Came here recently for a two night camping trip. The campground is well maintained and the bathrooms are cleaned daily. We opted for a fully shaded site which was spacious and close to the water spigot and bathrooms. We were unaware that you can only have two tents so DNR has to come tell us that we had to take one of our tents down. The park really only has one hiking trail that's about a mile long. There is lake and beach. The beach was quite dirty with trash and cigarette butts everywhere but the water was relaxing. Cataract falls is a short drive away and a nice place to go on another hike. There is a playground for kids which looked nice.

Planned months in advance, I was looking forward to my first time ever camping with my girls, especially considering the oldest will likely leave the nest soon. My (experienced) SO and I shopped for supplies at various garage sales over the summer in anticipation. His boss bought a boat and planned on bringing his family as well. We had another couple join in to make a group of 10 on two primitive lots for Labor Day weekend. Despite our last minute scramble the night before to pack and shop for supplies and groceries, we made the trip in just over an hour, arriving by noon on Friday. There was a slight shade as we put up our tents, but the temperatures surpassed 90 degrees before long and I knew we were in store for a sweltering holiday. We took a stroll to find the restroom and I thought I'd cry when we found an outhouse swarming with flies. A short trip to the Camp Store gave me hope, when the store clerk told me there were showers and flushing toilets a short distance from our tent site - WHEW! There was a Smokey the Bear siting on Friday afternoon, and boy, did I feel sorry for him in the heat of the day! I wish he would've made it out after dark on Saturday as the fireworks blazed to remind people about fire safety, since many families hadn't made it in yet and my girls missed him too. I mention this because there were many campfires left blazing after people packed up and departed, despite DNR constantly driving by. Kids surrounded the campsite, riding their bikes all around as fires were started in preparation for dinner. We grilled burgers as the sun went down and were grateful for the lanterns that our friends had and the last minute head lamp purchased on Amazon for same day delivery. We tucked in for the night appreciative of any breeze the small tent fan we brought blew over us and dozed off to the chirps of crickets and nature surrounding us. By Saturday, the campground was abuzz with families setting up their home base with campers, tents, volleyball nets, hula hoops and all the necessary gear for the weekend. While grateful for the bathhouse upgrade, it got messy quick with the number of guests using the facilities, many without any manners to clean up after themselves. I appreciated the cleaning crew that came in daily to freshen things up. The rest of the weekend was filled with boating adventures, tubing, swimming, fishing, gourmet grilling and camp stove cooking, fireworks and fun times. The beach area was packed with families attempting to gain some relief from the record heat that took over. The girls enjoyed getting buried in the sand and eventually found the swimming pool. As the sun went down the dark enveloped us and we gazed up at the bright stars trying to identify the constellations together as we were unplugged from internet connectivity. The air was crisp and we felt one with nature. Lieber State Recreation Area has a lot to offer; from the beach area and dock, to the Nature Center, fish cleaning site, picnic areas, trails and of course the water. The Camp Store will have most items that you may have forgotten to bring and all the ice you'll need for the weekend. We didn't even make it to Cataract Falls during this trip, but we look forward to returning. Suggestions to the property: Have a dumpster allocated for recycling. I, for one, felt awful not being able to separate my cans and plastic.

Went camping for a night. Close enough to Indy that we go there with plenty of daylight left on a Friday after work. We just tented but the sites all had plenty of room. We stayed at an electric site and it was very clean with no debris. We had no problem finding a flat spot for our tent. The camp store is located at the end of the non electric sites and had plenty of wood at a good price. The fire rings are designed to have a fire in front or cook over a grill top. Bring a grill brush and cooking's spray! The picnic tables are showing age, make sure to bring a table cloth. The flush toilets could use an upgrade as well. The pit toliets are well....pit toliets... Overall great state park. The water was high so we couldn't go down to the beach. Cataract falls are about 15 minutes away. Make sure to check that out too!

My daughter and I went camping here over the weekend. This is definitely an overlooked state recreation area. Unfortunately as it is past Labor Day the polls and beach are closed. This is a park with a lot to do though. I saw basketball courts. Horseshoe pits. During the summer a nice pool. There is a good boat launch area but I don't have a boat. There is a short trail to walk up to an observation point with a great view as well. There is a nice nature center. The campgrounds are pretty nice. Semi circular open areas backed up to the woods. Each site has a fire pit and brand new picnic tables. The only drawback is while I don't mind camping my daughter hates pit toilets and that is what they have. I can understand back in the 70s when I was a kid camping the whole pit toilet thing but you would think we might have advanced by now to upgrade the parks for slightly better bathrooms. But it is pretty cheap to get in at $7.00. There's a camp store to get any items you forgot too.

Great Lake just an hour outside of Indianapolis! If you're looking for a quieter boating scene make the drive out to Lieber! It's a very clean body of water and it's great for water skiing and water sports! Park entrance fee is $5 but you get access to the entire grounds of the state park!

Camping Area - Tons of Space for RV's and Tents Enough space between camp sites to have privacy.

I absolutely love camping and have been to a ton of state parks in my city! This place has great campgrounds and easy access to the highway and retail stores near by. The camp store is easy to find and the trails are easy to navigate. The lake is sooo gorgeous, but the water is honestly kind of stinky... we didn't swim much in the lake due to it. The beach was also extremely crowded! Although, their pool isn't really equipped for adults that want to swim. The pool is basically a kiddie pool all around, only 4 feet of water to swim in. They have the deep end backed off for kids who want to dive off the diving board. Just wish the pool was better set up so that adults are able to swim as well, the pool could be bigger. Not to mention, their bathrooms (not the outhouses) are absolutely disgusting and haven't been kept clean at all. All stalls had no toilet paper, floors of the bathroom covered in water, used toilet paper, urine and feces! These toilet were so nasty we didn't even use the bathrooms at the park for this reason. They could have better cleaning policy's to make these experiences not as bad and also so they're guests aren't using bathrooms that are this contaminated.

The Upper Falls drops 20 feet and can be viewed near the entrance to the park at several overlooks. We visited this week on a bright summer day. The waters were loud and rapid after recent rains. This is one of Indiana's most beautiful sites. There is a large parking lot near the Upper Falls along with picnic tables, grill, pavilion and small playground. We brought a picnic lunch so we could enjoy the Falls. There are pit bathrooms near the playground in a second parking lot. The Lower Falls are a short drive through the park. A nearby lot provides plenty of parking. The short path to view the falls is not paved, but an easy walk. These falls drop 18 feet with incredible views of the layered limestone exposed west of the falls. I was envious of a lone kayaker below the falls. There are marked trails through dense woods descending near the creek. You'll want to wear good hiking shoes and bug spray if you are up for the adventure. The property was donated by Agnes Stuckey in memory of her mother, Agnes Steiner. The Park is maintained by the Indiana DNR. There was no admission during our midweek visit.

I consider the hiking to be similar to Eagle Creek and Fort Harrison parks, but with the perks of no entry fee and thus, less crowds. I went on my hike on an early Saturday evening. I don't believe there is a bathroom on the premises. There's also not a ton of parking by the hiking trails either. Helmets are definitely a must. Even the beginner trail can be challenging if never mountain biked before. My kids really enjoyed it, one struggled with getting up the hills though so that caused some hardship when biking with multiple people in close proximity. The mountain biking trails also have hikers on them so beware and try to be as safe as you can. After mountain biking, we hiked a trail which was fun. Not sure how long the trail was, but we walked all the way down by the water which was very pretty. They have a paved path as well if that's more your speed. Parking areas are available which makes accessing the park easy. I didn't notice any restroom building, but they had a porta potty open for use. A playground was accessible near the area we parked at.

This is one of the best parks I've visited in central Indiana, and if you look at my Yelp review…read morehistory, you'll see I've visited a lot of parks! This lady knows her parks, mmmkay? Hummel Park in Plainfield is impressive for many reasons: it's huge (205 acres!), it has multiple playgrounds (like 4!), it has a splash pad, it has a baseball field and basketball courts, it has a great area to creek stomp with lots of shallow places for kids to wade, it has paved walking trails, it has a bridge, it has a amphitheater, it has clean restrooms, and a lot more that I'm forgetting. Also, it's really clean and well-taken-care-of. People with kids definitely need to visit this park. Like I said, there are four different playgrounds, so you could spend a lot of time here going from playground to another. The biggest playground area is located in the southeast part of the park. This playground includes a vintage twirly slide, but also a more modern playground structure with multiple slides, tunnels, bridges, monkey bars, poles to slide down and rope ladders to climb up. The playground is accessible to kids of all abilities, and includes a ramp entrance into the playground structure. This part of the park also has swings, including a saucer swing, as well as a separate playground for toddlers, and a big sand box. The splash pad is located in this area of the park, too. It's a great size for toddlers. I wouldn't visit this park just for the splash pad, because there are other parks in the area with bigger splash pads, but it's nice that there's one here and that it's so close to the playground. There is another playground near the performing arts center, which includes a toddler playground and a playground for bigger kids. A short walk away from this playground is a nature playground, with manufactured boulders and rope webs that kids can climb and explore. Paved trails offer an easy walk or stroll. As you meander through the park, you'll probably cross over a bridge that's suspended over White Lick Creek, which runs through the middle of this park, and it flows from the north part of the park to the south part. There are five small lakes within Hummel Park, including Blue Heron Lake. Hummel Park is also a great place to go creek stomping, because the creek bed includes many shallow areas where kids can wade in the water. I've heard that the sledding hill at Hummel Park is amazing, so I'll have to visit in the winter with my kids.

Strangely, the mulch for the park was dumped on one of the exit roads which completely blocked any vehicles from passing.
