We called and had a reservation at 6:30...arrived around 6:15....we were told a few minutes after 30 minutes asked again and the girl in the front responded with a few more minutes....now after 45 minutes sat at the bar waited 10 more minutes and no service ...we were seated ordered an appetizer....total of 3 hours our dinner came out I ordered filet oscar med rare...it came out well done and sliced up...NEVER have I gone anywhere and received a cut up filet... it was HORRIBLE ask for a manager .....She was Rude and told us she was going to call the police on us! This was our first time visiting this establishment. We arrived late afternoon, early evening, before the dinner crowd, at a little after 4. We understood that it gets crazy, busy later. Our server was phenomenal! The experience was interesting. It was just that, new and interesting. The first piece of steak I cooked was melt in your mouth, awesome! However, as it cooled the 'ROCK' left much to be desired. Also, in my opinion, we needed more space to "cook" as well. The seating is nice, but the tables are too narrow to accommodate 4 rock steak plates confortably. Long story short, it probably takes practice. A little pricey for cooking my own meal, but the cut of meat was prime and our company/friends were lovely as usual. So, next time, I'll probably order a burger to try those out. On the positive side, the beer was cold. The wives baked potato was great. My clam chowder was good. The downside, the breading on the coconut shrimp, and my wife's fish was dark and look like it was really old oil that hit had been cooked in dirty oil. It did not have a good flavor. My sirloin steak was extremely grizzly and tough. I would not recommend going there The service however it was good. This is a fun place! It is a chain so let's start there. You always are in for upper middle tier at best when that is the case. Usually a very busy place. Their gimmick is that you cook your own steak on a sizzling rock. They teach you how to do it. After getting over your amazement at the liability issues (no waiver or anything) you get a solid upper middle tier steak slathered in garlic butter. A loser bake potato that was well above average was my side choice. As well as a perfectly adequate salad It's a steak house so don't expect McDonald's prices. The novelty of the black rock is fun. We had a good server for our evening- Cassandra was friendly, efficient and kept our drinks full. She helped us to understand the menu and understand how to cook our food. We ordered 2 sirloins, a filet, bubble shrimp, a chicken dish, and tacos. Baked potatoes, salads, and clam chowder. Chowder was good. The butter you are encouraged to liberally use is solid. But overall the food is mediocre. The ambiance travels with you as while you dine the smoke from neighboring tables fills the restaurant and comes home with you. You know you were at a giant grill when you put your coat on the next day, also notable is how slippery the floor is. The space has a large bar, a big private party room and tables for multiple group sizes. Menu is changed and limited, unexciting. The actual menu was dirty and falling apart. The food is not as good as it used to be. Totally changed. Will not be going again. Davison is now looking shabby with downhearted-looking servers to match. The ladies' restroom bin for used paper towels was overflowing onto the floor (11/12/25). Obviously you pay for the experience, not the quality Steak was good but I wish they gave you a plate to move your steak off the stone so I didn't feel to eat it quickly I appreciated when I ordered off the kids menu for my child, the kids menu offers rock options and not rock options but when choosing a rock option the server asked if we wanted it cooked on the rock in the back versus at the time. Our kid is old enough to be fine with a hot rock so we chose that option but I appreciated the option. The sausage was supposed to come with peppers and didn't I had to ask for water refills which is both annoying and embarrassing - alcoholic drinks were weak The server definitely couldn't wait for us to leave. It was painfully awkward. They no longer offer sparklers for their volcanic dessert. The pictures still have sparklers and they don't mention it until you geek up your kids and ... it's not exciting. Hostess staff were patient and kind. I was surprised to see how busy it was at only 4pm on a Saturday! The steak was good, but ribs and fries were both cold. Not room temperature, but actually cold. Went to the Davison location on a Tuesday night. We were seated in a cozy booth, away from drafts and the restaurant seemed busier than i expected. Autumn, our server, was very attentive and great. I ordered my favorite Dynamite Chicken and Shrimp Pasta, my wife ordered Scallops. Both were very good. However, the Dynamite Chicken & Shrimp has not been as spicy as it used to be - more like an Alfredo dish. I recall this being much spicier in the past and was a little disappointed. Dessert was awesome. We ordered the turtle cheesecake, recommended by Autumn, and it may have been the best thing we've ever had. Overall, it was an enjoyable night out. Thanks Autumn! read more

Really depends on the day and the time of the week. Just ate here this evening 9-6-2024 and had two flys on our plates at different times. Kitchen door was left open over half the time I was there barely could talk over plates and staff. Appetizer came when steak came. Pro was that the steak was a very nice cut. I'm a red blooded meat eater. Where would I go to fill this terrible craving I'm having? You got that right! It's Black-rock for the win, I'm enjoying the steak on a hot stone. Quality meat is what I'm enjoying today. Juicy and full of flavor. The layout of this Black-rock is really cool. Rustic with a touch of modern. The bar appears to be full today. Plenty of seating in the high top booths so no complaints here. Lots of parking plus to separate entrances and exits to the parking lot makes traffic flow well. The staff is friendly and I haven't needed to ask for refills because my waiter is on it. Covid procedures are being followed and enforced. The bathroom and the floors are clean and ready for the white glove test. Great tasting asparagus as home style mashed potatoes. Very pleased from start to finish. I'm coming back for more and highly recommend this Black Rock location. read more

Steaks are always good and side dishes. Waitresses are friendly and cater to you. My friend and I have always loved your cheesecake! This time it was awful! Tasted like imitation filling. Off taste, very creamy like cool whip was in filling. We told waitress this and she said we can bring you another one or take 10% off your bill, cheesecake is 10.00. Service: Was pristine, we were greeted and sat as soon as we walked in the door. It was our first time and the waiter took the time to walk us through the menu which can be confusing. He made jokes and made us feel welcome. Gerald deserves a raise! Food: came out hot, fresh and presented flawlessly. All utensils clean. Ambiance: feel of the restaurant is amazing, it's an experience in itself. You can opt to cook your own food on the black rock or there are options to have them cook it for you. Price: it's a minimum of $25 per person, it's a higher end restaurant. You don't have to dress up but a lot of people dress nicer when they come here. Overall opinion: great service, great food, ok price, would come again but probably wouldn't come often. I use it as an excuse for a special occasions. read more

While in Flint, friends took me to Black Rock. Wow! I really love the fact because I got to cook my Angus steak and andouille sausage on a 755 degree volcanic sizzling rock, every bite was hot! This place is amazing. I went here with my finance for dinner and our server was Hannah. She was very generous and catered to our every need. The food was fantastic and I enjoyed the cook it yourself aspect. It adds a different vibe for a change. I'm not sure why people cry so much about coming to cook their own food. Try something new for a change. The place was bigger than I expected and of course very clean. I wouldn't mind going back to this place when I'm visiting Michigan again because it was amazing. I got gift cards for Black Rock from my father so thought I'd try it out with a friend. Here is how this hot mess of a visit shook out: Good: - Greeted promptly when we arrived and taken to a table - Server was friendly - I ordered my burger cooked medium and it was Not so good: - Our server didn't know she was to be our server so we sat for some time before she finally came by (we had to talk to the hostess who straightened out that confusion) - Even though it was noon on a Monday, it was already smokey in the restaurant from folks cooking on the rocks - my personal taste but I hate tvs all over the place...if Black Rock is trying to position themselves as a great place for date night, that is a completely non-starter for me...there is NOTHING romantic about tvs all over the place...basically its a sports bar - the smell of folks grilling their own meat on the hot rocks was nauseating...don't get me wrong, I love steak as much as the next person but the smell of raw meat hitting the hot stone was disgusting - I ordered a hamburger cuz I don't want to cook my own meal at those prices. The burger was "okay" and the fries were just barely warm when they arrived. My burger got cold while I waited for the server to bring me mustard, ketchup and mayo (she stopped to take another table's order and bring them drinks before bringing the condiments) - I ate half the burger and part of the fries (cold fries are not appetizing nor was the smell of raw meat being grilled) so I packaged up the rest to take home...but after thinking about it, I wound up ditching the leftovers at a gas station on the way home as I knew I would never eat them....they were barely "ok" to begin with and knew that reheating was going to not really help it at all Sadly, I still have about $45 in gift card to use... read more

Eh, middle of the road and definitely a bit disappointing.... We went here for a post funeral dinner after my mother passed away. It was middle of the day, they were not busy, seemed properly (if not overly) staffed in the front of house. We asked for tables to accommodate a party of 12 plus a service dog and said outdoor dining was fine (it was 80 degrees), but whatever was best. The staff literally didn't know how to accommodate that.. eventually after watching them stand around asking how do you do that with each other, I rolled my eyes in exasperation and said, "try two tables of six, and there's no one outside!" The hostess says, "oh yeah, we could do that- I don't know why I didn't think of that." Yeah, I don't know why none of you thought of it, either. Seriously... Anyway, we get our tables and the service was muddled at best.. our server was polite, but extremely untrained and spent more time discussing her tattoos and chatting up my nephew about his than she did waiting on our tables... she was very apologetic, however, in regards to the extremely long wait time for food to hit the tables... that was an absolute outage and not her fault at all. My husband and ordered a hot pretzel and dip app to start for ourselves. It took 45 minutes to hit the table. Other various apps for different members of the party took the same time and were slightly staggered. It was very odd. By this time I was about to pass out thanks to hunger. The entrees for the tables came an hour after ordering and everyone's food was delivered at separate times and some dishes were still missing certain items. My brother in law was missing a baked potato with the steak. My sister's salad was missing. Condiments on burgers were missing. My nephew hated his grilled vegetables and complained but nothing had been swapped out. My brother in law was nearly done with his steak before the baked potato hit the table. Most of the party liked their steaks, but the vegetables were disappointing. My veggie burger was kinda dry and grilled well done (I had asked for medium). It was okay, nothing great. The fries were good, the pretzel app was great, and my husband's burger was good (according to him). Still, even if food had been 5 star, the wait and inconsistent service weren't worth it. Prices were average, but I didn't pay much attention to the pricing of entrees since someone else was footing the bill. The menu had some decent items, even a veggie burger for non carnivores, etc. Ambience and outdoor seating were nice, but the roar of trucks traveling up & down the road was annoying if you're dining outdoors, inconsistent food, long wait times and poor service made it pretty middle of the road. read more

We had the slowest service last night, along with finding a hair in my food and tough steak plus one of our appetizers over cooked. The shrimp scampi is smaller than the size of a nickel too. Then waiting 30 minutes to get our bill that had mistakes on it to find out there was a mandated 20 percent tip added on it. It was a unique experience, but you always get the steak cooked the way you want it. You get 2 sides with you entrée. The mashed potatoes were ok. The green beans were good. I can't even begin to describe how how awful our food was. The Volcano Shrimps were very small, over cooked and tasteless. After a hour, our food came out and immediately our waitress said she would order new sides for us. The burger was okay. The Mahi Fish Tacos are cold to the touch and the flour shells were hard. Came here to celebrate some accomplishments with my best friend and my wife I drove almost 3hrs to meet him there. Server was very nice and took our orders. My best friend ended up getting a chipped tooth while eating his salad on what appeared to be little pieces of a broken plate. He was not even able to continue eating his salad. We immediately said something to which the manager came to take a "report". They brought our food. The mood was ruined at this point. He asked for to go boxes as he couldn't eat due to the pain and fear of breaking a tooth. I am extremely disappointed that I was not even offered compensation for his meal, that he couldn't even enjoy with us. When I mentioned this after paying almost $190 for our dinner and tip the manager offered a $25 gift card. That's all you can do!? You ruined a great experience and now my friend has to deal with getting a tooth fixed. I took the gift card and handed it to a customer waiting to be seated and told them to enjoy it because we won't be back! read more
