Did an excellent job for me knowledgeable and competent. Thoughtful. Pleasant, and we'll priced with a challenging task.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I typically don't write negative reviews because I understand…read morethat my experience may not reflect the true nature of the establishment. But, my experience with Cookie, the owner of Southern Alterations, was so unprofessional and costly, I felt compelled to warn anyone else who may be considering working with her. I am still in shock at the way she handled me as a customer, and I am left with unfinished garments that I have to get altered elsewhere. I went in with a pair of jeans and a leather jacket. I wanted to have the jacket fixed (ripped in the back) and the jeans hemmed and taken up in the crotch. Cookie was welcoming and chatty. She offered to save me some money (broke college student here) by having me take out the seams on both garments to save her time so that she would not have to do it. I asked if I should try on the pants first so that I could show her what I wanted, and she urged me to go home and take the seems out first, then come back for the fitting. I did just that - I went home and spent a decent amount of time taking the seams out of both garments. I felt appreciative that she was trying to save me money. I brought them back to her, seams undone. She had me try on the jeans so she could pin me. After trying on the jeans, she tells me that she won't be able to take up the crotch because of the way the jeans were made, but she would still be able to hem them. This fitting took about 10 minutes. She gave me a quote, which included prices for fixing the jacket, hemming the pants, and sewing up the seams that I - per her request - had taken out on the jeans. I was surprised that I had to pay for her to sew up the seams on the jeans because SHE asked me to undo them prematurely, but I agreed because I understood that it would still take time for her to sew them back up. Cookie assured me that my items would be ready for pick up in one week. Shortly after I left, I called cookie to ask if she would just sew up the jeans and hold of on hemming them as I could not afford to do both at the moment. She agreed, saying she understood. 2 weeks later, I receive a text saying that my items are ready for pick up. I responded to Cookie asking what time I could pick up my items and received an unclear response. After calling to clarify, I was met with very rude tone as she requested that I pick them up at a specific time to avoid wasting her time because she is busy (again, I am a student and I also work - I am also quite busy). I tried again a couple days later and was told that I could pick up my items at any time that day. As I am driving to pick up my items, I receive a text at exactly 12:57pm saying that they were closing at 1pm. I had to return home once again without my garments. Once I finally get the chance to pick up my items, I am met with another rude surprise. Cooking returned my items undone, stating that she did not have the time or desire to work on them because she had more expensive projects to do. Both my jacket and my jeans were untouched, seams still undone. I left with my undone garments, confused, upset, and disappointed. A few moments after I left, Cookie began sending me a slew of rude text messages about how I was unwilling to pay her for her services and blamed me for "wanting" to take out the seams (I am still very confused about that - I don't even own a seam ripper, she lent me hers). She even mentioned in her texts that she knew she would get a bad review because she's been in this situation before. I had to ask her to stop texting me. Now, I have to find someone else to sew up the seams on my jeans (extra money that I should not have to spend) and fix my jacket. Lesson learned. I would advise anyone looking for a seamstress/tailor to stay far away from this establishment. There are plenty of others around Greensboro that provide much better service with a higher standard of professionalism.

I had a vintage Members Only leather jacket brought into Cookie to have the headliner refurbished…read more She did a wonderful job on putting in an entirely new headliner, but diminished the value of the jacket by excluding the two inner pockets and the vintage Members Only inside tag(which she threw into the trash) on the new headliner. I spoke with her about it over the phone and she was very unprofessional. She insisted it was all my fault the headliner was done wrong for working through a third person, who I trust and still do. It is not the clients fault that someone is uneducated on how to properly refurbish a vintage clothing item When I went to pick up the pieces of the tag and two pockets(which she had to dig out of the trash). She refused to throw away any scraps left over(all I needed was the two inner pockets and the tag) insisting she had to much work to do. I do NOT suggest taking any VINTAGE or ANTIQUE clothing items to Southern Alterations because of the lack of education in truly refurbishing a headliner or any other sort of material within those types of clothing. I would also want to point out her lack of professional in handling a client.
