I was SO happy to have found Kena & Jeffrey (and their team)/Ditmas Paws. After the initial meet and greet I felt completely at ease and confident that they could check in daily on my cat. Kena did an excellent job of caring for my somewhat skittish kitty while I was on vacation. They are pet owners themselves and I felt completely comfortable leaving my cat in their care. In addition to litter box cleaning and checking the self-feeder and waterer, Kena emailed me daily updates along with a photo of my kitty. Their website states: "We treat your pets as part of our family," and it's true. They are kind, highly qualified, professional, responsible and love animals. What more could a pet owner want in a pet caregiver? Oh, and their daily rates are very reasonable. After the meet and greet, you can schedule everything on their new/redesigned website. We have been using this service for 3 years and have had a great experience with them up until Memorial day weekend 2016. We scheduled a visit with them for our cat on that Sunday. We received a call by the sitter assigned (Karina) saying she had lost our key and could not provide care to our cat. We immediately had the owner (Tiana) call us to resolve the issue. It could not be resolved. The service had no backup plan and put the responsibility on us to resolve the lockout even though it was their employee that lost the key. The fact that the sitter/walker (Karina) can be so negligent and still remain employed at this service prompts me to write this review. We have since found a separate service that employs a two key set system to prevent such mistakes. Fortunately it was only one day, I can't even imagine if this were to happen over a week long holiday. My constructive advise to this service would be to implement a two set key system to mitigate these mistakes.

Tiana came over to meet my pup and that took down all of her medical history, feeding schedule, and vet information. Tiana and the team are flexible, with a two hour window for booking/cancellation. They are always on time and I love getting updates from the walks or a card on my counter when I get home. I have a young puppy who is very small and I know they take amazing care of her. Tiana is highly professional and runs Paw Prints like a real business, which is very unlike dog walking in NYC. They are organized, email me invoices and always give me updates on how she is doing. Kenny came over to meet me before my mom left me in his care. He was very, very nice and spent a long time with my mom making sure that he understood everything I needed. He spent quite a while getting to know me, which made me feel a lot more comfortable when he came to visit me! He was fun when he came over, he gave me fresh water and food and made sure I had my toys:) And most importantly, he gave me lots of love and attention and turned on the A/C To cool down the apartment.. Jenny also sent pictures of me to my mom letting me know how happy and well cared for I was. So she didn't worry about me.. I know it was a big relief to her, getting Kenny's pictures of me knowing that I was safe and happy because she is always hesitant to leave me by myself, she doesn't like me to be lonely. I wanted to write today to tell you about my Uncle Kenny, who is more of a best friend, really. My mom and dad hired Uncle Kenny when one of my old friends (note: NOT a bestie) had to move away and couldn't stop by anymore. He came over one night to meet me, explain his ground rules, make sure my parents wouldn't be terrible clients, and check out if I'd be agreeable (I am very much a scamp) and fit into his availability. He was very straightforward about expectations on both sides and how seriously he takes the responsibility of my being in his care, and luckily for me, they hit it off right from the beginning. He's been the Milo to my Otis ever since. Uncle Kenny comes over every weekday (and sometimes feeds my kitty brothers if my parents take me on a trip), and we go hunting for food scraps outside, even though he never lets me have them. He makes sure I get my exercise, even if it's raining (and I HATE the rain), and that I've got plenty to drink and play with (and maybe a carrot? please?), and he's got a little book in which he tells my daily story. Because I'm interesting and I do stuff (#1 AND #2 sometimes). He also knows me so well that he's the first to let my parents know if I'm run down or if I poo funny, and that I might need to visit my favorite place (I love the vet!). Basically, he's got my back, and I have his. So while I hate to share him, Uncle Kenny is the way to go if you're looking for someone you can trust who will be reliable and actually care about your furry best friend child. He was going to be left home alone overnight unless I found someone to take him in. I posted in a local Facebook group in a panic, and Devin reached out almost immediately and welcomed my dog into their home. From the very beginning, they went above and beyond to put me at ease, proactively sharing their business information, reviews, ID, and certifications. They sent updates and photos throughout the night, and it was obvious my dog was being treated like one of their own. My dog came home happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. I feel incredibly lucky that Devin saw my post that night, and I wouldn't hesitate to trust them with my dog again. Highly recommend!

Entrusting Mr. Barkypants, my first-born son, to a dog walker is akin to how I imagine it might…read morefeel to someday entrust a less furry child of mine to a nanny: He/She sure as hell better be committed, conscientious, able to survive blizzards*, and love Mr. Barkypants as his/her own. Using this (perhaps slightly unreasonable) standard, I interviewed many, many dog walkers before I found Dean Gray of The Dog Train, a dog walking and training company that Dean and his business partner own and operate. Though I haven't yet had to put them to the blizzard test*, it is clear that Dean is an excellent dog walker and human being, more generally. Importantly to me, Dean and his business partner are the only dog walkers in their small company and they generally only walk one dog at once (or three dogs, together, at the most, who have had time to acclimate to one another). I feel strongly about not having just any random person walk Mr. Barkypants: I've witnessed how some walkers who work at larger operations treat (or rather mistreat) the 5-10 dogs they walk at once. Sadly, it doesn't seem uncommon for some dog walkers, on the Upper West Side at least, to roughly yank leashes or yell and scream at dogs, or to refuse to stop walking to allow one of their charges to use the little dog's room, or to tie dogs up to a post in the park while the walker enjoys a cigarette and long chat with his friends. I am confident that Dean does NOT do this; Mr. Barkypants would probably behave very differently with him than he does. Interestingly, though Mr. Barkypants isn't terribly fond of strangers and he is particularly non-fond of strangers who are male and who wear hats, he took to the hat-wearing Dean like he took to liver treats from the first or second walk on. Dean has a gentle, quiet, calm, non-domineering manner with dogs (and humans, really). He isn't embarrassed about speaking to dogs in goofy voices -- a talent I quite appreciate. Moreover, wrt his human dealings, too, Dean is prompt and as honest as Abe: He lets us know when he isn't able to walk a full hour (because of severe weather or sickness) and deducts from his pay despite our asking him to take the full amount. In truth, I do find Dean's business partner, Jessie, to be less conscientious. In contrast to Dean, who deducts whenever he does not walk the full hour -- even if it's due to circumstances beyond his control like extreme heat -- in our experience, Jessie consistently shaved time off of walks. I know this is not unusual for dog walkers in Manhattan, but it just highlighted for us the difference between a truly excellent walker and a more run of the mill one. In one instance, she also did not call us when she was unable to open the inner door of our home, until after the time for the walk had passed, claiming that she had called Dean for our number and that he didn't have it. (He does have it and texted it to her.) If she'd called when she'd arrived, we would've been able to arrange for her to get in the door. She insisted on charging us for the walk, anyway, because she had stopped by. Luckily, we have Dean almost all the time. Rates, by the way, are extremely reasonable for Manhattan dog walking, especially since Mr. Barkypants gets Dean all to himself on walks. According to their website, Dean is bonded and insured as a dog walker and is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Dean is also Animal Behavior College certified. I haven't hired Dean for dog training, since Mr. Barkypants is already perfect. ;) But I can speak with knowledge about Dean's excellent credentials as a dog walker. He *will* treat your dogs with respect and patience -- or at least I'm pretty sure they will based on how they've treated my first born son. I can't recommend him enough. ---------- *I've walked for an hour and a half through snowstorms while sleep deprived at midnight (uphill both ways, barefoot ;) to give my baby a good walk. Anyone who takes him out better give a shiznit -- or better, yet, two.

Ferdinand is a rescue dog, who was shy and scared of loud noises when we got him. He's now over 2 years old, a playful little dog, ready to walk (most of the time) and to have fun with other dogs. As much as I'd like to take credit for his progress, I think Phyllis have much more to do with it. Phyllis is a great dog walker. She never stopped working during the Pandemic, always mindful to tend to her pet friends while protecting herself and families. Making sure Ferdie had his daily walk with her was a life saver in the middle of homeschooling and remote working. Phyllis' love for animals is obvious. She helped us get Ferdie ready to walk with other dogs, always leaves detailed feedback if Ferdie is more anxious than usual. She also was a great support as we welcomed our third son back home last year, advising us on how to behave with Ferdie, and sharing some very helpful kid friendly videos for my two older kids so they learn to play safely with Ferdie. Ferdie is now very well adjusted to our family, and us to him. We feel very fortunate to have found Pooch and Kitty to help us transition from a family with two children and no pets, to a family of three children and a dog.

My story starts with trying to find a cat sitter as I was travelling more a few times a year (domestic and foreign - as far as New Zealand), and my new cat (Sweet Pea, a Manx breed shelter cat) needed a friendly face every day while away. I tried a couple of services, but had very unprofessional experiences that made my home feel unsafe. Had to change the locks on the 2nd one- so weird. So now, on to the good news. I found Pooch and Kitty. The owner, Phyllis Klein is caring and highly professional. The intro is professional, chill, and started with an opportunity for the potential sitter to meet you and your pet, so that both parties are comfortable, and gave me the moment to communicate any building rules. Great. I have felt so happy and safe with the 2 sitters I had over the years. Thank you Serra, and most importantly, thank you Bonnie. Bonnie gave great daily updates (as I traveled the most during her time). Her recent observation on his eating led me to immediately decide that maybe he needs a random vet check in addition to the regular. He ultimately had lymphoma and I lost him months later. But if not for her simple observations communicated in the daily updates, I would not have noticed as quickly (the lack of separation during quarantine made it harder to notice small changes). As a result, I had more time than I would have, while treating his illness. Sweet Pea had caring friends with Pooch and Kitty. And I have all Bonnie's hilarious video updates, sometimes with silly filters which I loved! This is a great service that I recommend. They are lovely, and should be part of your pet sitting needs.
