My wife brought her car in here to get her brakes done. They called back and said it was gonna be $1400 to "fix" and replace my pads, rotors and brake calipers. Something tingles in my mind, so I bring it to my favorite Route 18 auto body in Abington ( after I get charged $75 to take it back.). $350, new pads and rotors only needed on 2 tires and they said the calipers don't need to be replaced, just cleaned. I think this place is trying to take advantage of the not poor town it's located in. Easily convinced my wife to never return. read more

I have mixed feelings about reviewing BJs. People seem to like going there, which is why I gave them two tries. My issue is that I got an estimate ($400-$600) for brakes (later he told me he meant "per axle" even though he didn't say that), and so I dropped off the car. I then got a call that he had 45 minutes of work into it and it would actually cost $1600. I said yes because his mention of the "45 minutes" made me foresee he was going to charge me a diagnostic fee if I didn't let him complete the work. When I went to pick it up, he said "That will be $1850." He explained that the parts cost more than his mechanical previously told him. He said he did an oil change (that I didn't ask for or want because I pre-paid for routine maintenance at the dealer). After I complained, he reluctantly deducted half the cost of the oil change. I protested because I already paid the dealer for that, and he then took off the rest of the oil change fee, but made me feel bad for asking. He then refused to accept his own $20 coupon because "you already got a deal." And said passively-aggressively: "I wish people knew that these cars are expensive to own." And "I wish people would call the dealer to see that they charge more." Yes, I know they charge more. That is why I came here. He acted like he was losing money, but the rotors, pads, and sensors all come to under $1000 for parts, so even if he stuck to his quote, he would be getting about $650 for labor. Now bad for about three hours of work. I left paying $1710 plus tax, which is $110 more than the quote he gave after taking the car apart and knowing exactly what it needed. So yeah, I feel like I am owed $110 plus tax before all is right in the universe. I am so glad I didn't send my wife in to pay, as she certainly would have just paid the bill without knowing it was wrong. read more

I am from Southern California where I never really had a favorite auto repair place. But I am so happy I found Bjs auto repair. The service, and hospitality is right up my alley. They genuinely care about their customers and are not just looking to make money off you. I am a young women on my own, and often get taken advantage of when going to get my car fixed. Because I have no idea what they're talking about! But that was not the case with Bjs. They communicated very well what all expenses would be. I am driving my car back to California tomorrow and had to bring it in for one last checkup before I leave! Sad that I won't be able to have a place like this back home. Our family has been using BJ's for at least 10 years. He has worked on several vehicles, especially our Toyota's. The atmosphere is pleasant and upbeat. They are busy, as any good shop should be. Appointments are easy to schedule in 1-3 days. The best thing about them is that they never do work that is not necessary, no pressure to upsell like many of the chain stores. We haven't had any problems with the work they have done. Any negatives? Well, you can get cheaper oil changes at some places with coupons. Their prices can sometimes be expensive, but their hourly rate is similar to other garages. I surely saved money by avoiding unnecessary work. read more

I ended up paying another mechanic over $500 to get my car "repaired." I took it to BJ's after my situation got worse and he fixed it for $47. Details: Took my car there to get an inspection sticker and get my ABS checked out. I was moving out of the city and need my car to commute on a daily basis. Another mechanic changed my back rotors and break pads and told me it was the sensor that was causing the light on my dash to go on. After using it to commute for about a week, the situation got worse and my breaks started seizing up. I took it to BJ's and it turned out a pump in a ABS system had blown. It would have cost thousands to fix so he just shut it off by taking out the fuses and shutting the system off, as a lot of older cars don't even have an Antilock Breaking System. He said he couldn't believe I was driving this car with this situation and he was able to fix the problem for a 1/2 hours worth of work (~$47), it took the other mechanic about 3 hours and $500 to "fix" my car. I would highly recommend BJ's as I was recommended to him by family have heard nothing but positive things. read more

My car died on Monday......had it towed to Bj's......had it fixed by Tuesday afternoon! The price on the fuel pump installation was not crazy high either. The waiting area was clean and had a nice selection of magazines and Toys (my son gave 5 stars to the toy selection). There was also a candy dish!
