Food - we only ordered nachos with salsa and cheese dip to go with our wine flight. They do offer hot pretzel with cheese dip and charcuterie board. Wine tasting is 4 flights for $10. You can even try some meads or wine slushies in this 4. I prefer the sweet white wine. There were some very good ones, especially the reisling. My friend prefers reds. There were fewer to pick from. But he did like what he tasted. Service is friendly and prompt. Ambiance - you can sit at the bar or at tables. Lots of wine related items on sale. I liked the woodsy look. There is outdoor seating, but it doesn't face much greenery, or any grapevines. Located in Burt, very close to Lake Ontario. I stopped here with friends on an afternoon filled with winery visits. I've been to this winery a few times but for some reason never did a review. They always have good wines. On this visit I tried their cab (a staple), a trilogy red, and a chardonnay. My friends all ordered their mead wine and all enjoyed it. Mead wine if you don't know, is made from honey. It's a little sweet for my taste but if they all say it's good I'll believe them. I had a few extraordinary moments on vacation thanks to service at small businesses and this winery was a big one! You walk in the door and are just wowed by the shop, bar and tasting area- the deep, rich tones make you feel welcome. Shout out to Haley who went above and beyond! They had a full bar, but we snagged the last two seats and the three ladies behind the bar all tried to help us at the same time, we were laughing that they were fighting over us! Haley ended up being our tasting guide and I knew pretty quickly I wanted to mix and match with a wine and cheese pairing. No problem- they have an extra menu that cross compares wine/mead/ice wine to various cheeses and/or chocolates. I honestly didn't plan on a true pairing- as I wanted to try various cheeses, but I ended up doing it properly with Haley's help. My line up- De Peche Meow, a light peach wine that was wonderful and refreshing and I sampled the smoked cheddar with it- the cheeses, oh lordy- were amazing! John got popcorn, if you sample the cheeses, pop a piece of popcorn in your mouth after- extra YUM! Next up- Odin's Nectar (a mead) and I had two cheeses with this one- minced garlic cheddar and an oregano cheddar. We bought Odin's Nectar- so you know I loved it and I enjoyed the minced garlic cheddar a bit more than the oregano, but both were delicious. Next up- Freja's Passion, another mead, that tasted of strawberries and cream, wonderful- this was a contender to purchase for sure! I split my piece of gehl between my last two meads as soft cheeses compliment sweet meads. The cheese is very much like brie- so I knew I would enjoy it and was wonderful with the mead! Last mead on my tasting was Valkyrie's Lure- smelled like circus peanuts! This one was a bit too sweet for me, and once Haley told me it smelled like the candy circus peanuts- that's all I could think of. I'm grateful, because it would have driven me nuts trying to figure out what it reminded me of. Again, the gehl was delicious with this mead. John tried 2 ice wines and the bourbon barrel aged port- oh gosh, they were all spectacular! Honestly- we bought a bottle of mead and a bottle of wine for less than the price of one ice wine. They were worth the price, but I'm greedy and wanted more for less, lol. As a bonus- we asked to sample the Black Widow Berry wine- a sweet red and that was our second bottle! Sold!!! If you know me, you know I am a huge tree hugger, so of course- I loved their logo! I snagged a t-shirt and hoodie, plus the mead and wine and left a VERY, VERY Happy Woman! So we needed to restock our wine for the winter. Tastings are different and they did a great job of drinking with food. They have different options. Pairings cheese and wine, chocolate and wine, both cheese and chocolate and wine or 4 Tastings with food purchase. We did the last one 4 tastings and the charcuterie board. This was an awesome choice. Plus I smelled the fresh popped popcorn so I bought the bag of popcorn for the ride home. They have a large selection of wines to everyone's liking. It was an afternoon out and a great way to enjoy supporting local businesses. So good we bought 4 bottles from them. If you like doing wine tasting it is different but this was an awesome change. We came here for a little girls day wine tasting. We got a wine slushie and they had berry and peach and the berry was delicious. We were also surprised to see they had a hot mead with apple cider and clove spices, it was the perfect fall drink. My friend tried their estate diamond, which is a dry white and it was very smooth and delectable. I liked that they have popcorn and other snacks if you get hungry or want to pair with your wine. I am a huge fan of the DePeche Meow, Freya's Passion, and Black Widow Berry. They are super tasty and go great with the chocolate or cheese. The staff is super friendly, helpful and just great to chat with. They have a great space inside and when it is nice you can sit outside as well. They offer a variety of gifts, oils, different items for your home. It is truly a gorgeous place to visit. The prices of the bottles are very reasonable, and who doesn't love a great wine/ mead at an affordable price! We visited Black Willow and were delighted by the service and the way they set up their tastings. We opted for the wine and chocolate pairing which was the best decision ever! You get a choice of 4 wines and 4 chocolates. The chocolates looked like works of art, some glassy looking, others tiny truffles. The flavors were wonderful, such as PB & J, Strawberry Cheesecake, Tiramisu, and your standard milk chocolate, dark chocolate, etc. The gentleman assisting us was extremely friendly and helpful, giving us lots of information on the wines we selected. The wines were pretty good and the chocolates just enhanced the flavor. They also had lots of fun wine themed knick-knacks, accessories, and décor for purchase that were really cute! Author Neil Gaiman once wrote , "I've had really nice mead, rich and honeyish, normally handed to me in small glasses by people who had brewed it themselves, and I've had a thin and noxious substance that tastes like sweet, alcoholic pickle-juice passed to me (usually by commercial mead-vendors) representing itself as mead." The meads here are the former rather than the latter. I tried all three on my first visit last October. Oh. My. Gods. I truly felt like I crossed the rainbow bridge into Asgard. Odin's Nectar is probably the most conventional honey mead. It's comforting and enchanting and put me into a dream state. Freyja's Passion was lighter and more playful, and Valkyrie's Lure tasted like Christmas in a glass. It also smells a lot like red vines. I love pairing these meads with holiday feasts. The wines range from good to great. The ice wine is syrupy sweet and decadent, just what I expected from a dessert wine. The Trilogy Red is the best dry red wine I've had. Red wines tend to be thin in this region due to the climate, but this wine is very full bodied with enjoyable berry notes. I also like the Merlots from Victorianbourg and Niagara Landing, but the fullness of Trilogy Red stands up to its oakiness the best. The Riesling is good. It doesn't have a soft finish like my least favorite Rieslings on the trail, but it doesn't have the crispness of my favorites either. Bare Cat Blush is a semi blush wine. It's fruity and sweet, but not too sweet. The Classic Diamond has a distinctive floral flavor. It's good, but I prefer the Diamond at Honeymoon Trail. Black Widow Berry is a sweet red wine with berry notes. In addition to wine tastings, you can try their olive oils and vinegars for free. We purchase them regularly. I also recommend doing a chocolate and wine pairing at least once. The Normal Love truffles are divine. I always receive excellent service when I visit. Today the owner even offered to take a picture for me. Black Willow remains one of my favorite wineries. read more

Stopped here on a wine tour today. The place itself was really cute and the shop with cheeses and wines to offer was very cute but I was a little turned off by the service. I purchased a tasting and got tickets for it but almost felt like I had to flag people down to get additional tastings. It didn't seem overly busy in there, just seemed like they were catering more to people who purchased more expensive wine/chocolate or wine/cheese tastings. I hadn't been here before and I'm not sure I would be in a hurry to go back. I tasted 4-5 wines and the last wine I tried was a "mead" which was different than anything I ever had before, it's made form honey instead of grapes and kind of had a weird aftertaste. read more

Absolutely one of my top favorite Winery's on the Niagara Wine Trail. Its kind of small inside, but perfect for trying some wine and eating some of their DELICIOUS chocolate. Their chocolate isn't cheap, but when you taste one you will realize why. They are some of the best chocolate you will taste and they have so many different kinds. I must say the tiramisu and the peanut butter cup are 2 of my favorite. They also offer a pairing where you can choose 4 wine tastings which each wine will come with a chocolate of your choice. I really like the wines at this winery, which is why I feel compelled to deliver four stars despite the experience yesterday. We went on a wine tour for a friend's birthday, we were 22 people in total that all arrived banging down the door of the limo bus and surrounding the bar all at once. The planner of the group had called prior to the date and asked if reservations should be made to accommodate such a large number, and was told no. Perhaps that would have made things go a little more smoothly? Anyway, the young man behind the bar (there was really only one!) came around as quickly as he could to describe the options to everyone. Wine tasting, or wine and cheese pairing, or wine and chocolate pairing. By this point we had been on the bus and out and about at different places for about 3 hours or so. We wanted some cheese! The majority of our very large group opted for the wine and cheese pairing ($15/ person with four wines and four cheeses). The staff was simply not able to accommodate this number of requests at once. A woman came out to help prepare the cheeses for the pairings, and another man came out to help with orders, bringing the total to three. We were only allotted forty minutes at each winery, and it took some members of our group (myself included) at least that long, if not longer to be served both the wine and cheese. Of course, we are sophisticated and classy and were not gonna down all the wine before receiving the cheeses. That is not a pairing! So we waited. After 40-45 minutes the last 5 of us were served and everyone else was back on the bus. We had to seriously rush through the tastings and I was very sad about it because everything tasted so nice. Favorites: Wine- Black Willow Berry, Classic Diamond, DePeche Meow Cheeses: oregano cheddar, garden pepperjack The staff working was very apologetic for the wait which I appreciated as did the rest of the group, but I could tell that for some patience was fading fast. Perhaps a reservation would be more useful next time? Or a way of pre-cutting and/or storing the cheeses for the pairings? read more

The drive up to BW was teeth rattling due to street resurfacing and I thought I lost a front tire on the road transition so go slow. Upon entering you see a nicely laid out space with gifts and expensive edibles all about. The popcorn smell hits you when you enter which works for a movie theater but is not good for your senses while experiencing the nose of the wine you are there to experience. I sensed that this was or was aspiring to be a premium winery so I gaged my expectations accordingly. The bar was full and the service decent given the crowd. So to my surprise when I paid for a single port tasting it arrived in one of those little plastic cups you put ketchup in at McDonalds. Now how on earth can you fairly taste a port when is resides in a ketchup cup? Well I did my best and it was not so good. In fact, I tasted a port that day elsewhere costing $10 less per bottle that was significantly better. Wineries attract people from all over the world so BW should think about this revising policy. At least the popcorn was good. read more

Black Willow always gives me the impression of a destination getaway. Tucked away in a less traveled street corner, facing an orchard with only a house by its side as its neighbor, with quaint little tables and chairs on its patio and large trees shadowing its parking lot, could anyone be blamed for having that impression? Then you walk through the heavy front door and into the open-setup, wide-ceiling store with its creme-colored thick walls; if it's summer, the cool air inside starkly contrasts the heat of the outside. It's like entering a completely different world. I love it. What drew us to Black Willow initially were cats on wine bottles, chocolate truffles too gorgeous to be eaten, and olive oil; yes, in that order. Black Willow Winery carries their own lines of wine, and some of the wine have three cats on the label (there's a story behind it, and if you're visiting and your curiosity is piqued, you're welcome to ask the store attendants about it). They also sell chocolate truffles, which are easily the most beautiful truffles I've ever seen (the taste matches the look, by the way). And of course, they offer good quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar, flavor infused and otherwise. There are also wine related knick-knacks and snack-making items, and a small selection of human jewelry and car jewelry. The main offerings, though, appear to be the wine, the chocolate, and the olive oil/balsamic vinegar. Like most other winery, Black Willow Winery offers wine tasting. Unlike most other winery, Black Willow offers wine tasting with chocolate pairing for a little extra. I have not been able to resist doing the wine-chocolate pairing tasting whenever I visit. I have been satisfied with my overall experience each time. When you sign up for the wine tasting, you will be given a wine list, which gives plenty of description of what each wine is supposed to taste like. If this isn't clear - and I've had many questions about the tasting itself and about many of the wine - please feel free to stop the attendant assisting with the tasting. I've found them to always be happy to help me. Port tasting is part of the wine tasting for additional price. Keep in mind though, that it is more expensive than wine and a lot more potent than wine. It will not be served out of a wine glass but will be served instead out of a shot glass. No worries though; that much port is more than enough for a taste test (and it's probably the most they could give during a taste test without risking causing anyone to leave drunk!). Black Willow Winery makes some really good wine, and some of those are now among my favorite. I'm also looking forward to coming back for more of the chocolate truffles. Some of their olive oil and balsamic vinegar have certainly resided in my pantry and have been used in my cooking often! If you plan to visit Black Willow Winery for the first time, and you're into their main offerings like I am (wine, chocolate, oil, and vinegar), be prepared to walk out with a much lighter wallet. read more

There were so many wines that I loved and bought bottles to take home. Classic diamond, Black widow berry, De Peche Meow all so delicious! The tasting room is adorable! They sell a lot of chocolates and cheese as well as wine. They were fairly busy when we walked in, but they were very attentive and we got our tastings in no time at all. It was pretty cheap for a tasting - $2 for 3 tastings. Their wine is good. I'm a big fan of their concord one and the Niagara one. I'm bad with official label names, sorry! The meads are interesting. I'm not super huge into meads. Their one mead that tastes like strawberry yogurt, really DOES taste like strawberry yogurt. We went here for a wine tour for my birthday, and they had some really good ones to choose from! The Black Widow Berry? I think it was called, was SUPER good. It was fairly cheap, I believe 3$ for 4 tastings. They also have delicious popcorn to sample while you are tasting. They had a chocolate/wine pairing option for $12, but I was strictly there for the booze. The décor inside was cute, and they had a neat display of all of their chocolates. They had a lot of little trinkets to look through, and a ton of Halloween décor and wine related gifts. The staff was less than pleased to be serving my group of about 20 people, however. We called in advance so they knew we were headed their way. They were not very nice when giving the pours, and didn't explain much. read more

Gourmet chocolates from FLA and when you taste them you'll think you've died and gone to chocolate heaven. Nice selection of wines from dry to sweet and nectar to boot.
