I'm over 40 and was looking for a place where I could train often, push myself, and still stay safe. Black Sheep Jiu Jitsu has been exactly that. The teaching is super high level, but the vibe on the mat is welcoming and safe enough that I'm able to roll 6-7 days a week. There are tons of black belts and brown belts here--Levon, Derek, Alex, Evan--who make every round tough but also take the time to help you get better while you roll. Coach Wolf is amazing with both technique and rolling, and Cole is awesome with the no-gi classes. Big shoutout as well to the morning crew--Noah, Nico, and Tyler--who make early training something to actually look forward to. This place is packed with knowledge, great people, and positive energy. If you're looking for a spot to improve and have fun on the mats--whether you're young, competitive, or just trying to stay sharp past 40--Black Sheep Jiu Jitsu is the gym read more

Incredible gym. I train primarily kickboxing with Noah and I'm incredibly impressed with his teaching ability. I have advanced considerably even as a 41 year old under his direction. My BJJ game has also drastically improved. Everyone here is more than willing to help a white belt like me get better and better. I have a lot to thank the crew for. Oss! read more

been training here for almost a year and my review would be five stars if not for the insane hygiene issues. PLEASE for the health and safety of your students disinfect the mats between each class. Or at the very least east wipe them down so they're not drenched in others sweat when people step on... Staph infections, MRSA, and ringworm are very real things. read more

I am 63 years old and I can't say enough good things about Woolf, Cole, Danny and everybody at Black Sheep Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. it is a super friendly vibe and great for an older guy like me- in fact there are a number of 50+ people training there. The instruction there is fantastic, and everybody is super friendly and super welcoming. This is a great place for beginners or very advanced grapplers to come and improve their skills and make some great friends in a very friendly environment. I come here every chance I get. read more

The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, emphasizing solid fundamentals, technical precision and practical application for all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner learning your first guard pass or a seasoned competitor refining your game, the training environment pushes you to grow while maintaining respect and camaraderie on the mats. Awesome gym to train at! I do drop ins from time to time. The team and instructors are top notch. As a 50 year old, they are very accommodating. If I turn it up and want a hard roll, they will give me one. When I want to chill and flow, they match that energy. read more

I am an older grappler (the oldest woman at Black Sheep by at least 10 years and in most cases 20 years) and I love training here. The instructors are amazing, the level of Jiu Jitsu is top notch, and the people who train here are like family. Everyone I train with can tone it down if I need to take it easy and can also train hard and challenge me on those days when I want to push myself. I have learned so much at Black Sheep, my game has gotten so much better from the incredible level of instruction, and I look forward to training here as long as I can physically continue on my Jiu Jitsu journey. read more

Best jiu-jitsu gym in Marin! Black Sheep is more than a gym, it is a family. Everybody is so friendly and pushes you to achieve a better version of yourself on the mat, Woolf, Danny, Cole, Lauren, David, Niko are amazing coaches and take the time to explain the moves in detail. I highly recommend Black Sheep if you want to get high-level training read more

Absolutely great teachers, outstanding ownership, wonderful community members--great mentors, all-around.

I started Jiu-Jitsu at an older age and it has been the best thing I have done for my physical and mental wellbeing. The coaches are world class with a laid back California vibe. Training system is top notch and everyone in the gym is helpful and supportive. read more

I just trained at Black Sheep, and I have injuries to my elbow, neck and shoulder that are going to take weeks to heal. I am an older grappler, and I have trained at dozens of places all over the world. Some gyms have a nice, mellow vibe, others seem to think that every roll is the Thunderdome with kill or be killed. Black Sheep is the latter, starting with the instructor, who was unnecessarily aggressive to a purely defensive older grappler. I told everybody in the gym that I am an older guy, take it easy, I am just trying to get some exercise, but they seemed to think this meant they should go even harder. People were friendly enough, but this is a gym that needs a serious change of culture, starting from the top. Stay away from this gym until the culture changes. read more

## Five Stars! Amazing Instruction and Welcoming Community at Black Sheep! I never thought I'd find a gym where I could train alongside world champions and feel so welcome at the same time. But Black Sheep is exactly that! From the moment I walked in, everyone was friendly and encouraging, regardless of skill level. The instructors are top-notch, with Woolf, the owner and head instructor, leading the charge. He has an incredible eye for detail and a knack for explaining complex techniques in a way that's easy to understand, even for beginners like me. He pushes you to improve without making you feel overwhelmed, and his passion for Jiu Jitsu is truly contagious. But what really sets Black Sheep apart is the training partners. I'm fortunate enough to share the mat with multiple world champions who are not only incredibly skilled but also incredibly down-to-earth. They're always willing to answer questions, offer tips, and even roll with you, which is an amazing learning experience. They never make you feel like you're out of place, and their positive energy keeps the training environment fun and motivating. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or a complete beginner, I highly recommend checking out Black Sheep. You won't find a better place to learn Jiu Jitsu, make friends, and push yourself to your full potential. **Pros:** * World-class instructors, including Woolf, the owner and head instructor * Welcoming and supportive community * Opportunity to train alongside world champions * Positive and motivating training environment **Cons:** * (Honestly, there are none! I can't recommend this gym enoughe.) read more

So stoked to find this place! I travel to the Bay Area for work and hate missing training. Won't be missing out anymore! Coach Woolf and Coach Danny have a fantastic school! Coach Danny taught a super fun and technical de La riva sequence, then we did some positional training, then we got some rolls in! Full family vibe, everyone is down to roll and have fun! Lots of talented people at this school! If you love jiu jitsu and are in the Bay Area, make sure you visit Black Sheep jiu jitsu! You can thank me later! read more

I've trained at some of the best places in NYC and Boston and this is one of my favorite places to train jiu-jitsu. Woolf is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Kalani teaches an excellent fundamentals class and is so helpful with all skill ranges. I happily drive from Berkeley to train here. I highly recommend this place to both beginners and advanced students. read more

The best Jiu-Jitsu tech in the North Bay! Plus no slimy business practices. This is the real deal!

A smallish BJJ school, tucked away next to the Post Office parking lot. The students were welcoming and friendly, as were the two co owners. An almost equal mix of young talented female, and male ninjas. The instruction was great, followed by some rolling time. There were no egos on the mats. Drop in fee is $25, I'm used to paying $0 to $20, but it's Marin county. If you want to drop in multiple days, it's pricey. Coming from a medical back ground, what caught my eye however, were heaps of gi's (not sure if they were clean or dirty, but I assume they're all loaner gi's) thrown on the mats in a corner, and about 30 or so various belts and gi's hanging on the rack above the mats. There is a single toilet, steps away from the mats, and a small changing stall. This didn't make me confident about the cleanliness of the mat space as I saw people tip towing off the mats, and changing in the toilet. It's so easy to get MRSA (staph), and ringworm, on the mats which are not mopped with disinfectant between classes, and not washing and properly storing loaner gi's and belts. This is easily correctable though. If you're in San Francisco area looking for a nice BJJ gym, and a beautiful scenic drive from Stinson Beach, look them up. read more

It is a small gym and has a very "underground" vibe but this place has a soul and most people who join never leave. The instructors here are world class and they break down this complicated martial art into something the average person can understand. Everyone is very chill and friendly and somehow they manage to make this full contact sport completely non intimidating. I have been a member for about 4 years and I have seen this place change lives. I have seen people loose weight, gain muscle, gain confidence, gain skills, and gain friends. I can't give Black Sheep enough praise. read more

The instructors Woolf and Danny offer world class instruction. Among being personable, they're both extremely detail oriented in their displays of technique and their dedication to the art is impeccable. I've trained and been taught by Woolf for quite some time and it really brought my level of jiu jitsu to a whole different level to where I was medalling and winning IBJJF level tournaments both locally and internationally. If you're in the area I highly recommend Black Sheep Jiu Jitsu! read more

I did a drop in and the staff was more than helpful getting me squared away and Into the class. Really detailed instructions and good flow. Everyone there waS super friendly and motivated to get quality time on the mat. I'd highly recommend this place for all levels and ages. Thanks again Black Sheep! read more

The training at Black Sheep is top notch. Both my kids who train Jiu Jitsu and I have all trained there and Woolf has trained my kids for many years. This is a gem of a spot and if you are lucky enough to live in the area, this is a "must train" spot (we drive about 45 minutes to train there). You will be amongst legends on your first day of training and won't even know it until you start to immures yourself into the sport and culture of this lifestyle because the owners and crew are so down to earth. Both Woolf and Danny (the owners) are welcoming and there is zero ego in this place. You feel like you are amongst friends and will be left wanting for more. This is the sign of a good gym. The prices are right on the mark. The gym is clean. The teaching is top notch. Look no further, you've found your spot to train. read more

If you have been thinking about trying Brazilian Jiujitsu, start here. You will get wrapped up like a pretzel, but everyone training and teaching, will be courteous while it is happening. The instructors ensure that the classes are geared toward the class' skill level with additional personal and detailed instruction. Classes are usually built on the foundation of advancing of core techniques. You get the what? when? why? how? of positions, transitions and finishes. Again, this is all taught in a mellow and inviting atmosphere. If you are looking to compete, Woolf and Danny have you covered there as well. This gym is the reason I continued to train jiujitsu and the reason my girlfriend started training as well. read more
