Asked for quote to demolish an inground vinyl liner pool. They appeared to know nothing about in ground vinyl pools. Said they would need to drill a hole in the bottom of the pool to drain the water, I told them they actually didn't because it was a soft bottom pool which the salesperson didn't seem familiar with. The water table is too high to drill a hole being close to the river and I can drain it with a trash pump and 100 feet of 3 in hose that I could take care of myself. Explained that I wanted the concrete deck around the pool also taken out and they said it can be used as fill material, which they also said they do frequently and it would be no problem. Talked about adding some gravel to the concrete fill and compacting everything every 18 inches or so to ensure things were stable and wouldn't settle later. Said they do this routinely as well. Also asked for 12 inches of top soil, which they said was no problem. Finally got the quote and it was actually wrong. It listed an entire pool's worth of clean fill material (over 100 cubic yards is needed) and 12,000 dollar charge with no breakdown showing reuse of the concrete decking as fill material, indicated disposal of pool equipment which I told them I would take out and sell on my own (I installed it), no breakdown in material costs for the remaining fill, no labor costs, and just general description of the actual work to be done and a line for me to pay the permit fees separately. I've had lots of contractors at my house and have never been asked to pay a separate fee for a permit, they've always included the permit fee in the job quotes. I contacted them and told them the quote was nothing like what we discussed and asked them to revise it based on the conversation that was held about concrete reuse, the amount of fill material, and the pool equipment. They said they would provide a new quote. New quote never showed up. I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but this was one of the worst contractor interactions I've ever been associated with for just simply getting a quote. Can't even begin to imagine how much oversight I would have to give them for the work to prevent errors if they can't even provide an accurate quote. I don't recommend them. read more

After they were quite eager "to get us on the calendar" and get the job going, halfway through the job without a heads up, they pulled the crew off our project for at least a week and it was evidently incumbent on me to find out what was going on. We've have been wanting to build raised planters and plant fruit trees in our way back yard for awhile now, we capped 28 sprinklers and let the lawn die a few years ago. The only thing was now the ground was not level and there were large dips and roots throughout the area. Recently we had a project that involved some excavation and grading of our side yard. We needed 270 square feet excavated down about 8 inches, and the other 500 square feet graded to 3 inches down. We had secured the services of a local excavator who turned out to be inconsistent and not reliable. We requested estimates from other companies and settled on BK Demolition. Flavio provides a competitive price, and was eager to start the project as soon as possible. This was definitely an advantage to us due to the issues with the original contractor. Flavio and his crew arrived on time and ready to work. Interestingly, one of his crew was his teenage daughter, and it was her first time on a job. Flavio originally budgeted for just over a day to complete the project, but was able to finish in one day. The excavation and grading were both done to spec. They kept the area clean, including sweeping the driveway and sidewalk throughout. All debris were removed and he kept in contact with me to make sure his work was meeting our objective. His crew worked hard, especially his daughter. She did a great job. As mentioned, the entire area was left clean. Our concrete contractor confirmed the excavation area was done correctly for his needs. My neighbor had just finished removing a small area of sod. We hired Flavio because we were looking for someone to haul away some concrete for us. It was our entire front walkway and a patch in another edge of the yard that I forgot to ask him about when we talked on the phone. He responded right away to my inquiry and asked me to send photos, which I did along with approximate measurements. He gave me a very fair bid and he was available the next day and we were thrilled to be able to get it done! When he showed up he was ready to get the job done! Very efficient in his set up and wasted no time getting his equipment ready to go. When I asked him about the other area of concrete I was thrilled that he said he would include it in the bid-I told him it was just a thin pour. Well let me tell you-that little area became the biggest part of the job-although I wouldn't know because this guy just gets the job done and didn't say a word about it being a pain, but it sure was thicker than I had thought! So he got all of the concrete broken up and loaded into his dumpster truck, cleaned and swept the area around where he had worked and that was it! I gave him some extra money for the work he did on the piece I had forgotten to ask him about and I know he didn't expect that but we were so grateful! Before he left we discussed him coming back to do some grading work on our front yard and he gave us all kinds of landscaping ideas and we find out that he had a landscape business in the Bay Area before coming up to this area. Good ideas too! So we'll have him come back sometime soon for that work. I absolutely recommend this business. He was very responsive and stuck with his initial quote, even though it appears we had more concrete than he anticipated. In fact, his team had to come back the next day to finish. His quote was competitive with others, about low to mid range which helped me rule out the highest bids. His demeanor was professional and customer centered and responsive by phone and texts. I would certainly recommend him. I tried to ask him to come back later to haul dirt, but he was onto a larger job. (I have since learned that dirt removal and concrete removal are different. We hired Flavio to do the finish grading in our back yard and trench for our french drain. Flavio is really friendly and easy to work with and his prices are very competitive. They only had only 7 feet of clearance in our side yard between the wall of our house and the neighbor's fence but were really careful with the bobcat not to run into either the house or the fence.
