However, I feel it's important to share how positive my experience with Jacob Basta has been so far. The biggest difference for me has been communication and genuine care. Jacob has been incredibly responsive and accessible. Whether I reach out by email, text, or phone, he consistently gets back to me--even outside normal business hours. More importantly, I never feel dismissed or like I'm just another case number. My experience with my previous workers' compensation attorney was unfortunately the complete opposite. I often felt dismissed, frustrated, and hopeless, and there were situations where I felt like I had to figure things out on my own. Switching attorneys to Jacob was one of the best decisions I've made during this process, and he made the transition remarkably easy. Since taking over my case, Jacob has been proactive in addressing issues that arose as my situation developed, including additional problems related to the physical demands of my job. He has helped make the process of getting appropriate medical attention and treatment much easier to navigate. There was also a significant employment-related issue that came up during my case. Without going into the details publicly, I felt that my position had been mischaracterized, which resulted in me being taken off work and losing benefits. Rather than simply telling me to handle the situation myself, Jacob took action, pursued the matter through the appropriate legal process, and ultimately helped resolve the dispute so that I received the benefits I was entitled to and had a path forward regarding my employment. I've also gone through a video deposition, and Jacob was there with me throughout the entire process. Having someone knowledgeable in my corner during something that can be extremely intimidating made a huge difference. My case is not completely resolved yet, so I can't speak to the final outcome. But I can absolutely speak to the representation I've received so far, and it has been phenomenal. Workers' compensation can be an incredibly difficult process. I met with Gary and Sal and we came up with the fees and started the work. Did I get canceled on or have to wait in the conference room for 15 minutes at times, sure, but that's not why I'm writing this. Once the books were "scrubbed" from the other accountant, the taxes were done. After I received notice that everything was done, I received an email from Gary asking for more money, which took me by surprise since we already worked out pricing. Once I told him I wasn't agreeable to pay more (he should've just told me ahead of time things took longer than expected, although there were never any delays). From that point on it was nothing but unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful attitudes from Gary, Sal & Ana. I tried getting my QuickBooks backup file to avoid paying $800 to have the new firm bring them to date...but Capata is telling me they don't have them. I don't have my own QB software, so were the books even worked on? A chargeback for the amount they charged me for bookkeeping will be next. I speak with a lot of business owners about their frustrations with CPA firms. Do yourself a favor and move on from this nightmare company. **UPDATE** As soon as the reviews went live, we received calls from Managing Partners, Supervisors, and people I never even met at CAPATA. Within 24 hours we had access to our QuickBooks backup files, which is all we wanted in the first place. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE BEEN SLAMMED WITH NEGATIVE REVIEWS FROM CAPATA, BEEN HARRASSED DAILY TO REMOVE OUR NEGATIVE REVIEWS, ETC., If they would've spent a fraction of this time getting my QuickBooks files, we wouldn't be having these issues. My old CPA was just not getting it done. Never knowing what I owe until a few days before the deadline and having to scrabble to come up with $80k in 48 hours isn't fun.... but with CAPATA, I feel like I always know where I stand quarterly. We obtained them as our CPA for Individual with S.Corp Partnership. I would say obtained services but I did all the tax prep, data entry and better ways to max deductions, still unsure what services they provided that cost $1300.00, which I requested a copy of the invoice that I've yet to receive. They made a HUGE error on our estimated tax payments for 2022 which has resulted in us owing $30k for 2022, along with multiple accounting errors/discrepancies on the 2021 filed return. I emailed them the specific amount to use to formulate the 2022 estimated payments for distribution income. Instead, Folkers used their own report and based it off "2021 statutory requires" which only reflected 3 months worth of distributions. There is more that 3 months in a year and they didn't catch this error prior to filing and shockingly this was reviewed by 2 different associates. I'm not a CPA but since they were again having me do the tax prep that is how I found their error. I understand mistakes happen. I wanted to work on a solution, better understand how this error happened and ways to prevent future errors. I emailed them to confirm that what I found was indeed an error on their end as I provided the email I sent telling them the monthly distribution amount to use for 2022 estimated tax payment. After a couple hrs, I received a call from R.M. asking for some additional information (I didn't have access to or wasn't ready- K1) to see if there were solutions to lower the $30k owed. Our conversation started to take a turn as I was wanting to discuss how they missed this, why wasn't it questioned/evaluated/executed correctly. I only expressed concern in my tune during this conversation and explained I'm not angry, mad, I just want to understand. R.M responded "I don't think we can meet your expectations" then proceeds to tell me "the conversation is done" "I have other clients I need to get to" even after hearing that I still tried to reschedule our call for a day he is available and he absolutely refused. This validates everything I said in my opening statement. Folkers & Associates has unethically walked away using "unable to meet our expectations" as their reason and knowingly left us in the middle of tax season with a HUGE TAX DEBT we originally expressed and wanted to prevent when we hired them!

Many of my students became their clients, which was great for their business--thanks to me. Fast forward to 2024, when I experienced a life-changing car accident. I had to pause their services temporarily because I wasn't sure if I'd even be able to work again, let alone pay for taxes. After a few months of recovery, I was ready to restart our services. But instead of welcoming back a loyal, long-term client, I was slapped in the face with an outrageous demand: my rate would jump from $610 a month to $995 and they insisted I prepay the remainder of the year and all of 2025--an insane total of $9,760! It honestly felt like they just wanted to fire me as a client. To make things worse, they marked my business as SUSPENDED after terminating me as a client. Oh and wait, when I asked to speak to the owner, Louie Vasquez, someone I had trusted for years, they flat-out told me he doesn't handle this anymore and I wouldn't be able to talk to him. After everything I had done for this company, they didn't even have the decency to let me have a conversation with the person I had worked with from the start. This company clearly doesn't care about loyalty, nor do they value their long-standing clients. They're more interested in squeezing as much money out of people as they can. If you're looking for a company that cares about you or your business--look elsewhere.
