A great place to have a nice meal and a glass of wine in Gengenbach. We sat outside in the patio and enjoyed a nice German style meal of huge ravioli and a schnitzel with fries. The sauces used in both dishes were very good and made me want to make sure I didn't leave any behind. Great little restaurant in Gengenbach! The outside courtyard is a very nice place to sit when the weather is warm. We tried their "Salatplatte Marché" which was one of the best salads I've ever eaten in my life. It came with lots of fresh lettuce, various pickled veggies, a boiled egg, and an amazing yogurt dressing. We also shared a leberknödelsuppe which was pretty good as well. As for the main courses, I'd recommend the "Gemüseteller Pastorale" which offers a large plate of delicious fresh cooked veggies if you're trying to be healthy, and the "Holzhackerbrett" if you want to sample various meats. In addition, the seasonal "frische Pfifferlingrahmsauce" was also good with delicious mushrooms and spätzle. Overall, great food at very reasonable prices. Definitely try their salads! read more

My husband and I were visiting the Black Forest and are staying in an Air B&B and decided to try this place out tonight. There's a good chance we may continue to come here for dinner each night we have left here! We arrived around 1830 (it's a Monday) and were able to sit instantly. Within minutes our waitress arrived. I'm ashamed to say that we have lived in Germany for two years, but still can't speak enough to get by (I know. I'm working on it!) but our charming waitress happened to speak fluent English! She let us know that they did have English menus available, but we chose to be adventurous and choose our dinners at random! We chose a regional beer, which happened to be a pils. Slightly unfortunate as we are not pils fans and prefer weizen beers, however this one had us pleasantly surprised! I decided to try a Röschti for the first time! I selected the one with mushrooms and hollandaise sauce. Whelp, pretty sure I know have a new favorite food. Basically it's a thick layer of crunchy hash browns topped with sliced ham and mushrooms and drizzled in hollandaise sauce. As a typical American, these are all things I like. My husband selected the Hollzhackerbrett which was a large patty of minced meat served with a pork steak and gorgeous salad. The portion was huge and he was very impressed with the flavor. Total for both extremely filling and delicious entrees, plus two beers was €23. I believe we will be regulars this week! read more
