Having been to many a pub never have I been spoken to by the manager like this. I used to use this…read morepub to watch football matches in, it was close to where I live. On this occasion, whilst happily watching the football, the manager/owner, who knows asked me to move. I was not in anyones way. I then got swore at to "****ing move as I cannot see the TV". I'm reliably informed that the Waggon was "the place to be" for all the years my friends have lived…read morein Sudbury. Boasting good music and a fine selection of beers. So it was with some trepidation that we embarked on up the road to it knowing full well that hands had changed since last the horde had watered there. We had little to fear. The place is huge, but separated out into a myriad of smaller rooms, some with pretty bits of paraphernalia and one in particular with a glass floor that looked down into the old cellar. "The glass can take a 2 tonne weight" the barman had pointed out helpfully to the panicked girl trying to keep her drunk friends from jumping on it. The Waggon is now part of a brewing franchise so the beers on tap were all custom to the area. A Christmas beer on sale Red Santa was particularly nice but their ordinary fare was also nice. The restaurant wasn't that busy but the food whisking past us looked nice. There were few staff members on (i suppose it was the night before new year, no doubt girding their loins for tomorrow night). But everyone who worked there was friendly and didn't mind suggesting beers when they noticed our "lost in a candy shop" eyes wondering over the taps. The music was interesting but it was all from a CD player behind the bar and they were happy to take requests so i suppose its what you make of it. But i think the thing to conclude is that you will walk past a half dozen pubs on your way to the waggon (and walk you must!), each will be quiet and filled with locals who do the "turn to watch the stranger" thing country people love so much. But you will find perhaps not a more welcoming bar but one more accustomed to a mixed crowd. What i mean to say is i'm sure given time and effort you could break the crowd at the local bar and have a riot. But you'll slot right in at the Waggon without the need for trying. So there it is, enjoy!

this place is a really nice place to go however it does seem more upper class than any of the other…read morelocal pubs. named after a local buisness man that died and has done well in the few years that it has been open. i dont think is anymore expensive than most of the pubs in sudbury however it does look like it should be a lot more exspensive i wouldnt pop in for one its not really a pop in place its more of a meeting friends and haveing a few quiet drinks

Perfect for when the summer arrives. Certainly not the case today. Lovely welcome by the front of house manager. Obviously a very Italian influenced restaurant as all the staff we saw were Italian. I learned later that it was a family run business, and it showed in the service. Nothing was too much for them. As I said, we popped in for a snack and ordered a drink and mussels with a portion of fries (very Belgian, my heritage). The mussels were chosen from the starters menu. When they arrived they were in a delicious cream and chilli sauce. The quantity was outstanding. Starter???? We have been in restaurants where this quantity was a main course. With a choice of toasted bread slices. The fries were magnificent and, also, enough for two people. As we ate the chef came past and asked if we liked the mussels 'the way my mama taught me'. 'Use your spoon for the suppa'. A great character and he did know his trade. A very interesting menu and we will return in the evening, some time, to try their main menu. Worth a trip when the weather is fine for, maybe, just a drink from the bar watching the river flow by and the kayaking.
