW, THAT I KNEW THAT HE KNEW, that i had just purchased them. Way to go! Thank god, where i work, i am allowed to deviate from company policy to take care of my customers, who ultimately pay my income. F()ck this guy, and screw you BROWNS for not giving your employees the power to take care of a customer. You'll find me at LOWES.

They have a Showroom at 6th Ave. and another off Old Seward closer to Dimond. I call Dave and he tells me what to get and tells me what's available and the model type. All their people know their stuff. I bought these cool Alexa/Google voice activated light switches for every room and bathrooms. They can control up to 29 lights on one switch so like our bedroom lights that have like 11 on one switch is no problem. Lutron Caseta Wireless Smart Dimmers. 'Alexa, turn down the bedroom lights to 15%". Yeah, a little pricy but worth it! The house we're building is 100% all LED. We figured out the lighting we needed from our architect then we sourced about 75% of our lighting needs here. They don't carry everything but they carry a lot and some things have to be ordered. This time I needed 100 Watt LEDs equivalent to standard size bulb (they call that a A19 bulb type). Usually for a standard LED bulb I go to Lowes or Home Depot. But the higher Watt Bulbs 75 and 100 Watt Equivalents there are a oversized LED bulb. Trying to put them in our new Island Pendants - uh too big -- I need the Lumens to be at a minimum 810 -- Architect thing -- Lowes and Home Depot Oversized Only ... ARRRGH! Called Browns and got the answer I needed and at the equivalent prices that would have been at Lowes or Home Depot ... the advantage at Brown's -- Selection and ability to order to your specific needs. I went by the store off Old Seward and grabbed them.

Neighbors was the highest price but they had great reviews and we talked with the owner when we first went in and got a good feeling and justified the price by telling ourselves - it we pay top dollar they prob do a great job and that would make it worth it. I have worked for a Millworker company before and have installed a bunch of doors but a shoulder injury has sidelined me. They said the doors were finally ready to install in August and two guys showed up to install them. The original quote was $5600 for the 4 doors and $2,000 per door to install / we got that down to $1,000 per door if I took off the old trim and put it back up myself. The one installer could not of been nicer to deal with and said he'd worked there for 3 years. Turns out all four doors were made with the wrong sweeps on the bottom, the locks were drilled wrong and the jams were routed incorrectly for the door latch plates. The first door they installed was very hard to close and the tenant was unable to operate it - I was advised to get a different door sweep at Lowe's which I did and it worked a little better. I hand chiseled out the doors to accept the lock hardware as it was getting late and I didn't want the tenants coming home and not being able to lock the doors. After they left we noticed our door made a very noticeable squeak when closing and my wife was unable to lock or unlock the doors- required pulling tightly on the door handle to be able to engage the deadbolt - 3 out of the 4 doors had that problem. Also noticed daylight coming through in several areas of different doors even though they had spray foamed and taped the doors. Went into Neighbors the next morning to discuss our issues and to cancel a down payment we had put on a garden door. Went into Neighbors were advised there would be a fee to cancel and that no one was available to try to fix our doors for another week and that they would have someone call about our other issues when they came in. The owner called us back and listed all the reasons the doors were made incorrectly - drilled wrong, wrong sweeps installed etc. No apologies but said someone would be out by the end of the week to address. Same installer came out and apologized for the issues ( only apology we received ) and he spent the day installing different sweeps, chiseling out for latch plates and completely re installing our door. After he left I still saw daylight in the lockset area of our door so I pulled off the flimsy tape on the outside and noticed big gaps in the insulation all around the door as well as multiple shims proud of the doors and requiring cleaning up before installing the trim. I pulled tape off all the other doors and they all had the same problems. By then we had given up on Neighbors being able to install the doors correctly and not wanting to inconvenience our tenants again our spend another day undergoing more "tweaking" I bought some spray foam and sealed all the doors correctly, trimmed off all the shims in and out and re taped the exterior with proper tape. I had asked the estimator right off the bat if they could center the doors in the opening so I could re use all the exterior trim that was made to fit inside the siding and he said should be no problem & I left it out for them to see - I had to remake it for 3 of the 4 doors anyway. I sent them 3 separate emails to the only email address listed on their website that said went to everyone - one with our concerns, one with photos and one actually commending their installer who tried installing badly made doors and mentioned the $200 we spent on trim, tape and insulation. A week later and no reply at all, they did call the same day we did finally cancel the door order and said there was still a difference of $200 from what we owed for the install and what we were refunded for the garden door. If your gonna charge top price to do a professional install and to make a correct door you better deliver , and when you fall short you should own it and not ignore it. Look elsewhere for your door need

Sheldon took the time to understand the problem and developed a plan to address it. For the first time in years, we didn't have to shovel the roof, and the ice buildup and leaks were completely resolved. Overall, we had an excellent experience and would confidently recommend Reds Roofing & Renovations to others.

We knew the interlocking planks that are so popular now would never work over all the bumps. Really happy to find these luxury vinyl glue-down planks at Jungle Jim's. They are super tough and really comfortable underfoot. Plus really great looking. We have a large dog with sharp toenails - and I have not seen any marks from his nails. Installation was fast. We were moving furniture back in the same day. There were a couple of things that needed fixing. One was a plank that wasn't staying down correctly (I think it was just a little too tight) and one was a pattern issue (I didn't like a repeated pattern at my front door). They sent back one crew member who fixed it all. They are able to take up single planks, which makes it easy to make changes. If something does ever damage the floor, it is good to know that they can easily replace the planks. We love it so much that we are having them do our kitchen, too.
