Ok so being from Dallas Texas and looking for a good steak place this was it. Are they slow here yes, a steak of perfection should never be rushed. The blues cheese chips were absolutely fabulous and fried mushrooms delicious. Dinner salad had not one bit of wiltedness to it. Oh my my rare filet was so soft and tender so delicious. Took some time but doesn't matter to me. Here on business trip to buy Real Estate. We have very spoiled pallets and this place met our expectations. If you want a good steak stop looking and come here. The bread was so soft and home made garlic dressing was amazing. I love this place because of the red carpet and dark look. Wine pours are huge the beautiful crystal water glasses are fancy. This place is fantastic for out of towners with fancy pallets. Raymond said absolutely fantastic. All of us will be back. Sandy is so sweet and pleasant. So hey Texans this place will satisfy your steak dinner wants. Everything is bigger in Texas and here they make sure they measure up to our standards. So glad I listened to the locals about this place and not some random person with a negative review. I wrote this because I read some reviews and avoided this place, but left another restaurant to come here and soooo glad we did. Just wanted to help other fellow lookers who want good food and don't know where to go.

    The Black Steer during Christmas

Growing up in Yankton, "the steer" has always been a point of contention in the community, but for my money there is not a more unique restaurant within Yankton. It harkens back to a time of supper clubs, and real cocktails, a time when dining out was an event. Every time I come back to Yankton, I always make a point to stop here. You will not have a better steak in town, and that's that. Walking into the Black Steer is like stepping back in time. A family business for as long as I can remember, the food has never disappointed me. Frankly, "the steer" is outdated, but that's its charm, and having said that, at no time does the restaurant ever feel run-down. Wood paneling, red carpet, and a big fireplace only compliment a stiff drink and a tender steak. I've never had the seafood here because why would you, it's the midwest. Come here for the steak. They cut their own meat, and it's always cooked to perfection. Service can be hit or miss, but for me it has always be pleasant. It saddens me to think that restaurants like these are few and far between, but let's hope this Yankton staple will be around for many years to come.

A few weeks ago, my longtime buddy and I went to Jerry's Hilltop on Saturday night for their Prime…read moreRib meal. We like to try local restaurants around the state and call our operation "Boyz Against Salads (BAS)". We were unsure how busy things would be that night because we knew this restaurant was fairly popular among the locals. I decided to call a few days before and make a reservation for Saturday night. While on the phone, the woman asked me if I wanted to save any cuts of Prime Rib for Saturday. I said absolutely we do. This is not an accommodation that I have seen at another restaurant, but it was a welcomed aspect that more restaurants should take part in. As you pull up to the restaurant, which is actually located on the top of the hill of a highway, you will see an unsuspecting building. There were dozens of cars there at 6:45 that night, which did have us worried, but we were grateful to have made a reservation prior to our arrival. When we entered the building, we were quickly greeted by the hostess. It was clear that our assumption about the level of popularity of this establishment was true. There were dueling parties being hosted within the restaurant. And let me tell you, this is a huge venue. Even with all of the cars outside, there was still plenty of room on the inside. We were quickly provided our table, and a waitress greeted us shortly thereafter. Something that we picked up on right away was how many waitresses were working that night. I have never seen so many in a local restaurant. Perhaps this was due to the party celebrations taking place, but nonetheless, this helped offer superior service to the customers. The waitress we had was extremely cordial, knowledgeable, and a true helper to a few outside fellas. As we scoured the menu, we saw that the Prime Rib meal was only $30 (They offer a smaller cut for only a dollar less.), and it came with a smorgasbord of food. The standard side salad, choice of potato, and bun were expected, but we did not anticipate also being offered a cup of soup and a relish tray. This was also something else we had never seen before by being provided a relish tray. This was brought out extremely fast after our order was taken. And let me tell you what, there was plenty on this relish tray. The picture attached was taken after my buddy and I had devoured a large chunk of it. The rest of our meal came out in a reasonable amount of time. The Prime Rib was cooked perfectly. The au jus had a great salty flavor. The loaded baked potato was wonderful. My buddy and I also had to order some pie and ice cream for dessert. If you have not had the chance to stop at Jerry's Hilltop, I highly recommend that you do so in the near future. This is a fine family establishment that is worth your time. The entire staff will treat you as if you were their own family. For our BAS operation, we keep track of all the restaurants we visit and grade them on five different characteristics (price point, taste, portion size, restaurant ambiance, and plating). We each rate the various characteristics out of five and then add both scores up. The maximum points allowed per characteristic is ten. Jerry's Hilltop came out with a score of 44/50, which currently holds the top spot in our leaderboard. We HIGHLY recommend Jerry's Hilltop.

As the song goes...."where everyone knows your name." Daily specials are offered Monday-Thursday but unfortunately, our visit was on Friday. We browsed the printed menu and landed on the patty melt and rodeo best burger--a 6 oz. burger jam packed with two types of cheese, mushrooms and all the fixings. It was huge! A side of crinkle cut fries was split between our orders and after seeing the size of the fry order we were glad we decided to share! All burgers on the menu with "rodeo" in the name are 6 oz. in size. A sign on the wall reads, "if you leave hungry it is your fault" and I would tend to agree with the sign's message. Our burgers were juicy, a little messy in a good way, and very filling. Our server was friendly, efficient, and checked on us frequently. We were provided a full set of condiments (see photo) to embellish our already overflowing burgers--something you don't see at your local burger joint. Restrooms needed some updating and attention, but were clean and serviced. We liked the friendly feel and food at the Rodeo Bar and Grill and would recommend it to others--if we keep traveling to northeast Nebraska they may even learn our names.

The food is great and it's probably the best thing ever you will find in a small town in Nebraskaread more
