Southport, being a traditional sleepy seaside town most of the year, is not the sort of place you'd associate with Mediterranean food and tapas, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled across Bistro Bar Med on Coronation Walk.
Sat amongst various kebab shops and local bars, Bistro Bar Med is a lovely little restaurant that offers a range of delicious tapas dishes in a cosy and casual dining environment.
Their menu isn't quite as impressive as other tapas bars near the area in Liverpool and Crosby, but the selection on offer is still pretty good, and it's the only place I know of in Southport that offers this kind of dining experience. They offer both Spanish and Turkish tapas on their menu, giving the usual tapas menu an interesting twist. This means you can enjoy Spanish meatballs and chorizo alongside dishes of melted halloumi and vine leaves, giving you plenty of variety all in one meal.
I've always thought of Southport as somewhat dated and stuck in the past, but I guess with tapas bars and sushi restaurants opening up maybe I should rethink this.
A nice place to go if you fancy something different from the usual Italian, Chinese or Indian cuisine on offer locally. read more
