Captain Joel took me out May 8. I booked a tarpon trip through an agency. When I showed up I told…read morehim lets go catch fish; if conditions are not right for tarpon we can catch whatever is biting. He took us to a wreck site and we were catching fish within minutes. 30 plus pound black tuna, 4 mutton snapper, 1 king fish and 1 large crevalle jack. We had a shot at a sail fish too. It was non-stop action with multiple fish on at once. Once my arm was sore and the tide was coming in we went after tarpon. We had a couple bites but did not land one. I was done before time was up. He cleaned the fish, bagged them and gave me advice on storage and prep. It was a great time and he was working the whole time. Great setup and good gear. Next time I go, I will definitely call him.

We spotted dolphins, that even Captain Jeff missed, and spent the bulk of the day fishing, Quickly catching our lunch. Captain Jeff was patient and helpful throughout. We couldn't reel in the "big" one but we all definitely tried! Once back on land we took our cleaned fish to the restaurant right there, inviting Captain Jeff to join us. There is something to be said about a captain that works by himself and shows pride in his work. Not many guides can ask you what fish you want to catch and then deliver which he did on multiple times. Great company, clean boat and great pricing. If you wanna catch fish in Key West, look no further! However, call him sooner than later as he gets booked early! Cheers!

Captain Paul D'Antoni is the best! This guy can fish! Captain Paul runs a light tackle inshore…read moreboat out of Garrison Bite in Key West. His rig is a 25 foot center console with a new engine, clean, well maintained and safe. He was set up for any kind of fishing I might have wanted to do (except flats, as he doesn't run a flats boat). He had new Penn rods and reels and he had rigs for everything from heavy duty tuna, tarpon or shark fishing to light rigs for smaller snapper in shallower water. He had a live bait well that again was stocked with bait for everything from snapper to Tuna including a bunch of goggle eyes! I wanted to fish tarpon, as I had never caught one. When we started the tide was slack so we busted way out to 200 feet of water and looked for sailfish. The sails were not having it so we dropped deep on an airplane wreck and pulled up two fat AJs. The tide back inshore was turning so we headed back for the maincourse- the tarpon. I hooked and lost a tarpon in the first 30 seconds- I kid you not! 30 seconds after he positioned the boat with the other tarpon boats and started chumming I had a fish on and lost. What can I say, it was my first time.... Not to fear! He had several rods all rigged to go so he just handed me a second Penn conventional and a hunk of bait and within 3 minutes I had another fish on. This one I landed. Holy crap Tarpon can fight. In all I landed 7! And I hooked and fought one for 20 before I lost him for a total of 9 fish that I hooked. 9 tarpon in 3-4 hours! As estimated by Captain Paul (because by Florida law you can't pull the Tarpon outta the water) the smallest was 50lbs and the biggest was 70lbs- and for sure was a in the water measured 4'8". I'm sure the one I lost was 250lbs (HA! ;-) ) My left arm was completely blown out from fighting the fish, my back was sore, my triceps ached. Clearly I need to go to the gym more often if I am going to try for that many huge fish in a matter of hours. Capt. Paul was personable, professional and runs a great operation. He was a pleasure to chat with, and had a huge knowledge of the local fishing. You could tell from the radio chatter that the other charter captains like and respect him- they all wanted to know what and where he was fishing and what he was using. He was cool with my non-fishing wife coming along for the ride and when the fishing slacked off he agreed to run her all the way back into town to drop her so she could shop and than ran me out for more adventures. A lot of charter captains would not have wanted to waste the gas for that sort of a run.
