I was in here with my cousin who was buying art supplies. I was keeping an eye out for gifts for kids and scored a good few items. It was a spur of the moment kinda thing so I hadn't planned on going and wasn't prepared to purchase any art supplies, not sure what I need, etc but I did walk around the store browsing. The selection is huge and cannot be compared to like hobby lobby (that's turned basically into a home goods store). This is a legitimate art supply store. Placed a store pickup order for some art supplies because the prices seemed reasonable when i was looking online. They said they had alot of customers in the store so they couldnt process my payment over the phone so i didnt know my total and i expected to pay the prices listed online. When i went to pick up my order at the store, the price was more expensive and the total was like a big difference than what it said i would pay when i originally placed my order. Been to this location a couple of times when I was looking for specific things. They have a lot of good fine art items. Things related to drawing, painting, etc. First time I went into the store, I was looking in particular for a portable/small watercolor all inclusive paint set that was only available with the Winsor and Newton brand. It was quite pricey. Second time I was looking for rolls of canvas. They can cut them by the yard. It was very affordable. They have both primed and unprimed canvas rolls. I went for the unprimed canvas as it was more loose and not as stiff as the primed one. The project I need it for works better with the loose canvas. I got a yard which cost around $7. I also was looking for dry erase markers but they didn't really have any? So I went with the wet erase marker. The store associate helping me was really helpful in answering my questions and giving suggestions. I've also purchased online before and I got their name brand canvas. Wasn't too big a fan of the quality and strength of it. I'm open to trying a different canvas from them if they have it but I wouldn't go with the first ones I bought. They had a really good sale on them though. In the end it wasn't tough/strong enough for what I needed. I love arts and crafts stores. I could go in and get lost for a long period of time. The staff were really helpful. I like the store overall. Their prices can be a bit on the higher side in general. If you are looking for certain things in particular, they can be great. They do also have sales from time to time in which you can get good deals on some of the items. read more

I came in here 5 minutes before closing. Shame on me, right? But the girls who work here were SO helpful and gracious. They pointed me right at what I needed. They even helped me sign up for a student discount account and I was still out the door before 7! Amazing. They left me with a huge smile on my face. 10% discount for students and teachers is a great benefit, and really nice of them considering that this probably constitutes a significant chunk at some of their stores. The store is spacious and well lit, and it wasn't very crowded, which is nice. They were quick to welcome me into the store and offer me any help I needed. They have quite a wide variety of choices. I was amazed how many colors of poster board they had alone! One pro tip - their big bags are SUPER useful and really durable. Some of the best reusable bags I've had! Been coming to DB since I was a kid when they were located off of Alpharetta hwy. The service is always excellent and the staff is always knowledgeable. Ya you can go to Michael's or other crafty places but only Dick Blick staff can tell you the difference between a 2B and a 2H pencil and which notebook paper will not bleed through fountain pen ink! This DB is located between Highway 92 and Mountain Park Road. There is a Chick Fit A, Chase, Panera Sake Japanese Steak house and Sushi nearby. Across the lot there is a Target, A Sally Beauty, Tj MAxx, The Fresh Market and a Hallmark shop with a small post office inside. The staff is always very very helpful and they are more then willing to walk around and help you find exactly what you need (even if you don't know what you need yourself). I only knocked them down to 4 stars because I wish there was more people working usually. I go there a lot and always end up having a small wait if I need help. Literally just left this store 25 minutes ago. I do not know the type of customer to whom they show basic politeness, but I am decidely NOT that customer. There was an item that I could not find--conte crayons. I finally found a salesperson to ask, but she was busy and could not be bothered to acknowledge that I was waiting. Another salesperson walked by and I tried to make eye contact. She intentionally lowered her head to avoid any eye contact. I raised it to 4 stars because once I was able to get to Blicks to shop, even though the hours are inconvenient, I was impressed by the employees insisting shoppers wear masks, use hand sanitizer, the constant cleaning of the carts, the cleanliness of the store, the one way lanes and insistence people use them correctly. I have been looking for supplies for a calligraphy class I am taking. I was unable to find everything on the supply list in Suwanee, so I had to travel to Roswell's Blick Art Materials. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by a very nice young man, I think his name was Matthew. I asked him about the items I had been unable to find. He proceeded to walk me directly to some of the things I needed. We hit a bump when we had to find the size nibs that were required. This is the newly relocated branch of the Dick Blick that used to be right off the Roswell Square. It's much easier to get to now, not being blocked off at a busy intersection in a lot by itself, though I'm not sure I'd recommend trying too hard to get here anyway. Dick Blick is freakin' expensive. Their cheapest canvases run higher than you can find at other places like Mary Ann or even WalMart. Their paints too--- you'd need a good couple hundred bucks to get a decent set of supplies if you had none and wanted the basic colors. Basically everything here is a little higher than it should be. They do have a damn good selection though, and the quality of their products is definitely high. If you're willing to spend a chunk, they probably have what you want here, but if you're a hobbyist its going to hit you in the wallet. In addition to all the basic art supplies, they have everything you can imagine needing, from button maker machines to easels to sculpture material and so on. This particular location has even more than the other Blicks I've been to, and is about twice the size. read more

The entire Design Center is impressive, and I watched a variety of work cross the desk. There's a team of pros helping customers (artists and fans, alike) to get their art ready. But for God's sake, if someone calls ahead looking for a specific brand/item, please make sure you have the item before that person drives an hour to pick up that item. I was looking for Floreat picture hangers and the Blick's employee looked and told me they had them. Nope. I arrived to find out he was wrong, they only had Ook products (which I can buy anywhere). The Ook stuff is to Floreat hangers like a 1979 Toyota Corolla is to a brand new Bentley, barely the same thing. I could have had some delivered by Amazon Prime in two days but I like to buy local (if a 55-60 minute drive can be called local) whenever possible. Bit me in the bum this time. read more

Fabulous selection of supplies. The prices are a bit high compared to, say, a Michael's, but the selection is top. This is the store for the "serious artist." That's not to say they don't have some of the cheaper, lower quality brands as well. Just that you'll find some things here that you won't find elsewhere. If you're like me (self-taught), you realize just how much you don't know when you take a trip to Blick. If you're going to be a regular, be sure to join their Membership program. They also have a nice catalog (they recommended I get things delivered to the store so if I had to make a return, it would be covered). Staff is knowledgeable about art and not intimidating. Tell them what you're trying to do, and they'll likely have some great suggestions on how you can accomplish it or things you might want to try out. LOVE this store! Just wish there were one closer to me (Sandy Springs). Their newest location does beat the old location as far as quantity and variety of products, though. read more

Good selection of art supplies that can satisfy the needs of a student or a professional. Deep selection means multiple brands and price points. The staff is generally helpful and friendly. Small selection of unique general merchandise and gift items fall in to the "I've never seen this before" category. Their high/low pricing structure can be a bit annoying - if canvas is on sale you may want to stock up because regular shelf price can be staggering. If you need supplies on a regular basis best thing to do is join their continuity program which generates percent off emails and through the mail discounts. Not too impressed with this outfit when it comes to framing. Let me pre-phase this review by saying I have used quite a few framing outfits over the years without any issues. For buying art supplies this store is good. For framing projects, not so good. Let me start out by saying that they are one of the few local shops that will take a Photoshop or other file and print it and frame it. And they use Photoshop so if you have adjustments needed they can do that. However, it stops there. I had three projects I took them, lured in by a 50% off promise on the framing. Let me say I think part of their issue is there are too many cooks in the kitchen. The first two projects came out horrible, I will chalk that to inexperience in frame choices and a bad decision on mat/frame choice. They agreed to redo it. But the third project was a straight-forward picture to frame. The framing choices were spot on and a proof of the print was available at the time of the order. The only problem was the proof was not cut to size. Having dealt with framers in the past. I logically assumed they would cut the extra on the sides to 1/2" revealed by the mat in the frame. Something told me I better go back the next day and make sure they understand that. I went back the next day and the people in the store were rude. I showed them an example of another framed picture almost the same configuration and using similar colors. Showing them the older framed picture, I told them to crop the extra on the sides and was reassured by the attendant at the time they would do this. It took them almost 6 weeks to get back with me. I looked at the framed picture later that evening as something didn't look right. I realized one side was 1" and the other was 1 1/4" showing the excess white, not the 1/2" , WTH???? I am so done with these people. They really don't proof their work and they don't follow up. I spent the next month having all three pictures redone by another firm. read more

I was looking for a special color, they told me its out and I should order online (???) the lady was not able to find me an alternative brand. I found it, after I looked around a bit. Yeah, where to begin; I usually order from Blick online, in order to avoid exactly what happened on my one and only visit to this retail location. I order 2x 1 liter containers of a hard-to-find ink thinking A. it would be convenient to just go and pick up and I'll save on shipping and B. Support the locals. After the ink arrives, I get a call alerting me of it's arrival. This is fine until i realize just in fact HOW far it is (32 miles from me) and really, i'd spend as much on gas as i would on them to just ship it ground from their store - so, I call asking that they ship it ground and apparently, some random person who supposedly doesn't work there and just likes answering ringing phones for kicks, takes my call, tells me it will be 6.00 to ship and will arrive the following day. I ask for her to take my card number to charge me for both the ink and the shipping, i provide my shipping address and the call ends with me believing my ink will arrive the following day - doesn't show....next day: doesn't show - so I call asking: "hey someone was supposed to ship me my ink days ago and it hasn't arrived - can you help me find it?" - clerk: "We don't ship from the store, you'd have to order online to get items shipped directly to you." - i then go on about how i had an entire conversation with someone who seemed like they knew what they were doing, that they took my card number, my address and knew what my items were and yet, this ghost of a human being doesn't work at this location and they aren't allowed to ship as it is. Anyway, I go to pick it up and turns out it's 17.00 more than what it would've been buying it online (the full cost of shipping and then some would've been cheaper) -Since i was never informed it would be more, I was pissed and just wanted to buy my inks and get the hell out of there, then I'm told I could be given a 10% discount for my trouble which I accepted gladly to an annoyed sigh from the clerk - then she gives me my card back and says she needs to refund me and get authorization in order to give me the 10% back and huffs her way to her phone to call her manager at which point I had just had enough and left her to her miseries. I would've been fine with it and just left and dealt with it but her sarcastic 'Have a nice day!' on the way out kept me furious all the way home and here I am now, writing about it. Giving them the 1 star they barely deserve. So yeah, if you live in the middle of nowhere (outside the perimeter), enjoy being mislead, having your card information practically stolen and then getting sass from shop girls, this is the place for you. I was specifically looking for bookbinding materials and found a fair selection, but they were out of Binders Board, which they usually stock by the sheet. Went in for a quick pick up of supplies already selected on the internet and, of course, they do not carry the item in the store. Instead I was suckered into purchasing items similar to what I needed costing more (typical bait and switch)--a waste of time and money. BUT the real waste of money at Blicks is the loss of $75.00 it cost me to park. They have "parking bandits" employed to sit outside watching you get out of your car and go in the Midtown location, then they boot your car and charge you $75 to get your car back. BUYER BEWARE! The staff at this location are just great. Recently had need for some materials for laminating with some raw walnut burl. After ruining my first piece by using information on the internet I popped in here to see if any advise could be given. While not able to give specifics they did try and offer a number of suggestions and also let me try the photo mounting thing that uses heat and glue. In the end I found a great method and they had the items I needed at 1/2 the price of what Michaels craft stores were selling for. read more
