Our daughter, who has been going for 3 years, has grown so much through her time at the academy--not only in her Jiu-Jitsu skills, but especially in her confidence and belief in herself. What really stands out about Bruno Lima Jiu-Jitsu is the positive impact it has on people both on and off the mats. Many students who have trained under Bruno have gone on to branch out and open their own academies. They are a true reflection of Bruno's professionalism, teaching style, values, and commitment to developing good people--not just good Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. It says a lot about Bruno and the environment he has created that his former students continue to carry those same values into their own gyms and communities. The coaches and members create a positive, supportive, and family-oriented environment where everyone is encouraged to improve and become better both on and off the mats. We are extremely grateful to Bruno Lima Jiu-Jitsu for the impact it has had on our family. It's more than just a Jiu-Jitsu academy--it truly feels like a second family. We highly recommend Bruno Lima Jiu-Jitsu to anyone looking for a place to learn, grow, build confidence, and become a better person.

I had messaged this gym on my interest in doing a drop in for a day or two. I received a response back with no issues. The place was easy to find and had parking around the perimeter. I walked in and was greeted by Jason (the owner) and Valerie. They were both very welcoming and all smiles. After the waiver, Jason took me on a quick tour of the facility. The upstairs was like a recreational room with a TV and a couch, with some locker rooms. I noticed it was very clean and well kept. You can over look the gym from upstairs. Downstairs, after passing a hall way with more locker rooms, you arrived at the main training room. One giant room to fit a boxing ring, a large area of mats (where we did our BJJ class), and a workout room of free weights and a large rig for pull-ups and squats. Brandon is their black belt instructor and he was very welcoming and enthusiastic when he teaches and talks. Great energy even though he taught a Muay Thai class just prior to BJJ class. A standard BJJ class on warm ups, followed up with instruction and positional rolling, with live rolling. I did noticed that Brandon goes around the class as he assist and watches his students drill the move of the day. I had no issues with rolling with any of his students or him. Everyone had great attitudes. *Observations of the gym* I did noticed there were times that Valerie would walk around to clean equipment or windows. This shows that they care for the gym and members. I'm not sure if they have showers. This gym does have a nice 'family' vibe to it, but I did not see any kids or know the policy of having kids around. Overall, great place to visit or to become a member.

My son has been a part of Gracie Barra since June 2022. It is his favorite class. Coaches Eric and Sierra are amazing coaches. So patient with the younger kids. It's definitely not easy to teach such young kids when they're have a hard time sitting still, but they somehow make it work. They promote discipline well as listening skills and the ability to follow directions. It's a great way to get exercise but also learn beginners self defense. They make the classes a lot of fun for these younger kids. If you have any kids this is the school I would highly suggest. I can personally say we will be with the school for a very long time to come it is well worth the money. This year my son went to his 1st Jujitsu tournament with the help of his coaches during rhe entire tournament. So glad to have these 2 wonderful people teaching our area the world and art of Jujitsu!

My son learned so much during his time here, not just in technique but in discipline and confidence. The positive impact it had on him was noticeable both on and off the mat. Since moving away, we've been trying to find a new gym, and it's been surprisingly difficult because nothing compares to what we had here. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of this program. What started out as a great experience for my son has turned around drastically. During a sparring…read moresession, a coach decided to call my son out "you can't just lay there" multiple times. He was going against a girl that was two belts higher and is very good at JJ. He was trying to get out of her guard. My son after the third time being called out in front of his peers got embarrassed. I could see his body language start to give up. So at water break I told him I know you're not just laying there but try something different. She eavesdropped on our convo and didn't agree and kinda shouted "I was just giving constructive criticism" from across the room. I have coached kids before and that's not how you do it. I expressed this and told her maybe say "hey try this, or do that" but wasn't heard. After practice we settled it, shook hands and said we would put it behind us. A week later we get a text that we aren't welcome any longer. We have been blocked and she will no longer communicate with us. I asked if I could bring my son by so she can explain why he's no longer welcome with honesty, because he witnessed everything, and she has declined to answer. One of her points was that women get a bad wrap in the JJ community. I told her I have daughters of my own and empower them everyday, and she rolled her eyes and laughed. Now that we are gone I can look back and notice a few things for people to know before signing up. They teach in Clearlake/Ukiah/and Windsor in one day. By the time they get to Windsor they look tired, are late a lot, and most of the time just look like they are going through the motions to be done with the day. My son started out not wanting to go but ended up looking forward to it, making friends and being eager to learn. Bruno and Martel know their craft and helped my son progress in the span of 8 months. For an ego to get in the way of a good student and teammate has me very upset. My son's feeling will be hurt but we will put this behind us and go elsewhere.

In response to the negative review, that decision was made because on multiple occasions many of the parents in the waiting area smelled so strongly of marijuana.
