Great better than expected brewery. It's located in a strip mall, and we weren't expecting anything special. Black Lung is one of the best hangouts in Round Lake Beach, away from the beach of course. Has quite a few beers on tap as well as meads. The prices are pretty okay on most things. Came in here recently and we got a few beers. It's about $7 a pint. There's stronger ones that are more expensive but still not that much though. Best one among what I tried was the Cymatics. It's a maltshake IPA. This is supposed to taste malty. Amazingly it has zero lactose. The other one that was a favorite was the Galaxy 503, an IPA that's not too hoppy and has a sweet taste. Also they have mead and smoothies if you want something besides beer. The beer is good but there's a lot more. Has a pretty cool atmosphere. It only has beer and mead so there's no food menu. We come here 1-2 times a week for a leisurely bike ride. Their Kolsch, Mexican Lager and Blonde Ale are all really great. Staff is super friendly and responsive. Will have to come back for the live music. read more

Beer was average, service was good the owner/manager is a lazy guy sitting at the bar on a laptop trying to look important . It was sausage fest of bad mullets and bad entertainment .With all the brewery choices available this is definitely pass. read more

We are fairly regular customers. Since they opened, rarely a week goes by when we haven't paid them a visit. This visit we walked in, sat at the bar, and were acknowledged by the bartender "S", almost immediately, and then again about 15 minutes later after she waited on people who came in AFTER us, promising that "she would be right with us". After waiting 30 - 40 minutes to get a beer we left and went to O'Toole's. TBH, it wasn't even that busy when we walked in. We really like this neighborhood gem, but to say bartender "S" is jussst a little ditzy and has a short attention span is not an exaggeration. We initially attributed this to the pub being a new operation with new employees, but "S" needs to cut the chatter just a bit, and make sure everyone gets what they needs in a timely matter. Oh, and looking around the corner at what other customers aren't sitting in front of her would be good too. "S" is very nice, and very outgoing, but sometimes a little less yapping and a little more tapping (of the kegs) is in order. read more

In seeing another review here I can not echo a different experience at Black Lung enough. Online BL is VERY clear about their reservation, cleaning, mask and every other policy you can think of. Others appear to have had a bad experience but I'm going to guess that the table they were at they had not reserved and the table the moved to they had not reserved. The crew at Black Lung in our visits has been incredibly pleasant, curiosity, professional and knowledgeable. In addition to that they make some very fine beer and some of the best IPAs that I have had since District 14 in Bayview closed. In addition to that the bar top is one of the most beautiful pieces of work I have seen. It is worth the trip just to see that! I expect more delicious things from them. Keep up the good work and don't let those who do not take the health and safety of others into account bring you down! We can't wait to stop in again and also hope that the Thin Mint Stout comes back soon! read more

So glad that this brewery has finally opened. Beautiful bar top that must be seen in person. It's a work of art. Very friendly and attentive servers. Doing a great job of keeping it clean and sanitized during this crazy Covid time. Be sure to book a table ahead because it can get pretty busy. Beers are great, and good pizza and calzones can be delivered from next door. I bought into the mug club since I know I'll be coming back regularly. I Highly recommend checking it out. read more

Since I moved to this area almost 2 years ago I have said time and time again that there are no decent spots to frequent, that is not a chain restaurant, and we typically drive 30 minutes to get anywhere worth going to! Words cannot express how thrilled I was when we drove by and saw a brewery near by. The crew is beyond friendly, the bar top is absolutely beautiful, the BL brews are tasty, and there are several other options available aside from their own beer. Not to mention you can bring your own food or order from Ron's next-door (Pizza, sandwiches, pasta, etc.) which is also a great option. Returned on Saturday night for great beer, Gina Gonzalez, and Stix and Noodles. Celebration of the first anniversary of Black Lung Brewing. The place was beyond crowded, we were able to secure space at the end of the bar with some friends. Started out with the food truck, Stix and Noodles, fun terrific Filipino dinner. We had lumpia, pancit, and adobo chicken. Of course, we were drinking beer as an accompaniment. We did attend, specifically, to hear Gina, whom we have followed to numerous venues. Great as always. Joshua, the owner/brewmaster, stopped by to help us with ring bar game and tell us about the live-edge black walnut bar. But, he emphasized, the important thing was if we were enjoying the beer. Which we were. The ladies started with fruit smoothie thing which was interesting and good. I had the imperial stouts which were very tasty. The "mistake" beer was enjoyed by our friend. There were several other beers enjoyed throughout the evening. A very memorable night. read more

Not too much in a way of decoration in this brewery and the beer was not really any good as well. This brewery is in a non descriptive strip mall and might have a food truck or kitchen. Not sure. Overpriced and not good... I stopped in for a pack of beer, and went with the "No Talent A$$ Clown". Ended up being simultaneously the most expensive and disgusting 4-pack I've ever tried. I've had enough craft beers to appreciate complex flavors, but this really didn't work. I guess I expected the brewery to test the flavors it's producing. We were finally able to stop here last night. Yeah! AJ was out bartender and she had a lot of knowledge about the beer both the inhouse brewed and their guest taps. What a cool looking space too. Can't wait for summer to get here so that huge glass garage door can open! What a bonus to being at the end of a complex. Looking forward to stopping here in the future. I've been following this brewery at the beer fests for a few years now. When I heard they were opening a taproom I was excited to check it out. The bar top is absolutely beautiful and the beers are excellent (the Amber Lager was killer). They have something for everyone (including non-drinkers). The staff takes COVID seriously and is sanitizing tables between reservations and cleaning things like door handles regularly. The owner is approachable and always willing to talk beer with me. They have a new slow pour faucet which you don't see very often. If you do get hungry, there is a pizza place right near by that delivers too. What more could you ask for? read more

They have been heavy IPA focused since they opened recently but have begun to have a better variety of styles as time goes on. So can't wait to see all the new beers they have coming. Went here last night for the first time. Met up with some friends who were already there. It's 7:15pm on a Friday and the place is pretty packed. Good vibe. The server approaches myself and boyfriend, asks our drink order and kindly informs us our table is reserved at 8. I said no problem, we are just having a quick drink with friends. At 7:30 some large man, I'm assuming the manager or owner, once again comes over and informs us the table is reserved at 8, we all replied with yes the server already told us, it's only 7:30. We moved to another table, because honestly this guys already being a jerk with his little dick energy. Our friends, who are getting ready to leave, tally up their tab and grab beer out of a cooler, that honestly is not behind the bar and looks like a grab and go cooler OFTEN found at breweries. This larger man now accuses my friend of stealing (yes the heart surgeon needs to steal beer ) he apologizes and said I thought It was a to go cooler. I honestly am not paying much attention to their convo as I'm now at a different table, this man now approaches our table, says we have over stayed our welcome (there are 3 open table now in this bar) and says for us to leave. So in less than 45 minutes I've now experienced the rudest man in lake county... guys go to light the lamp. Better beer and they know what it means to be in the hospitality industry.
