Really cool health food store I had a great opportunity to stop at. Learned that they have been open for over three decades. I absolutely love that this store feels like I'm shopping in 90s. This store features a dine in restaurant as well fresh made grab and go items. Many, extraordinary health food and vegan items as well as hard to find items! There's an abundance of parking too! Prices are absolutely fair for what you pay for. They got great nutritional products as well. Overall, highly reccomend checking this one of a kind establishment out. read more

Always friendly and helpful service. Lots of Vegan/Vegetarian options. One of the few places around that focus on health and wellness. I just had a Vegan Sweet potato burger in a wrap and a three bean salad. Delicious. All you need for your one stop health shop! I take the good with some bad. No There me or place is perfect. If you can't find it at your local drug store vitamin aisle; you have given up on the GNC franchise in the strip mall; and you just don't trust that the stuff you can order online is pure enough, then it is time to visit Black Forest Acres. They have just about every vitamin, mineral and supplement imaginable, and usually from more than one manufacturer. Not only that, but the folks working there know where everything is. You are not left on your own to get on your knees to see what is on that bottom shelf in between the G's and H's. My search of Grape Seed Extract had come up empty at the potency, quantity and price I was looking for. Back in the day (1 year ago), it was available in every Rite Aid, and even in many supermarkets. Now, it is as hard to find as Rare Earth metals. Sure, anti-oxidants are becoming more popular, but supply and demand should make the necessary adjustments. Not so for GSE. So, I found myself at Black Forest Acres wandering along the long wall full of jars and bottles with nutritional elements arranged by manufacturer or distributor. A mind numbing experience. A cashier saw my perplexed visage and came over to assist. She found two alternatives, neither of which were the dosage nor price I thought acceptable. So, we both continued to search the shelves and came up with at least three more choices. The double bonus bottles @ 50 mg per capsule was close enough to my specs, and I bought two sets. Not cheap by any measure, but at least I had what I thought would help maintain my health. On the way to check out, I noticed the dining area on the other side of the building, and the small kitchen in back. The blackboard specials looked interesting (and even good for me), and I made a mental note to return to explore this corner of the Black Forest. read more

Excellent spacious health food store with a cafe. And the incredible thing about this building is that it used to be a movie theater decades ago -- where my spouse went as a kid. We were in the area to visit the sculpture museum and did not have many vegan options in this land of traditional Italian until we found this place. The cafe has tempeh salad that can be made into a sandwich or wrap, same deal with the vegan chicken salad. We chose the delicious pumpernickel wraps. There is a (vegan) quinoa sweet potato burger and several vegetarian burgers (with egg and cheese). The menu also has vegan chili, a daily soup, and many salads. And you can add soy cheese to sandwiches, just not sure which kind. The only non-dairy cheese I have found to be good is Daiya, but I have not tried Teese or many of the new ones coming out. We wish we had tried the vegan coconut frozen yogurt! They have wheatgrass at the juice bar and plenty of grab and go meals which make a nice alternative to crappy fast food. The large seating area is comfortable, and we grabbed some groceries on the way out. The manager was nice enough to see that we were new and asked us if we needed anything and also filled us in on the extensive renovations. The checkout staff is very friendly too. read more

Calling all vegetarians! This place is not only a fantastic place to shop for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and organic foods and cruelty-free products, but it's a place where a vegan can get a hot lunch at a great price ($4.50-$5--can't beat it!) Black Forest Acres serves up vegan chili daily, has at least one home-cooked, hot vegan entree at the counter, and has a solid amount of vegan sides, sandwiches, and ready-for-microwaving items in the "Grab 'n' Go" section. ALL of their produce is organic, and they carry Daiya "cheese" (my favorite). The people who work there are so gracious, friendly, and helpful. Now that they're aware I'm a vegan, they point out vegan items to me when I stop by for lunch and save me from accidentally ordering foods with dairy. Some of the grocery items may be a bit pricey (as expected--they're specialty items after all), but save your receipts because BFA offers a 10% discount on your entire order after every $100 spent. All in all, it's a great place, staffed with sweet people who really care about animals, the environment, and their patrons! read more

Black Forest Acres is a great little health food / organic food store right around the corner from my house. Here's a list of just a few of the wonderful things I've purchased there recently: - Kettle Chips Thai Garlic Potato Chips (these are potato chip nirvana!) - Rooibos Tea (lots of different brands -- this stuff's good for ya!) - Ostrich Burger Patties (I apologize to the vegetarians out there, but crappity crap these are good!) - Snapple Red Rooibos tea (the only place in the area selling this right now!) - Clif Nectar Bars (again, the only place in the area selling this new item now!) Black Forest Acres also offers organically grown produce, nuts, berries, frozen products, soups, salsas, herbal supplements as well as so much more. The staff is extremely knowledgeable (especially when it comes to the herbal supplements). My only complaint about this place is the same complaint I always have when it comes to organic/health food products -- the cost! Prices are a little high here, so go into this place with a plan, and try to stay away from impulse purchases or else the total bill might be astronomical... read more

I have to counter balance the ridiculously high reviews this place is getting. Lower quality and higher prices than Whole Foods, but people are giving this 4.5 stars? I don't see it. They have a really great selection of natural and supplement related items, but at a serious premium compared to Amazon and even Whole Foods. Their vegetable selection really needs help and some pricing as well. Two stars because of pricing. If they were more reasonably priced, they'd get 3 stars. Excellent store but just TOO DAMN expensive!

Love this place. I often go here to pick up lunch from their fresh, daily made selections. And if I miss lunch and have no dinner, they have a selection from lunch in ready to go containers at very reasonable prices. I was pleasantly surprised to find Black Forest acres, practically in my back yard. I am always looking for a healthy place to eat. I am so excited that I found them. They have a wonderful lunch menu made with Organic fruits, meats and veggies. I had a delicious Hummus wrap, stuffed with feta, roasted red peppers and veggies. It was so good. I was just in Black Forest Acres II (the other store not far from the original) looking for a few products that I like and that I recommend to clients (as a private Nutritionist). When I asked the owner if she carried any of the products, she said she did not and then continued to ream me and lecture me on the ingredients of the said products for 20 minutes. She was rude, disrespectful, and not even correct in her claims. I was trying to give her business and she actually belittled me to the point that I just walked out. I have never been treated so terribly, let alone by someone in retail! If this original Black Forest Acres is anything like the sister store, I will never step foot in it or recommend it to anyone. In fact, I now will be encouraging my clients to avoid both stores at all costs. read more

I've never seen a more miserable group of employees than at this store/restaurant. There are maybe two employees here that know how to smile or properly great and treat a customer. I know it's a health food store, but does everyone who works here have to suck on lemons during their shift? Even the owner mopes his way through the store, rarely acknowledging his victims of overpriced food items and poorly presented, prepared meals. He seems adverse to making eye contact. Is it guilt? Disrespect? Are customers the "hazards" of doing business? Can't figure this place out. Okay, maybe there are actually THREE people there who make you feel appreciated as you throw down your hard earned dollars, but overall the place needs a makeover-- the dining area is depressing and the overall exterior/interior appearance is uninviting. I wrote some time ago on my page about my love for a small local store called Black Forest acres in my area. I normally order many of my natural, vegan products online, but if ever I am looking for a new product or need to pick up one of my staple products, although a bit pricey, I can do that in a pinch at Black Forest acres. Well tonight changed all of that. My family and I have been vegan for a couple of years and stopped using products with certain chemicals like aluminum in deodorants and fluoride in toothpaste. I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable in this area. I walked into Black Forest acres in East Windsor and there was an employee at the counter that I didn't recognize(I am a regular at this location), although she was at the counter with a customer, she immediately shifted her attention to me and my whereabouts in the store...My mission was to purchase my favorite deodorant by Natures gate, Dr Bronners soap, toothpaste and a list of items that I didn't get to order online over the holidays, well of course I became interested in some other products. When you see a deodorant that you have never used before, do you just take it home to smell it? No...you open it, smell it and make your decision after that. Meanwhile, this woman is still staring me down and yells down the aisle in a very condescending and undermining tone that "I can't open up the products because they are natural and I could damage the product". With a simple "sniff test"? I doubt it. Am I the first person to pop open a deodorant cap to smell the product? I doubt that either....there is no safety seal, or wrapper that was disturbed or broken. She saw the look on my face then says "I am sorry if I offended you". Well if you have to say it, then you know you were absolutely offensive...so I put back the products that I was going to purchase, put my $300 list of products that I need to purchase for my family and drove to Whole Foods to buy the things I need for my family. Unreal. I literally just got stopped in the parking lot and told "I hope you know what you want, because we're closing in five minutes". I did, in fact, just need one item. But now I will NEVER, EVER be back. Clearly they don't care about customers AT ALL. By the way, it was 13 minutes before their closing time. It's unfortunate for them, because it wasn't a cheap item. Overpriced supplements. The produce is way past fresh. The customer service is very bad. Be careful with the prices on produce. The prices are often not correct and they will charge you more than the prices are listed. If you say something they will say sorry we forgot to update the price but they do not give you the price the item is listed for. read more

i guess i give it three and a half stars...It does have some different things you may not find anywhere else, although i find they stop selling some of the things i buy from the last times i was there...Overall, i find this store to be pretty expensive...Yesterday i picked up a very small package of Eden Foods, Buckwheat noodles, and it was almost ten dollars...sorry, my number keys aren't working on this laptop...i couldn't believe it...But, in general, food in the US, especially organic, is very expensive...The produce often looks wilted or older...and they serve meat at the deli. and in the store..i wish there were more health food stores that are totally vegan...Actually, i'm not sure i know of any that are totally vegan, except for maybe some raw food places....i also feel the store could be layed out better...Feng Shui'd would be good...So, it's worth going to, overall, especially if you can afford it... read more

I am updating my review of this place because their customer service has drastically improved since the last review I left. All the associates have been really friendly and accommodating. I mostly only go in for the frozen yogurt. It's so good I'm a little suspicious that it's not really what is advertised (only 8 - eight calories per ounce). There's no way to tell but if someone out there knows please tell me! Everything is still way overpriced here though so it's really for people who have a lot of expendable money and don't bother checking price tags or comparison shopping. read more

The clerk gave my wife the wrong product. I brought it back a couple days later to exchange for the correct product. I brought the receipt. However, because i did not have the non-existent "second piece of paper" - I was not to receive full credit. On top of that - Jennifer "the manager" got strangely aggressive and in my face. I used to like this store and shopped there for years. I purchased an item that i barely used because it had a negative effect on me. The store REFUSED to refund me, not even trying to make any compensation at all. There goes $20 down the drain. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT THIS STORE AGAIN!!!!!! Is this their idea of customer service? The company who makes the product said I had to take it back from where I purchased it. This was the 1st time that I ever returned an item back to that store.
