When the new owners took over in November of 2022, they renamed the store Rustic Rose Mercantile. From my understanding, I believe that the new owners kept much of the same vibe/ambiance as Rustic Roses, but they have added even more local artists and color to the store's whimsical displays. I stopped in here recently. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. He was helpful whenever I had questions about their inventory. I didn't have much time to browse, due to time constraints, but I did spy a plethora of fun finds during my brief visit. I ended up purchasing a 'soft edged arrowhead shaped piece of what I believe is jade strung on a cord' necklace. The gentleman behind the counter (who I believe may be one of the owners) explained that a local family makes the necklaces and that they bring them by the store to be sold. Many of Rustic Rose Mercantile's showcased jewelry artists are local. Jill King is one my favorite local jewelry artists - and she has a stunning turquoise necklace being sold here - along with her other well crafted jewelry pieces. In addition to a plethora of local and vintage jewelry items, Rustic Rose Mercantile has decor items, clothing, candles, antiques, crafts and much more. Everywhere you look inside this spacious spot - you'll find something new. They even rent out a decent sized portion of their store to a local comic book seller/collector. My new jade necklace rests on me as I type this. I love the way that the coldness of the stone warms against me. Locally made warmth. Trust.

So, I have to say that I appreciate the review by Chiquita. I would not support any business that…read morewas as intolerant as she suggests. However, I do think that the business has changed hands and judging by what I saw of the new owner, I doubt that she has such an attitude. But you never know. And the reason I did not give another star is based on my own experience. I actually really liked the place. It has an authentic feel and I can tell that the owner and her employees really like what they are doing. They know their history and they know there product for the most part. I have to say however, that I was misled, perhaps unknowingly, but misled nonetheless. You see, I do my best to try and purchase as many American made items as I can find. Therefore I generally do a lot of my clothes shopping online because that is where one can find USA made rather than sweatshop goods made usually in China, Mexico, Bangladesh, or India. So when I find a shop that actually has American made goods in their inventory I want to support that store so that they will continue to buy and sell American, and hopefully Union made, items. I asked these folks about this and found out that indeed they do have lots of USA product. I was quite happy to see this. Since I was in the market for a new bowler hat I looked through their hats and found some that I liked. One of them was a Jaxon Dead Man hat that had "Made In the USA" marked on the inside. It was a little out of my price range however and I kept looking. I found another bowler that I liked and asked if it was American Made, since I did not see the "Made in..." mark on the inside. The salesperson (not the owner) said yes. There was a slight hesitation in his voice however. Now, it could be that it was made in the US and just wasn't marked as such. Or it could be that the sales guy wasn't completely sure if it was or not and wanted to make a sale. So I went ahead and purchased it. Anyway, I just now looked the hat over thoroughly and found out it was made in (guess where?) China!! Go figure. Now, if I had known that it was made in China at the time, I might still have purchased it. It seems to be a good had. American made hats are expensive and hard to find so I might well have settled with it. But what I don't like is to be lied to, deliberately or not! Please, folks! Do me a favor and be honest about your product and people will appreciate you for that. And do another favor for American workers like me, and my family, and you and yours; try to buy and sell AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS! We will all benefit with high quality, decent jobs and money that stays close to home.

Sometimes I come in and shes in a good mood, other times shes extremely rude, no matter how many times ive been kind and respectful to her. Ive come to this place a lot for years since I was younger, and have found some great things and dont get me wrong she has some nice stuff but is just extremely rude and condescending. She also way overprices a lot of her clothing and labels them as "vintage" when some of them absolutely are not and are obviously from sweatshops/online stores, and then gets mad when you mention something about that or say anything about the pricing outloud. She overprices a lot of her records aswell. I dont understand places that make their items so expensive when they get them donated for FREE. its called second hand for a reason its for people who cant afford nice things for full price. she constantly rolls her eyes at all her customers and talks to us like we are stupid when we ask a question, and I notice her interacting with all of her customers like that.
