We wanted a quiet place, where we could rest and take a load off. Man! Did we ever find a hidden gem! The owners were super nice, as well as the seasonal folks who took us for a quick cart ride to see the Fallen Rock. This year, we wanted to get away for 10 days over the 4th of July weekend. We didn't think long before we remembered how much we loved this campground! They were so accommodating! We had the same spot of our one=night visit last year. We met many more of the seasonal folks, and their dogs (we brought ours with us this time!) We have already make a reservation to go in the fall next year for the covered bridge festival. In closing, this is the nicest, cleanest park we have stayed at to date. The owners have obviously put their hearts into this place. They feel like family. Oh, and they put on a fireworks shows that rivals the ones in DC!

There was also lawnmower noise from the park itself and diesel exhaust from the parks vehicles. I understand employees have to do trail maintenance, but electric vehicles should be used. It was noisier in this park than in my backyard. We went into the Inn to cool down for a bit and the ice machine in the lobby sounded like a Mac truck. There was no indication that the inn has exhibits or a wildlife observation room, so we missed that. When we entered the park, we asked the gate keeper which trails were the most scenic. We were directed to the waterfall and the fire watchtower. The water fall is all of ten feet. We climbed all 106 steps to the top of the fire watchtower only to discover that there is no view from the top. All you can see are the trees a few feet in front of you. The entire experience was underwhelming.

I was intruigued, and so we decided to try camping. Whenever we decide to have adventures like this, it is up to me to find the spot. I chose HIckory Hills based on the cost. There wasn't much in the way of pictures, and I wasn't really sure what to look for. We didn't want to 'rough it' too much. I am sort of prissy, and what if I didn't like it? We ended up renting one of their cabins. The cabin had pretty much every amenity of a house. Shower, bathroom, kitchen, full size fridge. It was really nice. We saw quite a few people coming and going on golf carts. From what I can gather, a lot of people in campers stay there year round. It was really quiet the entire time we were there. No loud music, no parties where we were at. They are on well water and it reeked of sulphur. There is a food truck type of thing that opens on the weekend. We ate breakfast there once, and it was okay. Nothing to write home about. I really enjoyed staying here though.

We were labelled as Weekenders, placed in a segregated part of the park. Gold members get less privileges and are charged more than Platinum and your out of luck if you fall into the Silver tier. I should have insisted to my family that we should look elsewhere because I had a feeling about The Retreat at Hickory Hills Resort. When looking to make a reservation it said if we do not arrive between 3pm and 6pm on the first day of our reservation we forfeit the entire stay. "Failure to arrive during the designated check-in window without prior written approval will be considered a no-show. No-shows forfeit the full reservation amount". Sounds like a money grab to me. This is not a Campground it is a Resort so management can make any rules they see fit and expect every guest to follow them to the tee. There were only few activities on the weekend and they do not host a breakfast buffet anymore. The resort did not have any propane and claimed the vendor doesn't keep up with filling their tank. I do not blame the gas vendor, I would not enjoy working with them to gain access to the campground. Seems to me this is a corporation whose goal is to profit off of campers who are trying to make memories. I only post this because my family and friends are never planning to return and I would not be surprised if they make efforts to blacklist us at other campgrounds.

we booked a stay in july 2026 we arrived on a sunday and left on friday. camp store is closed…read moreuntil thursday the nature center is closed until thursday but they didnt open until friday for some reason. beach was closed due to flooding which is very common for this state park. NO campground gate attendant. at most 10 campers all week. Pool was closed on monday for cleaning and closed again on thursday they closed it all day because the power went out for two hours.

The campgrounds are excellent, especially Taylor Ridge. But be aware that you need to make reservations ahead of time, especially if you are planning a fall camping trip. Campsites sell out early. Shower rooms are decent, not wonderful. But satisfactory for a campground. Quiet hours are strictly observed, and the park rangers will pay a visit to your campsite if you aren't quiet after 10:00 pm Once we received a visit from a friendly park ranger when we were playing cards around 11 pm. We hadn't realized that we were being noisy at all but the ranger advised us that sound carries throughout the campground. Hiking trails range from easy to moderate. Trail maps are available are the trails are well marked. You will likely see deer and raccoons when hiking the trails. Some members of our group enjoy mountain biking too.

Past the crowd, the views were everything! It was eye candy and so worth the traffic, wait time and people. The park itself is very huge and has a couple entrance points and is well maintained. We hiked the Straul Lake hike and it's an easy 1 mile hike which had exceptional views- I just couldn't stop looking! The lookout points are another easy way to stop and click pictures, enjoy the views and just relax. Beware that internet depending on your provider can be hard to find. All in all brown county is a name for a reason. So worth the hype!

They do not answer their phones and their policy says you must talk to the office for a cancellation. I called several days with no ability to speak with anyone. We did however book our tubing trip for the correct day. When we arrived we tried kindly explaining to the woman our situation. She was immediately combative and argumentative. She immediately went in defense mode. It was incredibly unprofessional and abrasive. We understand we made a mistake however we didn't deserve to be treated that way. Naturally we firmly and persistently argued back as we were approached in such a manner. Ultimately she did end up refunding us (allegedly - we did not receive it yet. But did get confirmation email we were refunded) but it was after a long awkward argument for really no reason. If the woman at the front office was polite from the get go we would have had a much better experience. The gentlemen who ran the tubing, said his name was Kim. He was very kind and professional. I would give this place another go because of his efforts in trying to make the situation more comfortable.
