My husband and I got married 11/09/2019 and used Blackstone Catering. I loved them and will recommend them to anyone ever for everything. First, the communication was amazing. Danielle was prompt, always available by email, clear in all her communications and kind. The food, I mean what can I say, there's a reason they're number onE in the state and the Bachelor stars used them for their fancy Newport Wedding. The apps are where they're at. Everyone has bacon wrapped scallops but somehow Blackstone made them new and interesting? They're like nott just wrapped around the side but also top aNd bottom and crispy. People Started waiting outside the door at my wedding to get them before theyeven left the kitchen. People rave about my cocktail hour. I am so happy with it! They also were able to accomadate my request for different sides than their menu stated so I got risotto WITH my chicken! Yay. As for the veggie option, my guest ended up picking that dish the most since it was pumpkin ravioli! I didn't expect that to be the most chosen entree! The tasting was private and gorgeous. You have your own literal room with a set table and d Danielle went over everything with the moms and us and kept giving up drinks. Amazing. I had 3 issues over the year and a half planning time and honestly they were all resolved quickly and annoyed me for barely 10 mins. I am mentioning them because it's how a company responds to issues that shows their commitment to the customer. Each of these issues was revolved happily in a timely matter. Except number 3 because this is my first time mentioning it and honestly I don't care. First small issue is that when me and my mom and then separately my father and law went to drop off booze all the way in Middleton, no one was at the building to recieve it even though we were told to stop by any weekday. We left it outside on the stoop and the office is in a secluded enough area that there was no issue and I received confirmation later that day they brought it in.. second, I recognize there was an accident that backEd up traffic on 95, but my wedding was not set up at 2pm when I arrived for the 4pm ceremony. So instead of concentrating on photos I felt like I needed to direct everyone at 245 when they finally got there. They finished setting up barely before guest arriveD and while checking everything was correct (it was) many guest saw me in my dress before the ceremony. Thirdly is just a little odd? The catering boys all signed my guest board?! I mean they didn't write anything weird but what waiters sign thE guest board??? I can see some brides being really upset with that. Overall I highly recommend them for anyone looking for luxury and easy planning process. Everything is taken care of for you and they don't have a stupid 20% administration fee which is why I choose them over Russell Morin. Danielle is great, I recommend asking for her. My husband and I hired Blackstone to cater our rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks in Newport Rhode Island at the Tennis Hall of Fame this past October (2022). We booked them a full year in advance. Overall, the experience was pitiful for the price. I would not recommend Blackstone to anyone. I have worked with many caterers in my life - both for professional and personal events - and have never seen a more ill-equipped team nor a more deplorable owner and manager (whose name is Karen). The food, service and staff fell short of quite literally every one of our expectations. For starters, the staff passing the wine couldn't tell our guests what was on their trays - whether it was a Pinot or a Cab...whether it was a Chardonnay or a Sauvignon Blanc, etc. Not a great first impression. We quickly noticed a similar trend when the hors d'oeuvres were passed. When asked, some of the staff couldn't tell guests what they were serving nor could they say whether they met certain dietary restrictions (which the staff had knowledge of ahead of time). So all the people who had noted restrictions and allergies were unable to eat any of the hor d'oeuvres because Blackstone didn't think to prepare anything for them. To emphasize how poorly prepared and knowledgeable the staff was, I kid you not, when asked about a Burratta and mushroom toast, the staff member carrying the tray told a guest "I believe it's cheddar cheese and mushroom." What caterer doesn't know what they're serving. On top of that, many of the passed hors d'oeuvres were luke warm at best. The quality, taste and amount of food we had for the price was rather pathetic and the service was even worse. If you look at their Facebook you can see they are constantly looking to hire new people to work their events who want to "earn extra money" - these folks are clearly inexperienced, but sadly, even some of the individuals working our event that appeared to be seasoned, weren't so seasoned or knowledgeable. When we called the owner Karen to speak about our experience, it was like talking to a defensive teenager. Karen had virtually no sympathy and instead offered excuse after excuse for what took place. You can't do better than Blackstone for your wedding! Blackstone Caterers, and Danielle Costa impressed us from the very beginning. I knew of Blackstone because many weddings our family has been to, used Blackstone. But, of course there are other caterers that are well known - the two premiere caterers in Rhode Island for weddings appear to be Russel Morin and Blackstone. We got quotes from Russell Morin, Blackstone, and Emerys Catering. Let me explain why we went with Blackstone, and why I am so glad I did: First Meeting: At the Newport Bridal Show in Winter 2020, many wedding vendors had booths. But Blackstone just nailed their "booth". They had this beautiful set up, no detail forgotten, with champagne glasses and very friendly, professional and informative employees. I was impressed. Contract & Communication: Of all quotes I received, the value of Blackstone was the best. The food selections were the best. They even did a champagne toast and cake cutting! And they were always prompt in communication, which is very important to me. Tasting: Staff was professional, food was phenomenal, presentation was top notch. And they of course offered us as much wine as we desired! It was a wonderful experience! And they use PEAK event services for linens, etc - and made the selection process so easy! Wedding: Again... nailed it! We got married at The Towers in Narragansett, and didn't have a wedding planner. I wasn't sure if I needed to worry about one, but it was fine! Blackstone took care of everything. We dropped off our table signs & name cards in the venue, and they set everything up! They cooked onsight, and executed everything flawlessy. They probably could have done it with their eyes closed, they are that good. A member of the Waitstaff introduced themselves to us and kept checking on us to if we needed a drink. When we went outside to take photos, they came outside to bring us water! And Danielle showed up to make sure everything was ok. We just so impressed with their professionalism and hospitality. I have to agree w/Jake K. I too had Blackstone Caterers for my daughter's wedding at Blithewold-no other choice as that is the only option when you book through Blithewold. I asked for 3 bartenders and because the other 2 bartenders or catering manager thought it wasn't that busy of a reception, stuck the 3rd bartender in the back to help the kitchen staff. I paid extra for this service. The female bartender was also not a pleasant person as well they ended up serving Pinot Gris when on the contract it said they were to serve San Blanc. When I contacted Karen the owner of the company the next day, she replied "do you want me to send you some wine?" Blackstone is incredible. They've been great to work with from the initial concept and layout of our wedding to the tasting, to logistics, to the service at our wedding to the rave reviews all of our guests had about the food, they've been so easy and fun to work with. Karen T was so helpful and thoughtful during our planning process and allowed us to bring my wife's mother along for our tasting. While I thought the tasting was going to be hard to beat, the food and service our wedding was even better. They had hors d'oeuvres and drinks waiting for our bridal party immediately after the ceremony which everyone loved and appreciated (we killed 3 platters of lobster roles alone). Our guests not only raved about the meal but also how professional and impeccable the service was all night. They even made sure that my wife and I each got two of the appetizers and two of the desserts at our table which was a great touch. Incredible. We'd already enjoyed Blackstone's food and outstanding service at two other weddings, so it was almost a foregone conclusion that we'd use them on our big night. My wife and her sister did 99% of the planning for our wedding, so I'm reviewing from the perspective of someone who was more or less along for the ride. The girls worked out everything through the various planning stages Danielle from Blackstone, who was a real pro. Every time they had a question, concern, or need from clarification, they always felt better after speaking to Danielle. We're talking dozens and dozens of emails and phone calls over and 8 month period: every time Danielle would say "Don't worry, we've got it covered" or "Just relax, it's not a problem.....we'll take care of it." And she did. I did go to a food tasting which my fiance particularly enjoyed. The food was delicious and it was served in a comfortable setting. And the service was great. With so many great options, we had a really hard time narrowing down the menu. We almost had to flip a coin just debating the salad options. At the wedding itself we were blown away. Our friends raved about the food -- particularly the appetizers. I'm sure Blackstone offers bacon wrapped scallops and the like, but we found some less traditional appetizer options like mini crabcakes, mini chicken quesadillas, and a chowder and clamcake demitasse (which was an especially big hit). The entrees were also very well received, particularly the oven roasted cod with lobster crepes. This is so far above typical catering food. The last thing I'll mention is the service, which was absolutely incredible. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant or more accommodating for the entire night. I felt like I had a personal assistant for the day because every time I turned around there was a nice girl (who one of the other servers told me was "Nikki") with a fresh drink for me. There were all kinds of thoughtful little touches around our table, like a little appetizer board in case we were too busy greeting our guests during cocktail hour. I own three retail stores and I say with confidence that Blackstone has world class customer service. We had some personal requests that were handled with ease, and every staff member we encountered made us feel like it was their pleasure to make sure we had an epic night. There was a small situation involving some misplaced bottles of champagne in the bridal suite, which Blackstone took care of promptly, even though it had nothing to do with them. One finishing touch: we took a beach walk past The Towers (our wedding venue) on the night after our wedding. Blackstone was catering another wedding on site and several of the staff members were cleaning up the fountain area as the reception got started. They spotted us in our street clothes and walked out to the sidewalk to say hello us and thank us. We couldn't believe it. Don't think twice about hiring Blackstone to cater your wedding. From our initial tasting two years ago, to our wedding reception this past Sunday, Blackstone provided by far the most outstanding quality, service and attention to detail from any caterer in Rhode Island. Dismayed at the nay-saying caterers who told me I couldn't have carving stations at my wedding for my price point, Blackstone not only delivered, but delivered in style. From the presentation of the menu offerings at our tasting, we were hooked. Attention to detail was paid to flavors as well as aesthetics. On the day of our wedding, we were treated like royalty, and even given hors d'oeuvres in the bride room, while we waited to make our entrance, so as to not miss out on the fabulous selection. Our server was extremely attentive, and an absolute angel. She even helped us pack the cars as we were leaving. Over a year ago, after a long search we found the Glen Manor and fell in love. Previously we had lists of pros and cons of wedding venues but when we experienced the Glen we simply asked where to sign. The catering staff were setting up and we asked which company they worked for. They replied, "Blackstone" with a joyous sense of pride. That night we Googled the company and were overwhelmed with their accolades, website, and delectable offerings. While we were not previously aware of the brand, it seems they have an incredible faithful following as many of our friends and family knew of them as the premier caterer for all of greater Newport. They have even catered for President Obama! I quickly reminded my food connoisseur partner, that the best food in the world would come at a cost and so we braced for the initial email response from the cater on pricing. To our relief, they were able to accommodate our budget. Anyone considering a Newport wedding will certainly need to set realistic expectations no matter whom they choose. That being said, they can tailor a menu from an extravagant several course sit down meal to a simpler beautiful buffet. My husband and I are both meticulous planners and typically take control of every aspect in our jobs in lives. With a wedding their is simply too much to worry about every detail. Thankfully, we simply shared them our vision, and they filled in the blanks using their years of experience to turn that dream into a reality. Our main contact Karen, exudes energy and passion. When you walk into a room, she lights up to see you as if you were a present on Christmas day or a long lost friend. The moment we met her, we knew Blackstone was the right choice for us. Honestly, of all our amazing vendors, she left the largest impression. The owner also warmly greeted us at our first meeting. We reserved Blackstone over a year in advance, and they were always available to answer any questions via email or phone that we had as the day grew closer. Karen worked with us to prepare a wonderful tasting menu that we were able to invite our close family to. The day of the wedding their was a glitch with the florist, and without missing a beat Blackstone stepped in to help resolve that issue without ever worrying us. While one might consider a cater to only deal with food, they had their hand in nearly all aspects of the day and worked in perfect harmony with the venue care taker like Jennifer Lopez in the Wedding Planner. The food was fantastic and our guests are still raving about it. The clam chowder was mouth watering and the corn soufflé tasted like angels swimming through a cloud and gluten free and vegetarian options galore. Everyone warned us that you never get to eat at your own wedding. Not the case at Blackstone. We actually had a personal waiter who appeared out of thin air at the exact moment we needed a drink or a bite to eat. Christine the event manager for the day of the wedding was a bundle of joy. Often managers get the work done but their obvious stress fills the room. Not so with Christine. She was always smiling and if there were any issues, she must have resolved them before they happened because we and our guests never noticed a single slip. They deserve more stars than there are in the sky. We could carry on for longer than Beowulf, but the more we reminisce the more hungry we get. So after picking your venue, your next decision should always be the caterer. Our wedding could have been a disaster, COVID really tried. Karen and Nicole allowed us to have a small, safe and stunning wedding that for a while felt like the world was almost back to normal (with stylish masks of course!). They are arranged everything beforehand and even helped to set up our details, they made sure everything ran smoothly, on time and then packed up our car so we literally did nothing as the bride and groom or even bridal party, just sat back and enjoyed the gourmet meal our guests could not stop gushing about, the incomparable atmosphere and the magic in the air. Unfortunately due to Covid my daughters wedding in June of 2020 was unable to take place. Blackstone has been unable to reschedule due to ongoing restrictions and has since offered to reschedule in 2022! Problem is that Blackstone had offered to refund the majority of the $12,000 deposit which included the event hosting at Blithewold Mansion which their Blackstone also manages. They have since rebuffed our requests for a refund and reneged on their initial indication they would. They now insists we reschedule in 2022! Say What? My daughter is married now and has moved away to start their new lives together. We the parents have also moved out of state. Who wants to have another wedding 2 years after the original. On the bright side we had a very nice family only wedding ceremony for her and her fiancé in June which cost a bunch of $ to have at our home. We have done our best to try and negotiate with them to no avail! To make matters worse much of the deposit money was paid out of pocket by the newly weds who just finished grad school and had worked & planned throughout that time saving for this event which never happened! Not sure how Blackstone & Blithewold can feel good about taking 12k of these kids money having provided absolutely no services? My daughter was devastated to not have a wedding as planned with friends and family and to add insult to injury these people literally robbed them. Hard to fathom that we will need to seek legal recourse and could not have worked this out amicably. read more

I very seldom write reviews, however, I wanted to take a moment to compliment Blackstone Caterers and Shannon Driscoll, in particular, for an outstanding job on my daughters wedding which was held at Rosecliff. From our first contact with them (Shannon) right through to the completion of the event they were totally professional and spot on with everything. They delivered as promised! Shannon was great to work with. Spent hours with us during the tasting to make sure we were happy with all our selections, she followed up all through the process leading up to the wedding, gave advise on various things regarding the venue and Newport in general. Actually functioned as a wedding planner. The night of the event the food, drinks, service and attention to detail were flawless. Could not have asked for a better experience. Went to Newport Film event at Rosecliff in Newport last night catered by Blackstone caterers. There were two bars set up, which ran smoothly. Their passed hors d'oeuvres, however... horrible! We only saw two trays come out & we were in a visible location. Once the second tray appeared, i knew i had to make a run for it and go grab some because we got nothing on the first pass. People were like vultures because they had a completely inadequate amount of food for the event (especially serving alcohol). We paid $40 for these tickets and got a single chicken skewer. Had to stop at another restaurant on the way home. I was at an event about a month ago in Newport at the Newport Tennis Hall of Fame, crochet tournament, which was catered by Decadent Catering. The hors d'oeuvres never stopped coming. Same ticket price, much better food and much more to eat. Blackstone's food was good, but wasnt nearly enough. read more

We used Blackstone for our wedding at the Eisenhower House in Newport RI and they went above and beyond anything I could have imagined. Shannon was our coordinator and she was such a pleasure to work with. She practically took on the role of my wedding planner and guided me along the way. The food was absolutely amazing that people are still talking about it. We opted for family style which gave our guests multiple options and never left them hungry. We also decided to do mini desserts instead of a wedding cake and I'm so glad we did. We chose the mini whoopie pies, canolis, strawberry shortcake and chocolate milkshakes. I have been postponing writing this review because I'm having such a hard time finding words to describe this wonderful team. From day one Karen and the rest of the Blackstone team was incredible to work with. We wanted to do a tasting before booking with any caterer, because we did not want typical wedding food. They worked with us on the cocktail hour food and on the main entrees, to customize everything to what we wanted. As the planning process went on, they helped us work on every little detail. As I didn't have a wedding planner, I really appreciated all the little tips Blackstone gave us. The same can be said for the wedding day: they literally thought of every single little detail to ensure that everyone has a fantastic experience. All our guests were saying that they were blown away my how incredible the food was. And the service was just as fantastic. They especially paid attention to myself and the groom. There was always a glass of champagne in my hand, they put aside food from the cocktail hour for us; sent up drinks before the ceremony, etc. They also helped us set up the cigar and scotch bar; and served our guests with our special wine pairing request. They even provided special desert wine glasses, that the rental company did not have available. As our wedding was on the smaller side (approx. 55 people) - we were concerned that some vendors may not want to spend the time to customize everything. But Blackstone made us feel like our event was the most important one of the year. They cooked traditional ethnic dishes for us that are not typically on their menu to allow us to make our day truly unique. Of course their usual stations were fresh and delicious as well. We had the tuscan table and the raw bar, as well as the cheesecake station. I also wanted to note that Karen went beyond her job as a catering coordinator. We had troubles with our rental company, and she took it upon herself to deal with them, to ensure that I didn't have to stress about anything. She and her team was truly incredible and we can never thank them enough for everything they did for us. All in all, I would absolutely recommend Blackstone for any special event. We started out on the right foot with them - when we decided that we loved their food and the coordinator we had been talking with, we discouragingly told her that they were a bit pricier than we'd planned on. Right away, they worked with us to keep the costs down, while still keeping the details and dishes that we couldn't do without. We always felt they were honest with us about what was important to splurge on and where we could save. Leading up to the wedding, our coordinator, Karen Tungett, was absolutely amazing. She responded to every email and call within 24 hours and was very clear with all of her answers. We always felt like she understood exactly what we wanted and there was NEVER a stupid question in her eyes. Every time I spoke with Karen, I felt more confident about how the wedding would turn out. When we did walkthrus and coordination with other vendors, Blackstone always had a good relationship with them. There were never any conflicts between the venue or any other vendors. It kept the stress level down for sure. On the day of, Blackstone did a great job displaying all of the little details that I had provided and made the venue look beautiful with their own decorations. They also were very helpful in coordinating our ceremony which was located at the reception venue, and made us all more comfortable to have some help on that front. Finally, the food!! The appetizers, meals and desserts were a huge hit. I had many guests telling me that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. The staff was all extremely warm and accommodating to our guests (even the ones spending a bit too much time at the open bar...). They also took great care to make sure the groom and I always had a glass of champagne and/or some food waiting at our place setting whenever we had time for a bite. We had an excellent tasting experience with Danielle at Blackstone and chose them to cater our August 2015 wedding in Providence! Though my fiance and I and both of our families are from New England, we currently live out of state and had to get a lot of wedding planning done in a short trip home. Our first catering tasting was an absolute bust and we were getting nervous that we would not find a caterer on this trip home. Our experience with Danielle, beginning with her quick e-mail responses, squeezing us in over the weekend after Christmas and greeting us with mimosas when we arrived, to her knowledge of the menu and her honesty about everything - including not trying to up sell us on linens and china, was amazing. Despite being winter in RI, all of the fruits and vegetables were fresh. We cannot wait to have Blackstone cater our wedding and we know our guests will be impressed. We left the tasting feeling relieved and with huge smiles on our faces! Today is our 5 year wedding anniversary and as I sit here reflecting back on our wedding day our catering liaison pops into my head... a bit strange right? We had such an amazing reception and Karen was a huge part of it! I could go on and on about how great she was... from the tasting (to die for!) to the actual reception night but sometimes shorter is sweeter. I think the fact that I remember her name 5 years later speaks volumes, compounded by the fact I'm thinking of her on my anniversary! So thank you Karen Conley for the memories... we think about our day often! All the best! read more

Rating as guests at a wedding. Our friends graciously requested vegan apps and food for us at their daughter's wedding. They sought out the catering manager to check on the apps. She arrived with Shrimp and Felafel balls asking "Are you the gluten free people?" Told her no, vegan. She said "Oh!! I thought you were gluten free! Well you can have the felafel!" She visited us again when the dinner stations opened to tell us they could do the wedge salad without dressing (aka iceberg) and pasta with red sauce at the pasta station. Wheee! At least we didn't over eat. Oh, and we were able to take some tomatoes out of the Caprese Salad. I feel badly that our friends were so happy to accommodate us, and paid to, yet the caterer confused vegan with gluten free. How does that happen? We didn't tell them because everything else looked good for the rest of their guests. And we still had food. I cannot say enough positive things about Blackstone Caterers! Everything they did for us for my daughter's wedding was fantastic! The appetizers were amazing.....everyone raved about them! Special favorites were the lollipop lamb chops, the raw bar, mini fish & chips boats, and the mini beef wellingtons. Our guests (and we) were also thrilled with the lobster tails entrée and the herb-encrusted sirloin. Each serving was so carefully prepared, that one would never know you were serving so many at once. And the desserts!!! The crème brulee melted in your mouth; the strawberry shortcake popped; and the whoopee pies were just so much fun!! In addition, Blackstone provided the food for our Rehearsal Sail aboard the Aquidneck. This, too, was fabulous! Kudos to this wonderful caterer and thank you so much for helping to make this fairytale weekend the incredible one that it was. read more

Blackstone will go above and beyond for you. If they're available on your wedding date, book them! They catered our August wedding at the Blithewold Mansion near Newport. Everything was absolute perfection! We worked with Karen and she was a delight and super responsive. They set up all of our tables for the reception. We had lanterns, candles, greenery, and table numbers, as well as seating cards. I was a little worried- would it all be set up correctly? It looked like perfection when we got them, the team at Blackstone are truly professionals. After the ceremony, my wedding party was taking photos and they bought us all over apps and cocktails (since we were missing cocktail hour). When my husband and I sat for dinner there was a plate of every appetizer from cocktail hour there as well (we missed the whole hour for photos), which was a nice surprise. They gave us a point person who was there helping everything run smoothly- though we honestly didn't need to find them once because the whole thing went off without a hitch. All our guests complimented the food as well.. Tip- get the lobster mash potatoes! read more

We shopped around a bit before settling on Blackstone. Danielle at Blackstone is a total professional. From start to finish she made sure she understood our vision, and made everything possible that she could. She literally never once said no to any request or suggestion I made, and if she wasn't able to do something, always had a stellar plan b. So, the service, and the professionalism, above and beyond, A plus. NOW- the food. I am sure we have all been to weddings and the food is a total after thought. Not with Blackstone. The food was literally 5 star. I had people left and right telling me how phenomenal the food was. And several people are still talking about it months later. I think it's rare that you walk away from a wedding, raving about the food, but if you hire Blackstone, that will surely happen. The other awesome thing about BC is they are totally local, seasonal, and on trend. Expect unique options, and interesting flavor mash-ups. BC has been around awhile, as well, so Danielle was able to suggest other vendors to work with. Once I had my team in place, Danielle totally worked one on one with various vendors, which I found to be hugely helpful. We loved every second of working with Danielle and the BC team and would def hire them again in a heart beat! read more

A++++++ service! I worked with Karen and she was by far my favorite vendor. She was incredibly helpful with absolutely everything and went above and beyond to make our day perfect. We had a long engagement so she had to put up with my questions for quite some time, but she was always incredibly patient, helpful, and responsive. She always emails you back within minutes! She even dealt with my mom who was being a bit picky about wine selections :) AND she went out of her way to get my nephew some vanilla ice cream so he could take his pill during the reception. During our reception, she brought us a tray of HD's to the wedding suite since she knew we probably wouldn't get to eat otherwise (true!). And she came over to tell us when the sunset light was perfect for sunset photos, which wasn't even her responsibility but it was so nice that she was looking out for us and we were so grateful that she did! Absolutely PHENOMENAL service. And the food is outstanding. I will sing her praises all day and recommend her to anyone getting married in the area. read more

I feel so lucky to have found Blackstone Caterers for my wedding a few weeks ago. We worked with Danielle Costa, who is a consummate professional, and a lovely person. She did a terrific job at helping us select the food for our dinner and reception, but she did so much more than that! We were having the wedding at our home, and were feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the planning involved. She referred us to several other vendors, coordinated with them on several details, gave great advice on planning, and was there on the day to make sure everything ran smoothly. She listens and cares about each of her clients, and is amazing at what she does! I have been to many fancy weddings and events, and often the food ends up being just so-so. But not the case with Blackstone - the food was truly delicious and unusual too. We got raves about both the food and the service from our guests! The staff was wonderful and also did a terrific job of clean-up, which was important since the event was at my home - there was truly nothing for me to do afterwards. Danielle was calm and smiling throughout the whole process and really put this nervous bride to be at ease. I can't recommend her or Blackstone highly enough - and will definitely be using them for any special occasion! read more
