Oh dear oh dear.
I don't know where to start. It may well be the perfect place for some, but this is not the place for me. After we'd made our way through the bouncers, I thought I'd be transported to Flares, because the first thing that struck me was the garish lasers flitting over the floor and walls, and the cheesy music. It was far too loud, given no one was really in the place, and so ordering drinks was a bit of a chore.
Lasers and awful music is one thing, but then came the next stage of disappointment. The drinks were terrible. The first pint I had was served flat. We asked the bar maid about this, and her solution was to pour out the entire pint into a new glass, and top it up with yet more flat lager. That's the strangest fix I've ever seen - usually I'd go for checking the gas, and failing that offer a new pint. But no.
Thusly, my drink was still terrible. And let's not go over the gin and tonic scenario again.
The beer garden was the only redeeming factor, being large with plenty of seating, and a smoking shelter. I noted the big sign, welcoming us to our "great local", and I needn't point out the irony. But I will - it's neither my local, nor did I find it great.
Basically, it's fair to say I won't be going again. If at least the beer was decent I'd perhaps tolerate walking through the bar to get to the outside area, but that's really if it was five minutes from my house, and even then that's a push. I think others may agree, given that there were all of 5 people drinking there, and the pub opposite was packed.
Definitely not to my tastes. read more
