It said to dress to impress for a disco, when we arrived we were greeted by a host that was there to check you off the list and make sure you paid your $120. Which covered some cocktails, cookies, fruit and finger sandwiches. The hosts stayed by the door and didn't really check to see how the party was going. There were a few streamers and balloons. No party favors or noise makers for midnight. A very small disco ball over the empty dance floor. (We thought we were early) The lights were never dimmed throughout the night so you couldn't see the disco lights. The DJ refused to play any music the guest requested for the Disco effect and got upset when asked. People complained and left by 10:30pm. The DJ was terrible and kept his head down and continued playing through the stroke of midnight with the few remaining guest counting down on their own, when he finally realized it he played some lame new year's celebration music too late. It definitely was not what they advertised at all. Sorry to say someone dropped the ball that night and it wasn't the new years ball. Maybe miscommunication or lack of planning? Hopefully next year will be better for those who do go back. Happy New Year .

There are dancers of all ages, which is very cool, and the leaders who were forced to dance with me seemed to be understanding, even though I am an awful dancer. I guess everyone is a beginner at some point! I hope to go back and improve my skills!

Ok it's an old school private club... a dinner club. The Worcester Club is an institution for those…read morethat know of it and many do not. It has been an active social club since 1888. Why an institution? First... note the date that it was founded and second, not just anyone can join. Enough said. My family (in-laws) have been members for a very long time and thus I have eaten here many many times over the years. If you know someone who is a member, this is a wonderful place for a dinner or a party. The building is completely unassuming from the exterior but once you walk in to the main parlor the Worcester Club's interior is a stately example of how fine Victorian architecture was back in the day. We had my wife's 40th birthday here over the weekend and there were 9 of us. Of course, we had our own private dining room which is pretty standard for group of that size and larger. The food is excellent, but being not overly hungry I had a simple salad and winter vegetable and spinach risotto. However, there were little necks, oysters, shrimp and other apps being devoured at the table. Dinner plates varied from lamb to sirloin to seafood specials. They even made an off menu plate for my 5 year old. Everything was plated well and appreciated for what it was. We tend to only dine here for special occasions and will be back as soon as another get together is needed. As always, thank you to our host Richard and thank you to the WC.

Anyways, this place is your typical dance club with the added perk of having two dance floors. The one downstairs is just strange, as it involves a live band just drumming along loudly to backing music. There were also people playing beer pong and people sitting by the bar. Upstairs is a more traditional club atmosphere, with a large dance floor and a DJ spinning Top 40 music. There's even a projector with classic Mario Kart upstairs. We had a generally good time upstairs for the few hours we were there. The DJ was decent, the music was loud without being deafening, and there was a good crowd. There were a couple of creepers making the night weird, but I guess that's par for the course in Portland. We got a few buckets of whatever their house fruity drink was, and it was good, though pretty light on the alcohol. The bathrooms are tiny (only a few stalls), and the wait was about 10-15 minutes each time we had to go. Not good. And finally, my friend's coat got stolen in the coatroom, so don't bring a coat you can't afford to lose on a cold winter's night. Overall, it was a decent night out minus the stolen coat.
