Minocqua Winter Park

Minocqua Winter Park

(7 reviews)

My bf and I went up to Minocqua for a mini-getaway weekend. He went snowboarding up at Indian Head,…read morebut I decided to just stay in the cabin. Tumbling down a mountain and breaking limbs really isn't my thing. However, our cabin had a flyer for the winter park nearby and they had tubing! Well, hell, I can do that! It was a long and winding road to get to the park but it was a nice, scenic drive. I was so excited when I saw the giant hill! I've never gone down a hill that big! We went inside the building to buy our tubing ticket, which was about $12 bucks for people over 18. Once we paid, we went out and grabbed one of the many inner tubes sitting outside. Tip: pick one with a pad on the inside, otherwise you'll set yourself up for some major discomfort. The best part of this was that they have a pulley system to take you up the hill. No more dragging your tube up a hill and being exhausted by the time you get up, that you only go up and down three times before you're done for the day. Sure, that may sound lazy, but I'm not 10 anymore. I don't have that kind of energy these days. You take the tube handle, hand it to a dude, and sit your happy butt down in the tube. The attendant will hitch you up and up you go on a three minute ride to the top. There's a couple guys up at the top who are there to let you know when you can go down, and they'll assist you with whatever crazy way you want to go down. The guys were really cool, joking around the whole time but were really helpful. There was a family in front of us wanting to do strange formations and they helped them set it up. They even spun me around a few times. I didn't think they would do that! The ride down is really exhilarating. I advise wearing a scarf around your face because you'll get wind burn pretty good and a bunch of snow in your face. You can also go down pretty fast. Luckily there is a plastic mesh fence at the end to stop you from going further than you should, and the hill slopes so that if you start to go toward the trees, you'll curve back in. On our last run, my bf made us go totally straight and we slammed into the fence, almost knocking it down. Apparently, that's an accomplishment for tubers! Tubing isn't all they have here. The main attraction is probably the cross country skiing. They have tons of trails with varying levels of difficulty. If we had a whole day, and some lessons, we'd definitely try it because the trails look great. The indoor area is great too. They have several benches and tables to rest at and a food/drink area where they serve beer! Mincoqua beer to be exact. $2.50 for a 10 oz glass of beer. What a great way to end the day! If I'm ever back during the winter, I'll definitely be making a stop to this park. You'll have a blast!

Truly some of the most gorgeous trails in the whole country. Especially after a few snowy days…read more Skied a few miles, and even saw an ermine in its winter coat! So cool!
