They politely told me in broken english that was not possible so I knew we would be in for an authentic german meal at suppertime. Our party of 9 had a fabulous time. The beer was great, the food was great, the service was great. The band played what I think was german punk during Octoberfest. None of the staff spoke fluent english but that was not a problem. There were a couple of dogs (golden or lab retrievers) roaming around that were just part of the restaurant.. I don't think they get alot of americans so the owner (I think) came over to visit a while. We probably spend 4 hours dining and beer drinking. I absolutely plan on visiting again next time I go to Octoberfest.

I went to this place twice when I was in Munich and had a great time each visit. The food and beer were good, but the people were great. The bartenders were engaging and hilarious. Especially when they encourage you to drink more and have a good time. The service was very prompt and friendly. All I had to do to get a beer was make eye contact with the bartender and he'll give me a wink. 30 seconds later he was placing two tall, cold glasses of Franziskaner at our table. Now that's what I call service. The currywursts and rolls were delicious and hot. In addition, the atmosphere was very unique at this bar. People from all walks of life came through this place. At one point there were more Americans in the bar than Germans. Maybe because they had a live feed to the NFL playoff game. They might have been attracted to the interior that was peppered with sports and movie memorabilia. It was an odd juxtaposition that worked very well with the vibe of the place. All that was missing on the wall was an alligator with sunglasses (Simpsons reference). I highly recommend this establishment if you happen to be around the Munich Hauptbahnof. You'll have fun drinking and observing the other patrons. Sehr gut!

The drinks make the bar, though, and for cocktails, they absolutely perfect them. The menu is massive, offering cocktails in many varieties, with dozens of different base liquors. The apotheke, which features punt e mes, fernet, and creme de menthe is one of the best cocktails I have ever tried, and it cooled my mouth and throat with every sip. Other standouts include the american negroni (with bourbon instead of gin), and the bahia, an island inspired drink made with rum, pineapple, and coconut. It tasted like an adult milkshake done right, a true delight. We enjoyed the place so much we came twice in just four days. Bonus points for giving free tap water. Extra bonus points for the small side dishes of pretzels and olives that cone free alongside your drinks. An unprecedented triple bonus points for exceptional service during both visits. Prost!

But it seemed like most tables were pre-gaming for a night out and only drinking. They have an all-the-time happy hour drink special for €5 drinks and I'm guessing the shots are pretty cheap because tables were doing lots of rounds. Schnitzel mit Pommes: Saw the 9,90€ sign and decided to give it a try. Pretty tasty. Obviously not the best schnitzel in town, but good for the price. Lots of hearty pork with a nice crispy breading. And tons of fries. Filled me up after a long flight from California. Flammkuchen: Had fond memories of flammkuchen in Zurich, so decided to give it a try here. Same signature crispy cracker-like crust. So a lot lighter than typical pizza dough. But very rich toppings since both the cream and the bacon had a lot of flavor and a lot of richness. Might be better to share this as a snack rather than have it as an individual meal though. Schweizer Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln: Like the plain schnitzel I had earlier, but with swiss cheese melted on top and some mushrooms on top too. I was kinda thinking this would be the type of Swiss schnitzel that had the cheese on the inside, so I was a little surprised. But regardless, the cheese still worked well to give the breaded cutlet a lot more personality. Creamy Queen: Wasn't feeling another alcoholic drink after all the Oktoberfest revelry, so went to the deent sized alcohol free section of the menu. This one was recommended by the waiter and I appreciate his recommendation. Creamy coconut against fruit juices, with a lot of nice citrus in there. It wasn't quite a piña colada, definitely it's own creation.
