My insurance declined the payment at the time, and Dr. James kindly gave me a discount to help me out. That left such a good impression on me that I continued coming back afterward. Even when I previously had an allergic reaction to medication prescribed here, I chose not to complain because I trusted this clinic. So when my lips suddenly became swollen this time, this clinic was still the first place I came to. Unfortunately, this experience felt completely different. The front desk staff simply kept repeating that I had to pay $150 and made no effort to communicate my situation to Dr. James. Ironically, when I explained my insurance situation to the doctor directly, he did try to check for me. After my surgery, I still had questions about the procedure itself and wanted to briefly speak with the doctor again, but the front desk just told me there would be post-care later. I understand doctors are busy, and I was completely willing to wait. I had just undergone a small surgery, asking to briefly speak with my doctor should not feel like asking for a special privilege. Her tone makes me feel like I need her approval and she is the security to guard the doctor. All of these was not an issue when I was in the DTLA location, the doctor always follow-up a little bit when I check out and both the cashier and front desk are friendly. Costa Mesa and DTLA locations gave me completely different experiences. After being a customer for years, what disappointed me most was that the attitude only became nicer after I expressed how upset I was. Why I should even have to argue with her when my lip is still numb? If the front desk staff's role is mainly financial and they do not have basic people skills, then they should not be in a front desk position at a medical clinic. A professional front desk staff member should at least show some level of care and empathy toward patients, especially patients who just underwent a small surgery and are already stressed or uncomfortable.

This was my second appointment with her, and like the first one, it was very rushed. I do not feel there was much thought given to my skin type, how my skin might react, or whether this was the best method to use cosmetically. The whole experience felt very cursory, with little attention paid to the aesthetic outcome. I'm upset with myself for not stopping her, but it all happened so fast and I trusted her judgment so beware. I' spoke to one patient who told me the Dr took a biopsy but gave no warning of how painful it would be or that she would need stitches. I tried urgent care first & they referred me to the Derm Studio. I called & made my first appointment, they are super busy & basically had to wait a month to be seen. I'm cool with waiting if its actually worth the wait. I had no idea this is a plastic surgery office. The first day I came in, there really wasn't a warm welcome or greeting from the front desk girls. I just got this vibe that was stuck up snooty, even though nothing of the like was ever said out loud. It seems to me if you're not there for plastic surgery then you're waste of time patient, that's how I felt. I was also disappointed that I never got to meet Dr. Forman herself, but instead dealt with this a physician assistant lol. She was nice but I would of liked to have an actual doctor instead. When I asked questions, I felt like the answers were generic or just glazed over & not explained thoroughly. I did end up getting prescription creams which did help the issue but if I were to see a dermatologist again I would seek help elsewhere. The other treatment I got here was for a tiny growth on my face. It was removed & I was told when the results are in, there would be a call from the office.
