The Black Horse is a pub/restaurant in a standalone building that's easily accessible from Norwich city centre on bus, foot, cycle, or car (parking available). Early reviews suggest it was once a B&B, something I haven't noticed in my few visits there as I've only come to have a bite or drink.
The interior is thoughtfully decorated with bookshelves and atmosphere is welcoming enough to sit solo or bring friends, but spacious enough to hear your own conversations and flag down a server. The seating is spacious and numerous both inside and out: barstools, tables, booths, and a considerably sized beer garden out back.
The bar offers your standard ales (£3 on Tuesdays), ciders, and cocktails. Upon first glance the dining menu looks limited, but there are a couple good selections. I've tried the Parmesan Chips and dips, desserts, and their burger with cheese, slaw and British bacon. The burger was surprisingly good--though most places offer some form or another, to be quite frank I've found a decent burger hard to come by in this area.
Not your quintessential pub (I'd say some menu items fall on the gastropub side of the spectrum), but a good starting point for food and drinks if you're in the Golden Triangle. read more
