We moved into the Courtyard at Bitterroot at the end of July 2017 and gave notice of our move out (20+ days early, per lease agreement) at the end of July 2020, 3 whole years later.
Toward the end of our 3 years management became lazy, seen around less, harder to get a hold of and many things were pushed to the wayside. Lease terms were no longer a priority and parking became a HUGE daily issue as many residents had more than 2 cars on premise (one resident often parkes his giant work trucks and semi near the premises as well, and at times asked other residence to move their vehicles for them to use spots they wanted), per the lease your garage is not to be used as a storage unit, nor is it to be used for working on car maintenance, both of which are frequently seen and never questioned. Vehicles were left in 'guest' parking spaces much longer than 48 hours and even with the orange paper notice, no further action was ever taken. Going to the designated smoking area is no longer a thing as its been witnessed and smelled wafting from patios spaces as well as coming from inside apartments and garages directly below us, with the knowledge of management! Quiet hours were often not enforced and because the only AC unit is located in the living room, bedroom windows needed to be left open on those hot summer nights leaving us to listen to loud conversations had by neighboring building residents and their loud tvs and radios at late night gatherings. Even though Covid-19, and my unexpected unemployment, we still made rent on time, and never once asked for any help or relief, we were responsible residents during our stay, kept to ourselves and never questioned when management asked for access to our garage or apartment to do 'random' checks. Management at Bitterroot is more interested in tip toeing around residents than upholding leasing terms, showing leadership and actually managing the property.
Now here's the really unfortunate part, and quite frankly the reason I wrote this, because this is the part where they only uphold the leasing agreement when it further pads their bank accounts. There is a clause in the lease that states you have to pay them an obscene amount of money if you break the lease early. I'll admit, we did that, but we were also residents for 3 FULL years before we moved out. We stayed until, for our own personal reason, we financially couldn't justify the high rent anymore. So, here we now find ourselves with a letter from them demanding that we pay for 7.5 hours of housekeeping that I'm 1000% sure was not needed without any details given, AND a $2000 early termination fee, even though we know, without a doubt, that our unit is already rented to someone new, and therefore they haven't lost out on any rent money. We tried contacting management at the Bitterroot property as well as the number provided to us for the Rockwood property collections, messages were left and guess what, no call back, from either of them to try and settle this matter! Here we are over 24 hours later and still, nothing from either one!
From reading past reviews of the management team, this seems to be the norm and it's sad that this is how they see doing business with prior long term residents! If we ever found ourselves back in the area, we will not rent at Bitterroot (or any property managed by Rockwood) and will not recommend it to others who move this way! read more
