Etes-vous un amoureux de la cuisine française? (Are you a lover of French cuisine?) Then look no…read morefurther than A La Bouffe. The staff at this tremendous French Bistro have managed to really capture the essence of French dining and cooking and made it all available to patrons on Toorak Road. Upon walking through the doors of A La Bouffe you are greeted by a large marble bar downstairs and private more intimate seating upstairs. The whole venue is very elegant and light making for a classy and relaxing atmosphere. I came to A La Bouffe for dinner and was thoroughly impressed; I ordered the Salade De Saumon Fume as entree. This was Smoked Salmon Salad with a Citrus and Dill dressing; very light, fragrant and not to mention tasty. For my main I decided on the Coq Au Vin - Boneless chicken marinated red wine, mushroom and bacon sauce with mash potatoes on the side. Terrific! Washed it all down with a very smooth glass of Shiraz, needless to say I slept like a baby after this meal. A La Bouffe is a perfect French dining experience right in the heart of South Yarra, perfect for lunch or dinner or even a cheeky glass of vins rouge.

There's also parking at the Como across the street, which is pretty handy. Walking in, you can't help but feel drawn into this relaxing and intimate atmosphere. It's perfect for a date (well a very expensive date!) or to enjoy a beautiful dinner service with close friends. I loved it from the moment I walked past the front door. The bar is also a nice touch and it gives you the option of grabbing a seat and having a drink while waiting for your table if it's busy. The staff are amazing, the ones who looked after us were all French which contributed to the whole experience. They are really nice, welcoming and took time in running us through the menu as well as the wine list. Seriously, everything on the menu looks good. We had the escargot and terrine for entree and they were really nice. For the main, we went with the lobster ravioli et crevette and the coq au vin - wow! Just wow! We were quite full after that but, credit to us, we soldiered on and had the mousse au chocolat and creme brulee a la lavende - Oh mon dieu...... C'etait pas croyable! It was as orgasmic as you'd get..... We had such a great time and were the last ones to leave I think but they never pressured us to go and were very accomodating all the way. This place is a must-try! I will definitely return and I can't wait to go back. Make sure you book first - great places like this fill up pretty quickly.

It's…read morevery unassuming from the outside, but inside it's lovely; divided into two sections that consist of a more modern looking first area, and then towards the back (the restaurant is deep) it looks a little more casual, but still nice. They pack people in, and it gets loud, but it's all good. The only other thing that might have made it feel more French yet, was the music. I imagined the French cafe type accordion music, but anyhoo ... The service was good. The staff are friendly. They run a very tight ship but got everything right. For starters, I ordered a beautifully fresh and delicious dill cured salmon that came with creme fraiche and toasts. It was so good. For dinner, I couldn't look past the Duck à l'orange. Another incredible choice. Many mains, come with pomme frites, so you think not to order anything else. The only negative, was that there are so few per meal. For mine, that had a lot of jus, it NEEDED something like a full serve of pomme frites, or else I would have ordered some other kind of side. However, it was delicious. Lastly, I ordered the Rum Baba which should have been delicious, and probably was, except there was way too much rum poured over it for my liking. It was fresh and had potential, and when I eat there next time and maybe order dessert again, I'd ask for no rum, to be honest. Overall, the experience here was great. We all enjoyed our dinners and again, the service was very good. Yes, it's a little pricey, but this was an occasion, so it was worth it. Parking could be a bit of a problem, so make sure to leave with enough time to search for a spot, but I would absolutely come back here again for sure sometime hopefully very, very soon!

The first time I ventured in was to indulge in what is likely the happiest of Happy Hours - $2 oysters and $12 glasses of Mumm champagne - that is ACTUAL champagne, people. I refer to this kind of treat as Choysters and I guarantee you, you'll feel like a French royal by the time you finish that second glass. My next trip was for dinner. I was so excited to try their famous Steak Frites - Grilled Hopkins River Porterhouse, with salad and BOTTOMLESS FRIES. Can you feel my excitement as you read?! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection and the salad gave much needed greenery to the dish. This is such a fun destination if you've had a GREAT day at work and want to celebrate or are celebrating an anniversary of birthday but don't want anything too over the top.

Entrecôte is what I imagine heaven is like. It's fun, decadent, doesn't take itself too seriously, and has enough options to keep each day a little different, but not so many that you need to waste precious time making decisions. This isn't complex food, it's not food that requires discussions on how it was made or where the ingredients are from. Nope, it's delicious classic food that lets you get on with what's most important - enjoying the company of your friends. You'll eat and drink way more than you intended, but by golly will you have a fun night.

When my husband said "Merci" to our server, she quickly asked, "Vous parlez le francais?" We were there for breakfast and luckily there was one almond croissant left when I placed my order. If they were all sold out, I would have been heart broken. Almond croissants are my favorite and I tend to like to judge a place by its almond croissants (and macarons). The croissant was not the flaky and airy type but instead was a little more dense with a generous amount of almond paste filling. There might even be a hint of almond liqueur in it. Although I'm used to airy croissants, I must say that I really like French Fantasies' interpretation of almond croissant. My husband had the minced pie which he really liked as well especially the pastry crust. Step in here for a nice breakfast and then head out for some fun shopping on Toorak Rd and Chapel St.

Truly, though, we feel lucky that French Fantasies is a short walk from home. It's the most authentic French bakery in the area, bolstered by its native French speaking staff and commitment to the excessive butter required for this type of blissed-out baking. We come here for classics like croissants and savory crepes (the spinach and bechamel is simple and gorgeous). And for that, plus a nice cup of coffee, it's perfection.

I love French food and I felt like I could have easily been in a French restaurant in the middle of Paris somewhere. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and great decor, and the food was lovely to boot. The service was a little average; nothing special, but ok. It was a bit slow to come out, but when it did, it was worth it. I had their Duck à l'orange which was beautiful and tasty. Portion sizes were good and I think it's worth their pricing. For dessert I chose the chocolate soufflé which was delicious and would definitely have again. They mixed my sister's dessert up, because I just don't think our waiter was listening, but she kind of liked what she got, which was lucky as we didn't want to wait for the right order to come. The one big negative I have, though, is this ... If you come here, they bring bread out to your table like they do in many other restaurants around Melbourne and around anywhere. HOWEVER ... they don't tell you that they're going to charge you for this. It's only $4, but it's the principle. I was outraged. Yes, I can afford $4, but either tell me that's what it is, or something. But don't deceivingly put something down on our table - that's complimentary almost anywhere else you go - and then charge for it. It's rude. Having said all of that ... I would love to come back again one time in winter maybe. I imagine it has a more cozy vibe then, and there's still a few other dishes that looked and smelled nice.
