Chali Tea Shop - Restaurant decor

Chali Tea Shop

Each time I come back, I try a drink from their floral snowy whipped cream drink series. I had the…read moreosmanthus fresh milk tea with 30% sugar and felt like the tea flavor can be stronger. I forgot it comes with tapioca and felt like the sweetness of the boba overpowered the tea flavor in the drink a bit. There's always a lot of seating available at this location and the service is quick. Got my drink shortly after I ordered!

Coming from LA, I'd been looking for a boba place to satisfy my cravings so I was super excited to…read moretry Chali! My boyfriend and I came here on a Tuesday afternoon and were able to find street parking easily. The decor of the shop is cute, and ordering at the kiosk was simple; they have a pretty extensive menu so, whatever type of drink you're looking for, they probably have it! We got the coconut matcha and a mango matcha milk, both of which came out pretty quickly. I was unfortunately a little disappointed with the color of the matcha when our drinks came out; it was a very pale green, and didn't taste like they used high quality matcha powder to make our drinks. My boyfriend was also disappointed by the coconut matcha, which didn't taste as good as he expected. I thought my mango matcha, on the other hand, was delicious! The mango flavor was strong and sweet, but not overly so, and I enjoyed my drink! Overall, we'd definitely come back, but probably try different drinks since it seems like this shop doesn't specialize in matcha.

When we got there a couple groups were waiting for their orders. We then placed the order and thought we'd get our order at a reasonable time. Then one after another left and lo and behold came others who got their drink orders before us while we continued to wait. No explanation until my husband reacted to the long wait. There were only 2 working and one was training the other. I sure hope this won't happen again. Do we need to start ordering ahead online? It's never been like this. We've been coming since Lu Cha opened. Anyway, we want to understand and appreciate all the efforts being made. However, make sure you do have enough workers especially during the holidays. We would have appreciated if they had warned us we'd have to wait a certain amount of time. We may just not have chosen not to order. By the time she got it all made, we just want to leave ASAP. She offered us a free pastry, but no one was even in the mood to wait some more to get a free pastry. Then some of the drinks turned out way too sweet when we asked for 50 percent sweetened. Anyway, hard to come back after this experience. But would possibly like to give this business another chance.

As we were driving through Cleveland, we decided to stop and get a drink. Oolong Milk Tea, Large, 50% Sweet, Less Ice w/ Boba ($6.60) - The tea was way oversteeped, resulting in a very roasted, almost burnt taste. I asked for half sweet, but the sweetness level came out at around quarter sweet if compared to other boba shops. The boba was not good - I could tell it was honey soaked, but it was not cooked nearly enough. Quite hard and not a great texture. What happened to this Kung Fu Tea location? It used to be so good and now it's very mediocre. Then again, this might be a company-wide issue with Kung Fu Tea. Since the pandemic, I've been to multiple locations and I have not been impressed with any of them. I definitely do not recommend this place. I might have to swear off trying other KFT locations too given that it seems like their tea and boba is consistently disappointing.

This location in particular makes solid bubble tea, though my biggest gripe is that the wait time is always very long. Even when I order ahead, I feel like I end up waiting there for 15+ minutes just to get bubble tea. My go to bubble teas here are the winter melon milk tea, the oolong milk tea, as well as a variety of the fruit teas.
