Friendly and relaxed staff pump out coffees to the commuters and then keep the coffee flowing throughout the day. The service was fast and the coffee was delicious - they didn't bat an eye at strange orders such as quarter strength skim lattes and made a great soy fw. There were a few treats to try including the in vogue cruffin which was a sweet treat to help us through our afternoon. Well worth dropping in to grab a takeaway if you are traveling through the Hornsby train station.

None of that awful aloofness that typifies so many hipster-esque joints. They sell beautiful muffins and even Bircher muesli, but they do sell out. Sitting in the lounge chairs or the court yard is inviting. What I don't really like is the vintage (or should I write "vintage") stuff. There's quite a bit of that around. In fact there are so many vintage items, you could be forgiven to think that you've stepped into a second hand shop. The mix of vintage fashion and café is pleasing to a degree but what bothers me a bit is that there are so many hipster cafés around doing this that this mix seems worn or at least overused. In fact everything he bakes is scrumptious - so much so that I often have to stride purposefully past in case I get lured inside by the promise of a cupcake or one of those mouthwatering macaroons. My only wish for this cafe is a makeover! I would love to see the place redesigned to make MUCH better use of the space and create a pleasant place to actually sit in and enjoy your coffee and cake. It's a crying shame, considering all the competition for cafes in the area, that Bertrand's just doesn't cut it in this regard.
