This work of Art is located in the ArtsPark located directly behind the Indianapolis Art Center. It is kind of yucked away in some brush. It was created by Indiana native John Spaulding.and is meant to pay homage to the power and dignity of African men.
Considering that it was made in1984, the sculpture is still in great condition. Prior to its current location in the park, the sculpture was exhibited at shows in New York, the Indiana Black Expo in 1985 and The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
The sculpture is made of bronze and depicts a black boxer in his early twenties, who has prominent features that include bulging eyes, a large nose, and large ears. His hair is short and cropped. The sculpture is on a concrete base.
This is one of the wonderful pieces of art in the ArtsPark. It is definitely worth a visit as park of a larger adventure. read more
