I was not super excited about spending thousands of dollars on flowers, especially when I didn't really know anything about them. The team at Black Dahlia took the time to explain everything before booking. They also didn't make a big deal that I didn't want centerpieces(which I've heard a lot of florists won't work with you if you don't do centerpieces). I ended up doing a garland over the pergola outside, flowers on the greenery wall behind the sweetheart table, a garland on the sweetheart table, flowers on the cake, 8 boutonnieres, 4 corsages, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, and my bouquet. When we sat for the final meeting, they had books of flowers I could pick from, and when I explained I wanted me florals to be "moody" they understood and executed perfectly(meanwhile my husband was like wtf is moody?!) lol read more

Working with cheryl and sonia these past few months leading up to my wedding has been a breeze! I was referred to them bc one of my friends used them for hers and they were so happy with them, so i gave it a go. They were both so patient and really elevated my vision helping me stay in budget. I had bought these simple decorate dishes and had round up sea glass. that i pretty much would buy out every chance i would get from home goods or tj maxx! I went over days leading up to my big day with dropping off items for centerpieces, dropped off swatches of materials that i used and wanted to be wrapped around the girls bouquets, mom and grandmas corsages and my mother in laws bouquet. once your a bride and the day happens you lose all concept of time. so when my flowers arrived it was before my photographers were scheduled to come so i was happy because that meant i wasn't waiting around for a delivery to take photos. when i arrived at the venue there Sonia was starting to assemble my tables and they looked so pretty and simple which is what i wanted! they had set up my pieces for outside for the ceremony... and then the venue opted to shift everything inside because well rain decided to make an entrance so much for getting married in the outdoors in the summer but nothing i could do about that... with that said they had finished setting up inside all 29 tables for my wedding and really didnt have to stick around... but instead they helped bridgeview move everything from the tables to make room for my 260 guests to be seated now inside in the dining area where 15 tables had to be moved to the other side.... wait for the ceremony to happen and then move the tables back... thank goodness my priest made it quick because he knew we already were on a time crunch with the wedding and while guests moved into the cocktail hour room 15 tables and centerpieces had to reappear! i got so many compliments on my beautiful bouquet. the orchids were fresh and vibrant. i really enjoyed working with Sonia and Cheryl throughout the process... but so very grateful for Sonia and her staff who stuck around and made my wedding day happen without having this bride stress! thank you so much highly recommend working with them and using them in the future! read more

I used black dahlia as my florist for my wedding venue and it was the best decision I ever made. Black dahlia was one of my favorite vendors to work with. I had met with three florist prior to meeting with Sheryl . I wasn't impressed with any of the other florist.Sheryl instantly saw my vision and I knew she was the one I needed to decorate my wedding venue. She thoroughly looked at pictures of my inspiration for what I wanted my wedding to look like. She made a whole centerpiece sample the first day we met. I also wanted black dahlias in my centerpiece and she told me they would not be in season for my wedding. But she hand sprayed mums to look like them and it was impressive. I had other florists who just showed me books of their work and no samples.She did such an amazing job for my wedding. I am still getting compliments about my centerpieces. My sister used Black Dahlia for her flowers for this past Saturday at her wedding. I can't speak enough to the level of professionalism and care they took in helping my sister have the best day possible. My sister opted for our bridal bouquets to be half silk flowers and half real. No one would believe that half of our flowers were fake. I'm currently in the midst of plucking out the real flowers and replacing them with fake look alikes to make my bouquet a nice little memento of the evening. They even used scraps from our dresses to wrap around, helping us identify ours should we have put them down (we each wore different color dresses) Right before my sister's ceremony was to start, it began to down pour, meaning we could no longer have the ceremony outside at the venue as intended. With time not on our side, the crew at Black Dahlia jumped in and began helping to move chairs (and beach balls) into the indoor ceremony area. My sister helped me find Black Dahlia which also happened to be on the preferred vendor list for my venue. We were pressed for time but luckily found that Black Dahlia was available. They had the best prices out there. Pros: Sonja helped me create a vision for my floral arrangements all over email and phone since I was long distance. She also helped me look for ways to cut down on cost. She provided votive candle holders for me to rent at no charge. She was on top of things more than I was! Cons: The pillar to hold the floral arrangements at the church were missing so the arrangements weren't as visible which I was bummed about (I still don't know why they weren't there). I tried calling between the ceremony and reception to communicate with anyone from the company and got no answer 3 times. Where do we begin. The experience my husband Joe and I had with Sonja at Black Dahlia was nothing short of a dream. When we started our wedding process, we had so much anxiety around how we wanted our day to look. We started with just white flowers and some greenery. We had our first appointment with Sonja and right off the bat we vibed with her. She was so patient in trying to understand how we wanted our day to look while also helping us in checking some other things off our list. We left that appointment feeling super connected and trusted her with making our day perfect. We hit that point that I think every couple does, Oh shit I don't know if thats what we actually want! We made another appointment with Sonja, she will do ANYTHING to accommodate you within reason, and we workshopped for almost 3 hours. We left that appointment JAZZED about how our day would look now that we got over the "no color" hump. Cut too our wedding day. When I tell you our day looked like a dream because of Sonja I don't say this lightly. She met us at our hotel with floral we needed for photos, she arrived at the venue early, and made sure everything was perfect. When Joe and I walked into our reception space we nearly passed out. We were moved to tears and I couldn't believe how absolutely PERFECT Sonja made our day. Our guests kept saying our wedding was elegant, classy, not overdone and the word magical kept coming up. I found Black Dahlia Inc at a bridal expo at Suffolk community college. Right away I knew I liked their style and decided to make an appointment to go over what my vision was for our wedding. I met with Sonja and we clicked right away. Her bubbly personality and great ideas were exactly what I was looking for in a vendor. I was on a budget and she was so accommodating and respectful of that, and offered a ton of ideas of how to get the look I wanted while staying within budget. Unfortunately something came up for Sonja and she was unable to decorate my wedding, but instead I ended up working with the owner Sheryl. She was equally as nice and although I was bummed about losing Sonja I was still confident everything would turn out beautiful. On our wedding day everything was stunning! The flowers were fresh and vibrant and exactly how I pictured them. There was a temporary bit of confusion- I had forgotten to add flowers onto my contract for the bride and groom table and added it on at a later date- and it wasn't added to the contract leaving our table empty at first. Sheryl felt terrible and ended up adding a gorgeous arrangement to the table that was more than I could've asked for! My fiancé and I were first introduced to Black Dahlia through the Commack Wedding Center. We went to their shop once for a meeting to discuss my bridal party's bouquets and they were given a photo of what I would have liked my bouquet to look like. They were very friendly and open to all of our ideas. The day of the wedding the flowers arrived on time, and we were blown away. They took the photo and created EXACTLY what I wanted. I couldn't have been happier! All of the flowers looked amazing, especially in photos. The only mishap was that they did not provide us with enough pins for the guy's corsages, but they quickly came back to our location and delivered more pins. Since we did not directly hire Black Dahlia I do not know what the price would have been, but for what we paid we thought it was an excellent value. I am so happy that we hired Sonja for our wedding flowers. Everything was beautiful, and I was so at ease from start to finish. I planned my wedding for almost 3 years and made at least two separate meetings before booking a wedding vendor, until I met with Sonja. I went to the initial meeting with my mom, we got to the car and I thought to myself, "Why am I not booking this right now?" I just got such great vibes from her, I knew she was the perfect florist for me. I went back in and put the deposit down because I knew I didn't want to lose her to another bride!   I showed her a few pinterest pictures and gave her a couple of descriptions and she literally had my entire wedding vision on paper in 10 minutes. I felt like I was sitting and chatting with one of my friends. It was such a fun and comfortable experience. I had told her from the very beginning that I had a very small budget for florals. Most vendors give you the stink eye the second you bring up money in the first meeting. Sonja assured me that she had just been married and knows the feeling. She gave me different ideas and ways that we could modify the order in order to save money. We used in season florals and I had simple flowers. My bridesmaids held simple baby's breath bouquets, and they were the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen. This meeting was 2 years before my wedding. I was so happy and content with what she planned and did in that initial consultation, I literally never changed a thing over that two years and I never even needed to schedule another meeting.   The day of the wedding, everything arrived exactly on schedule and exactly as discussed. The flowers stayed beautiful the entire wedding. No wilting, no stray flowers. They were safe and secure. Even when I threw the bouquet at the end! There was another wedding in the church right before ours. The second the other wedding ended, they went into the church and set up everything in just a few minutes so that the waiting guests still walked into the decorated church.   Overall, my wedding flowers were just so perfect and I couldn't think of anything I would change even if I tried! :) read more

After having to postpone my wedding twice I was extremely hopeful that Black Dahlia would be understanding to the consumer in regards to giving their money back when the event did not take place. The manager of Black Dahlia was rude and unwilling to issue a refund. They are holding a portion of our money for services that were not rendered. No flowers were ever made because the event is not taking place. They were also provided 2 months of notice that the event would be canceled. I hired them close to a year prior to my wedding. When the one year mark came, Sonja sent up a "mock" or sample centerpiece for me & I was able to tweak things the way I like. Don't let the 3 stars fool you, black dahlia was great to work with and our flowers were beautiful. It was very hard to communicate with them as they never answered any emails and were rarely available to talk on the phone. On the day of the wedding drop off was quick, the delivery girl barely explained whose bouquet was whose and that the ring bearers boutonnière had a clip on it. Which wouldn't have been a problem except that the groomsmen were at a different location so we had to swap them out at the church. She did mention the maid of honors bouquet was significantly bigger and we would be able to tell it was hers, and they all seemed to be the same size so I don't know that she had a "bigger" bouquet. My bouquet was supposed to be tear dropped and wasn't what we pictured tear dropped to be, we thought it would have had flowers hung off the front of the bouquet but they took it as one side being more full..I don't know, it was still a beautiful arrangement. Other than those things, they were accommodating to us as we had to cancel some things we could no longer afford from our original contract after Covid and we're easily to rebook during the pandemic. read more

We cannot say enough about Black Dahlia, Inc., who provided exquisite floral details for our daughter and son-in-law's wedding on 7/13/19. Sheryl and Sonja captured the essence of Jillian's vision in exquisitely coordinated floral pieces for the church pews, bouquets, the wedding cake, a bird cage to hold wedding cards, a feature piece for the place card table and centerpieces for the reception ballroom. Sonja even carefully sewed a cross from Jillian's great-grandmother onto her bridal bouquet the morning of the wedding. Every last detail was perfection for Jillian and Louie's dream wedding day! I have been the receiver of many of their bouquets. My boyfriend will only order from them and I see firsthand why. The floral varieties they use in their arrangements are beyond breathtaking. There is nothing cookie cutter about them. Most florists use the same type of generic flowers in the same boring arrangement. Not The Black Dahlia.
