Coach Dave Dow, a former Muay Thai fighter, with significant international experience in Thailand…read moreand Japan, teaches students of almost all age ranges (4 and up). I am an adult student. I am a rank beginner, and I got to kick and punch in my first class. Coach Dave is a great instructor. Gentle and firm. He taught me how to put a headlock on one of my classmates who towered over me (well, my classmate was nice enough to bend down a little, too!). He pushes me, and I sweat freely by the end of class, leaving cortisol behind and swimming in endorphins. He manages classes with students of significantly different experience and strength levels. I added Muay Thai classes to my weekly weight training, and the moves--foot work, elbow throws, and knee throws--add so much extra training of my other muscles. They challenge and improve my balance and core and have boosted my physical confidence like crazy. We also spar in class, which I never expected to like, but my classmates are thoughtful and engaged in trying to maintain good form and getting better with our moves - they have all been super helpful in observing my form and providing constructive observations as we spar. I highly recommend Coach Dave Dow's classes. If you live in Murfreesboro, Coach Dave's place is right across from the Lascassas Pike Kroger and right beside Papa John's Pizza. Check out the website for more information.

Professor Ralek Gracie is the most professional yet humble Instructor I've ever had, and I've been training in Mixed Martial Arts since I was 15. I stepped down after two & half years of coaching underneath the HoJo Elite / Showtime imprint…read more During that time I coached two of their HoJo Elite travel baseball teams (different age groups) through five fall/summer seasons. I met many amazing players and families during that tenure; a vast majority I still speak with today. Through the ups & downs of wins & loses, the instruction and development remained consistent. The environment I created at practices & games always facilitated the best to come out in players, and their parents took notice. I can truthfully say that every player showed personal growth within their baseball capabilities by each season's end. Unfortunately, after the numerous hours spent on the field, at the facility, and traveling, getting compensated by the program was never easy. I was classified as a "pro coach" by HoJo Elite and paid a coaching stipend for each fall/summer season. I was told the stipend would be paid upon the conclusion of each season. However, it usually arrived two to three months after, if not much later. I was also an employee & private trainer at the Showtime facility as well, and usually lost work availability due to the scheduling demands of coaching their two travel teams. This created a financial situation that was hard to manage. One fall, I was able to request month to month payments of the stipend. This helped out greatly, and I requested the same be done moving forward. The program agreed, and to my unpleasant surprise I received no amount during any of the pay periods promised last season. I sent a cordial response to management that I would be stepping down after the completion of each team's season due to the lack of income I was receiving. Instead of allowing me complete both seasons and receive pay, HoJo Elite removed me from coaching responsibilities. The players and their parents were devastated upon hearing the news. The players wondered why I was abruptly gone all of the sudden. It appeared as though I'd abandoned the players, which was far from the truth. Luckily, this decision did not hinder any friendships I had made with the former players & families. To this day, I still haven't been paid for my coaching over the past season, for either team. My experience with the program was not a pleasant one to say the least. I'm disappointed that the services provided to players in order to development & enhance their performance was striped because management could not support their own. With a price tag that doesn't come cheap for its players & families, I urge caution in what you're truly purchasing. In my experience, the exceptional instruction was not compensated as promised, even after player fees were collected. I hope that's not the case with the other teams. Too often today, facilities oversee numerous youth travel teams solely to collect a dollar amount. They promise you instruction, development, and exposure - but at the end, they're more preoccupied with their overhead. If you are a parent, paying for those very things, I hope the amount you pay for a pro coach is justified and rewarded. I make my living as a coach. It's my primary occupation. Without compensation, I cannot provide a service. A service that helps players not only become better, but grow in life experience & teaching. A service that places the players first. One that is appropriately priced, budgeted and worth its weight in expertise. Please tread carefully when selecting a home for your son, as quality coaches & mentors are becoming rarer due to the misuse of appropriate funds.

I haven't played softball for 11 years so when I found out I was playing in the City of Hope…read moreCelebrity Softball Game I knew I needed help. I had asked some friends if they knew of any batting cages in the Franklin Tennessee area and all of them said there was this great place called Showtime Sports Academy. The first time I walked in there was so much activity going on and it seem like a great place. I met Glenn Johnson who along with his father Howard runs the place. I told him my situation and he immediately knew what to do. He set me up in the softball batting cages and made me feel right at home. I've been back a few times and I have to tell you the customer service there is truly spectacular. I have watched their instructors teach several kids different levels of baseball and softball and they know their stuff. There is so much room and the fact that its indoors makes it great for rain or shine and even hot or cold outside. I must go back and again tell you about their customer service because I feel like part of a special family just walking in there. Parents are known as soon as they walk through the door and the kids I have watched are happy and eager to learn. Glenn and his team are doing something right and even when the Celebrity Softball Game is over I know I will be coming back. Thank you Showtime Sports Academy for a wonderful experience and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Sincerely, Shawn Parr NashFm 1033

However, after 2 years here I've seen little to no improvements in the areas that were concerning to me when we first started. I'll keep this short and to the point. Perhaps someone in charge will see it and take these issues to heart as I have had quite a few conversations with other parents expressing similar concerns: Pros: - Front office knows their job and is always able to answer questions quickly -Central location that is easy to get to - They offer a lot of extra events like Parent's Night Out, Dipper Camps, Ninja Clinics if you are interested in paying extra fees to participate. Cons: - Extremely limited parking - The building itself is way too small for the operation they are running. Students can't spread out and are often all clumped up and bumping into each other. -Class sizes are huge now (both gymnastics and ninja). My kids spend A LOT of time standing around waiting their turn. For nearly $200 dollars a month, it's maddening. -The coaches don't appear to make any connection with parents unless they know them personally - The viewing areas are jam packed, hot & stuffy, and generally uncomfortable. I can't for the life of me figure out why they don't at least have an oscillating fan upstairs. Nearly every mom I have ever chatted with there complains about how hot it is upstairs. There is limited seating up and downstairs so plan on standing if you can't arrive early. Getting in and out of the building is a nightmare with how jam packed it is. I don't know how this isn't a major fire hazard to be honest? -The building is so crowded in the late afternoon/evening hours that its extremely loud and often distracting for the younger ones. They have kids crammed in every corner of the gym so it's challenging for them to stay focused. -We have gone through quite a few coaches in our 2 years there. We've never been notified of a coach leaving or a new one being introduced. Some coaches have been wonderful, loving, and genuinely committed to properly teaching the sport. Others have seemed less than enthused, or even mildly annoyed to be there. I'll end here. I think you get the point. All in all- we wanted to love it. For what we pay- we SHOULD love it. At this point, I am actively looking for a better option for my kids even if that means we have a longer commute. Or maybe I'll get lucky and the continued growth of Murfreesboro will bring a new gym to town.
