I'm glad we chose this place over the others. The service is warm yet efficient and a complimentary nibble was provided whilst the chef cooked our order. I ordered a chicken achari, one of my favourites and was not disappointed. The curry was perfectly spiced and had a rich and complex taste to it, definitely one of the best curries I've ever had (which is quite a few!). The appearance of the food had been thought of too with slices of green shoots adorning the tops of the curries, rice served in pyramid shapes and the naan breads served in pre-cut quarters. With seven or so Indian restaurants in Newbury town centre at the mo, they're all doing banquet nights on different nights, so it's possible to live like a king all week (if you can handle it!). Jaipur staff are always friendly and never surly, the place is clean and lighting/seating a bit more private and relaxing than most local competitors. And Jaipur do a nice sideline in kitsch merchandise from time to time!

We advised the waiter again and he said he would get the chef. The chef didnt come and a man, assuming it was the manager came out spent 5 minutes talking about us to the waiter in his language, then took a further 5 minutes to come over to us. He said they had good reputation for 23 years and he would sort it out. He left us for 10 minutes and we were wondering what was going to happen, then he came and cleared the plates and the food, sighing and tutting. The waiter then brought us 2 hot towels. The man came back out and spoke to the waiter again who gave us the bill! We said we were not paying for the food as we had not eaten, so we paid for the poppadoms and the drinks only.
