For the first time in years, we finally had a working pool and hot tub this season, which made such a huge difference. Dustin has implemented many positive changes throughout the park, and Michelle has done a fantastic job planning fun and creative activities for everyone to enjoy. We're sad to see the season coming to an end, but we're already looking forward to next year to see all the exciting new things Dustin and Michelle have planned. You then have 3 options to walk down to the river. One that is stairs straight down and two others that call themselves steep/ rough. Honestly all seem pretty steep! we took one of the side rough trails which was a gradual decline down to the river. Although you had to pay attention to where you were going it wasn't too tough to navigate. The river was a nice reward at the end. We used the other trail to go back up and it seemed more steep and tricky. But fun! I'd say it took about 20 minutes each way. It was a fun little outing!

Since then, she has returned every year and now attends for two separate weeks each summer because she enjoys it so much. What makes this especially meaningful is that she has attended other overnight camps, including Keystone Science School in Colorado and a ski camp in Wisconsin. White Pines is the only camp she has consistently asked to return to year after year. I think White Pines does an exceptional job of helping kids build independence, confidence, friendships, and lifelong memories. The staff creates an environment where children can unplug, try new things, and truly immerse themselves in the camp experience. That said, no camp is going to be the perfect fit for every child. If a camper is expecting all the comforts and conveniences of home, they may need some adjustment time. But for kids who are open to adventure, friendship, and a traditional camp experience, White Pines is something special. Food has never been an issue for my daughter--she's an adventurous eater and has always been happy with the meals. As for the cabins, things like the fans have simply served as comfortable white noise for her. As a parent, there is no stronger endorsement I can give than this: after four years, my daughter still counts down the days until she can return. White Pines has given her experiences, friendships, and memories that will stay with her for a lifetime.

I took some home as I think it would be fabulous on pancakes. The food was not very hot when we got our entrees, for some reason. My husband's cilantro chicken was a little overdone, but he still liked it. He remarked that the red potatoes were especially good. Another friend said that her fish fry was just okay. I truly cannot find the right words to explain how we felt during and after our visit. The hubski and I are bed and breakfast lovers, so about 3 years ago we started looking for a bed and breakfast in Illinois to visit. We found Lincoln soon after we started our search and was impressed with their commitment to the environment and local producers. The rooms looked so dreamy and we also saw that we could have the experience of being beekeepers! I was too excited. We booked our 2 night stay for our anniversary. When we got there, we were warmly greeted by Lisa and her team and they checked us in took us on a little tour of the property and then up to our room (we stayed in the carriage house). We parked our car in the heated garage below the carriage house (each room has a spot in the garage). The carriage house was amazing! A huge balcony, full kitchen, 1 full bath, 1 half bath, a full living room and a king bedroom. It was perfect. Our first night in, we made pan seared salmon in the kitchen and the next morning, Lisa came over with a 3 course breakfast! All local products and tasted sooooooo great! That day we went to the farm which had an apple orchard, chickens that provided our eggs for breakfast and we took a ride in the truck around the farm to see the wild flowers and the bees. We suited up and became beekeepers which was so much fun and after we enjoyed a really good lunch prepared for us and pour our own bottle of honey! This is one experience I will never forget We drove to Dixon that night to have dinner at an Italian restaurant and drove back to settle in and enjoy a nice quiet evening. They leave out cookies in the main building so we ran over and took a few and some milk to enjoy while watching tv. The next morning breakfast was equally amazing and we were so sad that we had to leave but we will be back for sure and hopefully try a room in the main house and going for a hike along the trail super close to the inn. The Foundation and its docents have done a wonderful job as caretakers of this unique story and historic building.
