We were suing for our deposit which was never returned or communicated about, as well as labor for installing a new roof on the residence, and damages from that leaky roof. We moved out of state, that is why we had to find a lawyer to do the lawsuit instead of just handling it ourself. John Terry told us that he believed he could get us the maximum amount allowed as well as having an attorney fees paid. There was ery little communication over the first 6 months, especially since the opposing attorney asked for continuances twice, but over the last two months there was a lot of back and forth between both attorneys. charging us almost $400 each time to negotiate a settlement and send us an email if we want to agree to the settlement. The night before we were supposed to drive the 6 hours to Indiana for the hearing, he told my husband they reached an agreement but Mr. Terry did not give the details or send anything in writing, only telling my husband that it was less than what we had asked for and more than what our landlord's attorney had originally offered. We did not see the final agreement until AFTER the hearing had already been canceled. The final settlement did not include attorney fees at all, and was one third of what we had originally asked for. When my husband called him and said that that is nowhere near what we wanted that we would rather gone to trial, Mr Terry told him that it would cost another $800 up front to start the process ALL OVER AGAIN. So at the end, we ended up paying out more in attorney fees to John Terry then what we took away. do not go to this man for any kind of small claim suits, he pushed the settlement so HE did not have to go to trial and I know that we had the means to beat our landlord at trial.
