There's more of a selection in the evening than at lunchtime and that's reflected in the price. The waiting staff (bizarrely for a Chinese restaurant, none are Chinese - in fact mostly Polish, which is not bizarre for Basingstoke!) are quite attentive and always clear your plate away almost the second you've finished eating. The restaurant itself is actually underground, which is a little odd, but the decor is quite contemporary and light so you don't actually notice the fact that there are no windows - although the table layout does resemble a staff canteen and you do sometimes end up sitting quite close to other couples. This is not a Chinese for a romantic meal out, but one to go with colleagues for lunch or take the kids to. Overall, if you're looking for good value chinese food where you can eat till you're totally stuffed for a fraction of the price of a traditional Chinese, then the Wusungdan is the place to go. Incidentally, if you're disabled or have young kids there's a rear entrance with a lift for wheelchairs and pushchairs, as the front entrance has a staircase only. They also now do a takeaway service too.

I don't think the prices are any more expensive than any other Chinese restaurant - but even if they are, the quality of the food at the Jade would certainly justify it. The peking and thai feast is particularly popular and great value if there's a group of you - three courses including an excellent selection of hors d'oeuvres, crispy duck, and a selection of main courses for under 20 quid a head - and believe me, there's plenty of food for your money! Special occasions such as christmas and new year are brilliant fun at the Jade as Frankie, the owner, will put on the karaoke system (although as everywhere the price goes up a little on those nights). I don't have a bad word to say really - it's the best chinese restaurant i've ever been to, anywhere. And they own the takeaway next door, Kings, which serves the same outstanding grub for you to enjoy at home. Went back the other night for a farewell dinner for a colleague of my wife, who was visiting from overseas, and amazed that staff remembered our name - and no, we didn't do anything outrageous last time! Food excellent from one of the set menus, service attentive without being in the slightest bit pushy, and although there seemed to be some kind of electrical trauma going on - lights flickering occasionally - we enjoyed a long, relaxing and delicious dinner. It's a very unassuming looking frontage that gives no clue as to the interior. We ordered the chefs special set menu with the lobster option to start. Our lobster was presented live and huge before being chopped up and braised in a wok with ginger and spring onion. Sublime! We had a selection of 5-6 other dishes, including King Prawn in black bean, baby squid, chilli fillet beef, chicken in yellow bean plus rice. It was £24 per head (minimum of 2). The sake comes warm in its own little bath and the service is impeccable - knowledgeable, friendly staff who really care about their food.
